How To Choose Skis

Спорт

How wide should your skis be?
How long should your skis be?
What does a ski’s construction mean for you?
Gearhead Hannah is here to answer all your questions and help you pick the perfect pair of skis. We’ll cover which ski length to pick based on skill level and how wide or narrow you’ll want-this involves snow conditions you’re likely to encounter when skiing, and where on the mountain you plan to ski.
We also go over common ski profiles and how much rocker or camber you want in a ski. Hannah discusses the most popular core materials-maple, balsa, bamboo, poplar, and aspen-and the most popular laminate materials-titanal, fiberglass, and carbon fiber-and what they mean for a ski’s performance and handling.
And to top off the cherry on your mountain of new ski knowledge, we’ll let you know where it’s best to mount those bindings.
Happy skiing!

One key factor if you’re buying one ski to do all your skiing is to think what the most frequent conditions will be most of the days you use that ski. We see skiers who ski in typical New England fast, firm and frozen conditions on groomed trails asking for a 100 mm waisted ski as their one ski quiver. Actually something in the mid 80’s would probably be a better choice. The Brahma 88 or Kendo 88 are my daily drivers in NE. Out in Utah where they actually get frequent snow you can’t go wrong with the 90+ to 100 mm waist range. The Enforcer 100 or Rustler 9 have been two of my Utah favorites.

I am trying to choose skis but I am completely disappointed. Seems like better to avoid skiing...
