How to Change Your Oil and Filter: 2007 Mazda 6

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today ill show you how to change your oil and oil filter (cartridge style) on a 2007 mazda 6. I was informed the cartridge size was 76mm/14 flutes/size B, due the cap being stripped it didn't fit so the best idea was to try filter pliers which didn't work so just use your hands least case scenario.

Important Note: Apply clean oil to the new O-rings prior to re-fitting. This helps to prevent binding & deterioration of both the pan plug and filter drain plug. You'll find it's easier for removal at next oil change. The filter drain plug can be fitted to the filter cover, while off the car. Then fit the filter cover (with drain plug) as a single unit.

I own this car. To make life simpler: 1 keep the plastic off the car. It will not hurt the car in any way to do so. I have had mine off for 10 years. 2 buy those filter in bulk on line around $3 each in bulk. 3 use a rubber glove to tighten the filter holder. No need for a tool. The O-ring will seal sufficiently. 4 use 0--20 or 5--20W synthetic oil and the engine will last a long time.

I recently just took my car to the mechanic to fix problem. Poor shoddy work and the worse of all was that they forgot to put the under carriage splash guard back up. Two weeks later ... while checking the work on car I realised the splash guard was missing. I immediately drove back to the mechanic shop to tell them my splash guard was missing.... after some mean words. they let me go at the back in the work area and lord and behold... there was my splash guard sitting on top of tyres being used as a tray by other mechanics to put their work tools on top ... needless to say ... I am not going back there ...

If your filter cap is that bad a shape, you should replace it. $15 at Autozone could save your engine. They have been known to blow apart under pressure when they have been mishandled with the wrong tools, like what's shown here.

+James Stokes I agree with you... Unfortunatetly a guy in a truck ran a red light and hit the mazda and it was totaled. I believe these mazdas won't run/start if oil pressure it too low.

TORQUE SPECS FROM MAZDA ... 9 lbf for the filter cover drain plug and 22 to 25.8 lbf for the plastic oil filter cover ...I BOUGHT ONE NEW IN 2008 ... the specs are identical to for all the 2.3 IL4 .... you do not know what you are talking about and nobody should take you for an example .

OMG you MUST tighten the drain plug WITH A WRENCH...not just by hand. Engines vibrate a lot and a hand-tightened fastener will work itself loose within a few hundred miles. Tighten your drain plug with a wrench!!! And do a HOT oil change...hot oil flows better so that you get as much as possible out of the engine. I can't believe you put a stripped filter housing back on the car...so much about this video is wrong, a lot of it is just plain dangerous to the health of your vehicle.

Please please please people, do NOT follow this tutorial. So many bits of information has been left out. For instance, the torque setting for the tightening of the sump bolt etc. Nothing worse than a blown motor because the sump bolt unscrewed its self because, and like the other bolts were "nice and snug up". I cringed all the way through this clip.

Torque setting aren't that important when you've done multiple oil changes and know how hard you have to pull. Its usually 36ftlb anyway but you can always overtighten it without much harm. His only 2 mistakes were not filming the tightening of the drain plug and not oiling the o-rings.
