How to CHANGE the OIL on 2019-2021 Yamaha YZF-R3

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Changing out the oil on your 2019-2021 Yamaha R3 is pretty straightforward and much easier than the previous gen models as you do not have to remove any fairings! You only need a few tools and parts.
Things Needs:
Yamalube 10w-40 - www.partzilla.com/product/yam...
^OEM Part LUB-10W40-AP-04^
Yamaha Oil Filter - www.partzilla.com/product/yam...
^OEM Part 5GH-13440-60-00^
Yamaha Oil Drain Bolt Crush Washer - www.partzilla.com/product/yam...
^OEM Part 214-11198-01-00^
Torque Wrench: amzn.to/38fLP38
12mm Socket
Oil Filter Wrench - www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/b...
Oil Drain Pan - amzn.to/2KgRnlT
Oil Funnel - amzn.to/3aqeLIu
Shop Towels - amzn.to/3aBuzZ1
Torque Specs:
Oil Drain Bolt - 20Nm (14ft-lbs) - I would set your torque wrench to slightly less to avoid stripping
Oil Filter - 17 Nm (12 ft-lbs)
Oil Drain Bolt Size - M12 x 1.5 x 15mm
Recommended Oil Drain Bolt Replacement - bit.ly/3mTwDz3
Engine oil quantity/capacity:
Without oil filter cartridge replacement:1.80 L (1.90 US qt, 1.58 Imp.qt)
With oil filter cartridge replacement:2.10 L (2.22 US qt, 1.85 Imp.qt)

    Awesome video, brother. I usually run the engine before to warm up the oil, so that it all comes out. I've had issue with bikes and holding onto oil and not having a level to tell me where it's at, causing over filling. Anyway, this is thorough as hell, thank you.

    I had to rewatch this since I’m bout a do mine first engine break in oil change. But u don’t need to warm up the bike. U just have to open the oil cap so gravity take it out. And warming it up u just putting the dirty oil back on top of engine block. As a master mechanic that how I change my cars and especially bike.

    You will definitely need an oil filter wrench if it's your 600mi oil change. Yamaha practically welds it to the engine from the factory.

    I think the Womet-Tech ones are pretty solid for the price. You do have to cut the fairings though so unless you have the proper tools, it may not look very clean. Getting a 150 wide on the back is one of my next changes, not a fan of how skinny the rear tire is.

    Nice video! Gonna save a lot if money this way. I do have a question I am a new rider my R3 is my first bike and I was just out on a ride today and the oil light came on. It has about 650 miles on it so far I am doing the oil change this week. Only concern I have is even when I’m leaving the engine running I even took the bike to the right a little bit but I do not see any oil on the indicator at the lower part of the engine even when tilting the bike while the bike is running. Shouldn’t I see something inside the The window? Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • @moto.obsession

    @moto.obsession

    Yes you should see oil in the window. If you don’t, I wouldn’t ride it until you fill up the oil and diagnose the problem if there is one.

    Thanks for the video. I was shown (on cars) to remove the bolt first then do the filter after most of the oil had drained. Any reason why you've done it the other way around? Also - what bike stand do you have? Thanks

  • @moto.obsession

    @moto.obsession

    No particular reason, it really shouldn’t matter too much but since the drain bolt is usually lower on the motor, I like to remove it last.

  • @moto.obsession

    Some people like to get their maintenance done at the dealer but an oil change is pretty straightforward and the R3 isn’t a premium bike needing special attention for maintenance. The more you know how to work on your own bike the better especially if you plan on doing track days down the road.
