How To Ride A YAMAHA R3 (For Beginners)
So, you want to know how to ride a Yamaha r3 motorcycle? You’ve come to the right place! I explain the basic principles on learning to how to ride a motorcycle. In my options there’s 3 major steps
1. Clutch
2. Up/down shifting
3. Steering/counter steering
Once you get these 3 the process becomes way easier! Remember to find the friction zone when practicing the Clutch. Shift around 4000-6000 RPMS when first starting, and always look where you wanna go!

Random, no matter what... I always hold the clutch in when I start a bike. Just in case something is in gear, or you randomly twist the throttle or something, that clutch pulled in will stop all of that in its tracks.

Can i keep holding the clutch while gasing and shifting gears?
@TopshelfJunior
Жыл бұрын
@@Chris-oh4rl Yea. You can. Holding the clutch allows you to switch gears. Holding the clutch also cuts off all power to the gas / throttle. So the clutch is there to assist / help you. You could hold the clutch in, and the bike will go nowhere. It’s “almost” like a brake. So to speak.

R3's are very forgiving bikes, which makes it super easy to learn clutch/friction zones. I started on a Grom and it was less forgiving on the clutch. I would stall it so easily. With the R3 I never had issues. It was such a breeze to grasp. I still have my 2020 R3 and love it!

Great video bro, i remember back when i first started riding geared bikes and i spent a whole day in an empty carpark near my house practicing clutch control just like this. Anyone watchint this can rest easy knowing its great advice and gets you very comfortable with the bike.
I know this video is pretty old but I appreciate the “how to” I’m planning on hopefully getting this bike in a couple years as my first
Bro I just got my R3 today and I’ve had it stall on me a couple of time but the way u made this vid was on how to get out of first (1) gear, dope good job man thanks
This is like my older brother teaching me how to ride. I appreciate it bro💯
Good staring vid! I’m a smaller dude in my late 40s and bought me a 2021 R3. Such a good starting bike. Light weight bike you don’t have to worry about just dumping on its side when you make a mistake. Loose gravel at a stop can get you when your foot slips out. Painted lines is something to watch for they are slick. Once you get comfortable with your R3 you won’t regret it.
just got a 2018 r3 with full akrapovic exhaust + tune (it sounds incredible, i cant believe its only a 300). im completely new to motorcycles but always wanted one for as long as i can remember, i have 2 manual cars (02 wrx 99 tacoma) so thankfully i have some manual trans experience. 1st practice session tomorrow🙏🏼
I’m getting a Yamaha r3 in matte black soon! Thanks for posting these bro!

Very informative video. R3 looks so good. Thinking about pulling the trigger on one👍🏽

Started on the street in 1985, yes, that long ago on the then brandy new Kawasaki 600r Ninja which still resides with me. Just could never part with it. All the years between you name it I rode it. Now I think I want to add one of these to the stable, would definitely be a good choice.
You just helped me be more comfortable about wanting a bike. I want this same one. Thank you 😌

It's pretty much identical to shifting on a car aside the the neutral gear being in between 1st and 2nd gear. If you have a buddy with a dirt bike or a Grom you can learn how to do it on that first before you learn on a R3

yep, great bike to learn on! Thanks to Dillion I settled on buying R3 as my first bike and let me tell you I wouldnt buy anything else as a starter sport bike. It was kind of hard adjusting to R3 after learning on MT-07 as turning on a sport bike is harder than a naked bike but when you get used to it, its a great learners bike. dash has everything you might need, has ABS, really lightweight and short bike. Engine is not that powerful so its good for you to learn on, first and second gear is really short so you have to constantly switch gears when you are commuting, again great for practicing gears. Bike comes alive after 4k rpm, even tho it looks aggressive the bike is really not aggressive. Its a little expensive for a 300cc and its tempting to add a little more money and go for bigger naked bikes but you wont learn to ride comfortable on a higher cc bike as a beginner. I am struggling to go fast because bike doesnt allow you even though I am full throttling it but its a good thing because I get to use the bike to its full potential comfortably knowing it wont launch like a rocket ship and lose control. The more you use it the more comfortable you get, you get used to higher speeds as you get more experience.

I was thinking about getting the Kawasaki ninja 400, but I think I’m convinced to get the r3, Ty for this video
@HeldIntegral
6 ай бұрын
Couple things to consider. 400 is faster (more fun) 400 is heavier (less danger in the wind) 400 has positive neutral finder (neutral is 1 click up if you're stationary)
Throttle-less starts should only be used to learn where the friction zone of the clutch is, in confined spaces. Once you get the feel for it, give it a little bit of throttle before releasing the clutch. That way you can release the clutch MUCH faster, and avoid being in the way of people behind you. And there is much less chance of stalling the engine. The R3 doesn't have a ton of torque either, so it will stall easier than a bike with a bigger engine. Once you get the hang of the friction zone, start releasing the clutch simultaniously with revving the engine. It quickly becomes pure muscle memory. If you do throttle-less starts at an intersection with people behind you, they *WILL* start honking at you! My experience in the matter comes from riding 250cc bikes, like the single-cyliner Honda CB 250 RS and twin cylinder Suzuki GSX 250 ES. Well, and the Suzuki GSX-R 250, but that one is in a category of it's own. It's a JDM 4-cylinder 249cc with 48 hp and a redline at 17K. It only began pulling cleanly above 6K (5K would fry the spark plugs), and needed 10K to start feeling like a proper motorcycle. And no matter how slow you were going, it would sound like you were speeding. At 80 km/h (50 mph) it would be at 7K in 6th gear. :) And you couldn't adjust the idle by using the rev counter. Idle was 1600, but the counter only began at 3K. XD
Great video!

Neutral - check the bike is neutral before starting. Always. Otherwise the bike can just drive off. Often there a Green N light on the dash clocks area. If no light then tap down all the way on the gearshift to get to 1st gear, then a half tap upwards to get into neutral. Hold the clutch lever fully back to the bar, within reason, when changing gear. What is a clutch? The clutch is the divider between the engine and gearbox/rear wheel. It's like 2 CD discs that are hard sprung together, and when you pull the lever it pulls them apart. 1 CD is stuck to the engine, the other CD is attached to the gearbox shaft, which drives the chain to the rear wheel. When you steadily and controllably release the clutch lever the two discs spring together tightly so they move together. Then as you rev the engine it's CD will be pressed tightly to the gearbox CD and it will force the gearbox to spin which will spin the chain to the back wheel. You might have heard of the phrase clutch plates, that's the clutch plates just like dinner plates or CD discs. They are literally a couple of round plates. Hope this helps.
Holly shit the video I was actually looking for.😂
i subbed just for your music choice
Learn the fundamentals and then have fun. Boom you know how to ride. It’s way easier than you would think. Don’t overthink it. Take your time and enjoy.
Thanks I am wanting to get a good starter bike I was not sure of the 300 or 400 I was wanting the 650 but I am just wanting to get out and enjoy the road and some motorcycle therapy I am disabled and suffer from sever chronic depression so I won't be riding a long time just a few minutes a day get out and enjoy the bike and the scenery and not be coupled up in the house just getting more depressed. I would love your comments on a bike for me and also about good riding gear that's not to expensive like the helmet gloves etc.... thanks for the video I really enjoyed it I can't wait to hear your thoughts.
I just rode my r3 for the first time I went smooth stalled a bit but was able to go didn’t make it out of first gear tho maybe next time
Nice. I think showing people you can take off without gas is important for new riders. Also scenery looks like Montana, I am hesitant about a bike because after snow there is so much sand and dirt leftover...any issues with that?
Alright 🤙🤙

bro didnt I watch you BARELY pass ur road test only because that instructor was generous af & now ur a teacher?
I had ridden a Hyosung Comet 250R for years, before that a Hyosung Eviv 150, I'm just about about to get a 2022 R3 as I've had a 5 year hiatus from riding. I like the thought behind this video but need to point out counter-steering is not making a sharp turn. It's in the name, when you're going at speed you will naturally look towards, lean and actually turn the handlebars opposite to the way you are turning (i.e. counter-steer) to make those turns. Would be better for new riders if you demonstrated counter-steering on the open road.
