    I have a 12 yr. old Harman Advance pellet stove. On 2 occasions, the auger quit feeding the stove. Got the auger to start again by resetting the stove and playing with the control knobs. The third time the auger quit I could not get it to start again. Watched your video on replacing the auger motor and discovered that the chain on my stove had come loose significantly. Thanks to your video, I was able to properly re-tighten the chain and the auger started working again. Since this was the third episode of the auger not working, thought it best to just order a new auger motor. Thanks to your video again, I am confident I can replace the auger motor should it quit working again. Much appreciate your help. And, forgot to mention that it was 13 degrees outside when this happened, and my pellet stove is my main source of heat. You are a real life saver my friend.

  • @EarthSense

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Kevin, thanks for reaching out. One of the sprockets will have the allen set screw that secures it (the one we remove in the video here to replace the auger motor). The other sprocket uses a bolt to secure it. I believe it's a 7/16" bolt, but it may be 1/2". You will also need to remove the nut on the front side to release the bolt coming through from the back. I believe that is a 1/2" or 9/16" nut. Here are the replacement chain and sprocket parts we offer for Harman for your reference. pellethead.com/?s=harman+sprocket. Thanks for the input David, saw both of your recent messages. Good to know it's 4 blinks. The Room Sensing Probe plugs in to the back of the unit - two small male terminal connectors. The room sensing probe is approx. 5' long and it's the device that reads the room temperature allowing the stove to operate correctly in room temp mode. I think you are referring to the igniter toggle as manual? Does your stove operate when you have it in Stove Temp Mode? (On Newer Model control boards this will be Constant Burn Mode). Keep your igniter toggle on Auto and let us know if the stove operates in Stove Temp mode and if you have any status light blinks in this mode of operation. Thanks,

  • @EarthSense

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Milagros, happy to help. If the chain has a lot of give and is falling off, I would suggest loosening the bolts that hold the auger motor to the bracket. You can then pull the auger motor towards you which will take slack out of the chain. Tighten the bolts down while keeping tension on the motor. The Nylon Tensioner Ball/Wheel also has a bit of adjustment which can help. Make sure the chain and sprockets look even/lined up. I just saw your other message, I will comment on that one too. Thanks.

  • @EarthSense

    @EarthSense

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Milagros, so if you are facing the rear of the stove, the sprocket on the left which is attached to the auger motor shaft will only turn when power is given to the motor. You can loosen the allen bolt to pull off the sprocket, however with the sprocket secured to the shaft of the auger, you would not be able to turn that by hand. The sprocket on the right side you would only be able to turn by hand if all of the pellets were cleaned out of the hopper and auger. They are both 3-1/2" sprockets - which one are you referring to? Double check to make sure nothing is jammed up in the fuel hopper too. Keep us posted, happy to help.

    Thanks for the message David. If no lights come on when you switch over to Stove Temp mode then I would say there is an issue with the control/circuit board. Especially because you are getting lights when you are on Room Temp mode. Odd that it was running previous in Room Temp mode without the temperature probe plugged into the back of the unit, the unit is designed not to operate in Room Temp mode without that Temperature Sensing Probe securely in place on the back of the unit. The combustion blower will come on but it will not feed and the status will give the 4 blinks. First of all, thank you again for all your informative videos. Thanks to you, I was able to change my auger motor and replace my igniter on my 12 year old Harmon Advance pellet stove with no problems. Just recently now, my stove started making a squeaking/squealing noise when the pusher arm moves. I noticed that there is about 1/2" of movement in the arm causing it to slide in and out freely. When the arm is slid in (on it's own), this is when it squeaks or squeals. If i slide the pusher arm back out, it will stop making noise. After about 5 or 6 turns of the auger, the arm ends up slid back in and the noise starts again when the auger turns. Is this normal for the pusher arm to slide a little like this? Can I just remove the 2 bolts holding the pusher arm to the stove and pull the arm out to see what is wrong? Maybe needs a little lubrication. Thanks!

    Thanks for contacting us, very happy to hear the videos have been helpful! I just sent your question to one of our other techs to get their input. We will have new videos up within the week on cleaning the slide plate/sawdust cleanout box area as well as replacing the auger shaft.

    OK, just heard from our tech - There are two bushings on the rod that holds that arm. If the bushings get worn out that will allow that arm to move in and out slightly. The only permanent fix is to replace the bushings in the fines compartment area as they should be a fairly tight fit on that rod. Lubricating them would help but in the end it would only be a band aid fix for the noise. With that said, let's inspect those bushings. If you do notice they need to be replaced just let us know and we can get you the part numbers.

    i am trying to change the auger motor on my Harman Advance pellet stove. After watching your video, I have run into 2 problems that were not covered. First, the flat surface of the shaft is pointing straight up so the set screw will not line up with it. Can I just turn the shaft with a pair of pliers so it will line up with the set screw? Will I damage the motor if I try to forcibly turn the shaft? And, second, there is no fan on the new motor. Do I need to remove the old fan and install it on the new motor. Can I use the new motor without the fan? I would kindly appreciate any help you can give me here. Thank you!

  • @EarthSense

    @EarthSense

    The easiest thing to do would be to plug the wires into the harness on the stove and put it into test mode to run the feed motor until the flat spot is where you want it. If you try to forcibly move it by hand you will most likely strip teeth off of the gears internally on the motor. The new motors do not run anywhere near as hot as the old ones and there is not a need for a cooling fan anymore so they no longer put one on. There is no need to reuse the cooling fan and there is also not a shaft to attach it to on the back of the motor anyways. Hope this helps.

    Thank you kindly for your immediate reply. Obviously, I wasn't thinking when I asked how to line up the flat spot on the shaft with the set screw. I could have just removed the large geared socket from the chain and just turned it until the set screw lined up with the flat spot, and then reattached the chain. I think I'll blame that mental lapse on the covid-19 virus. I did use your suggestion about the "test" mode though to get the 2 to line up when first reinstalling the new motor. After watching your video several more times, that is when I noticed that you had removed the chain from the large geared socket and then just turned the large socket as needed to line up the set screw with the flat spot on the shaft. Wow, can't believe I couldn't figure that out. Thank you again for your help and patience in assisting me with my 2 questions. You definitely saved me the cost of a service call from the shop. I was also previously able to replace the ignitor on the same stove thanks to another of your videos. Your videos are an immense help. You deserve a truck load of thank you's.

    Loved the video it was very clear but I have a couple of questions. How do you trouble shoot the auger motor? My pellets don't feed but could it be something else besides the auger motor? We thought it was the ignitor and purchased one at $150.00 that didn't solve our problem. I don't want to spend more money on something that I don't need. Also, how do you get to the auger motor? Our closest repair person is more than an hour away so would like to try fixing this ourselves. I have a Harmon Advance that is 15 years old. Thank you for the help.

    Thanks for contacting us. Yes, you can test your auger motor direct to see if it's an issue with the motor or not. Here is a link that will show you how to do that. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pKChy6WSeZW9gM4.html. The Vacuum Switch in your stove can also prevent the auger motor from working if the switch was tripped. Here is a video link that will show you how to bypass the vacuum switch for testing purposes. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eHiKzcSseLafZbg.html You can email us direct and we are happy to help with further troubleshooting or parts needed. info@pellethead.com.
