How to Catch Springtime Squid on Cape Cod

Springtime squid action on Cape Cod occurs during late April and early May. I feel your chance of success will increase as soon as the water temperature hits 50 degrees, which is when loligo squid invade the shallows of Nantucket Sound to spawn.
Please be very cautious when boating or kayaking this spring on Cape Cod. The water is extremely cold and if you were to fall overboard, then hypothermia will set in quickly. I currently wear a Gul U-Zip drysuit along with a high quality PFD from Stohlquist to increase safety.

Where I’m at in southern Maine, squid fishing is as easy as cast-and-retrieve, when the bite is on of course. So much of their bodies is useful for calamari. Freakin awesome 👍

Those sea robins are darn good eating, a little weird to filet, but a great tasting fish. I like to take the larger ones only, because they’re mostly head. Spiky too, ouch.

Great comment, thank you! I'd like to catch a big sea robin on the fly rod this year. 🐟
