No not illegal. Only illegal to fish in a "green zone" marine protected area.

Using a 2.5 jig. Handy to have a 2 aswell if they are a tad fussy

Where is spot?

One of the best squidding session I've seen. Would've been so much fun. Damn I need to go QLD! What brand is the squid jig? If you dont mind me asking. Looks like black magic but yours seems more silver than a white body.

My grandfather would give you a spray for cleaning them with fresh water he would bring home buckets of salt water as he reckons fresh made them tougher. I could never pick the difference though..
