What I've learned from owning my truck is I'm always chasing loads and repairs
Hi Brian, You are absolutely right, as someone who owned three trucks before and failed I can honestly say there is a lot of factors that need to fall in place for you to succeed in this business and I would say 30 precent you have no control of if you don't despatch yourself and 70 precent is your knowledge and experience, personally, willingness and your actions has a direct effect. Preventable maintenance is the key and also low idle times for the new trucks . 🥂God Bless!!
Get a rig dig on each used truck , pay attention to electrical issues , on this post his headlight modules might be on the way out . Kenworth has issues with electrical . Try and get a oil sample and down load a ecm report
Having owned 5 trucks with all engines except paccar, Detroit is the cheapest engine to work on. Freightliner with a Detroit is a great starter truck. After few years in business you can buy something you will love

Glad to see content man, hands down one of the best trucking channels on KZread. Your one of the main reasons I got into trucking. Thanks for all the good info and I’m eager to see what the new year brings! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
As a mechanic an new driver I recommend the Cummins x15. Looking forward to the day I can retrofit an x15 into an old school w900. But wait, Cat is talking about getting back into the street legal let's cross our fingers that they show up and show out.

I’ve agree with you, it’s definitely the best engine. And I’ve heard some rumors and truly hope CAT will make another appearance!

From my personal experience with the new x15 I think it was a joke. I scratch my head wondering why you would want a new motor in a old truck? All the old motors out there I would want in a new truck. To each is their own tho.

@@DrivenTrucking cat is not always the best engine, they've produced some of the worst diesel engiinnes along with some of the best, it's best to do research before buying any engine and not rely on one engine over shadowing the rest.
Txs for all the information stay safe out there bro
Very good points Brian, merry Christmas to you and your family
Great advice 1000.00 a month save me from going belly up with breakdowns my first year and now it affords me to work on my terms.

Brian, Thank you for an excellent video with awesome content. Keep up the great work. Stay safe, keep smiling and Merry Christmas 🎁 to you and family!
Solid advise...
Great video señor!.. I still love your intro .. This is the best intro you have made so far
I blindly bought a used 2016 freightliner cascadia from a used truck dealership, my first truck as a new owner operator. I should’ve had someone go with me several times to test drive it and just get a second opinion. So after 100k miles last year I had to replace the xy shifter most of the rubber hoses under the hood. Several air fittings. Leveling valve and a couple sensors. Luckily the engine and transmission have been running good so far (knock on wood 🪵 🙌 )! And obviously keeping up with all the usual maintenance. The one thing I did notice is that everything under the truck was painted black which hid rust spots. None seem major but that was something that never crossed my mind. Great 👍🏽 info!
Great video 👍🏻👍🏻
Merry Christmas .great video thanks for sharing..hope you have a safe and prosperous new year God Bless ...
like your story keep up the good work, MerryChristmas
Wheelbase does apply in which truck depending on if you are pulling long oversize loads.
I'm gonna buy a pre 99 379 lowered and stretched with a cat. Already have my vest and drivers gloves to complete my super trucker setup
I’m liking the north face hoodie, digging that dad hat, and most importantly that damn beard!!!!
I bought mine 2 years ago bought it for 12k 10k in repairs so far no issues just regular maintenance

Your thoughts on leasing your equipment? Thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS! 🎅🎁🤶🎄🙏
Could u maybe do some tarping videos? I wanna do flatbed as an owner operator in a few years and would like to see more tips on tarping
T680 with a MX-13 engine ;) was thinking of going automatic until I spoke to a buddy who's a KW mechanic who told me he'd pay me to stay away from them. problematic, plus when autos aren't shifting it's 5 things it could be, manuals... 3 things that it could be. hope you got some down time to spend Christmas with the family ;)
I have a couple questions. After you buy your first truck how much money should you be putting away for maintenance and what’s a good total amount to hit and keep saved for maintenance and repairs. Also do you recommend buying the warranty from the dealership?
Friend of mine went and bought a brand new Kenworth and 53 ft step deck for 350k now he got into a fight with the company he waz working with because he was not getting enough miles. I agree with everything you said. I am looking to buy this spring but it won't be a truck I want it will be a truck that can do the job with lower milage and low payments where it can be paid for in 2 yrs and then make money for 2 or 3 yrs after its paid off. And I'm said to say it will most likely be a cascadia automatic they seem to be the cheaper option for used trucks. But if there are no maintenance records then I won't be buying it.
Commercials air when you are doing your commercial.......🤮 O/O 2000 Int 9400i bought for $10k. I would NEVER own a truck with EGR & on. Can't run California, they can suck it. So the truck has made money with only $500 parts initially (which I knew when I bought it). It took me six mos. to find this truck, looked at a LOT of total junk. So, I knew I was going to put money into it along the way. Third year running it has made the money to pay for, I inframed the N14 ($19k). Overhauled the entire drive line, extended fifth wheel rails, new jaws in fifth wheel, new steering box for seal starting to seap on output shaft ($12k). Also along the way new tires, shocks, all mods to make the truck what I wanted. I have a $35k 20yr. old truck with all new critical components that will take me to retirement (nine years) problem free. I also paid off my $16k flatbed trailer. I am on an aggressive preventive maintenance schedule. I would rather spend the money on the truck rather than give it to the IRS. All miles 7.53 mpg. Axle in the air empty, 9.7mpg. Those pretty yellow 5.5mpg CATS? Can't Afford That! Better be pulling heavy & O/D to make a buck with them, which in turn tears up your truck & logistics headaches. I initially hit the ground running with $11,000 truck and a lease purchase trailer with Mercer, doing the same loads as the $200,000 new plastic fantastics. I learned how to drive a truck profitably driving for another o/o and what truck I wanted listening to Rutherfords program on XM. I am literally out here doing it and taking a ton of time off enjoying the best life I know how. A lot better that little dick syndrome/broke dick/everyone is furlowed Commercial Pilot gig in a previous life.
Need some advice. Looking to buy a truck and I prefer a 13speed but I'm wondering if it's safer to buy a used truck that's automatic in hopes that the previous driver(s) didn't put more wear and tear than normal for the year and mileage of the truck. Are my concerns valid or should I stick to a stick?
Bottom line on the matter of payments is this, keep your overhead low as possible. If you’re in a position to buy a truck in cash, or pay off within a fairly short time, that’s all the better.
Can we get a video about leave purchase owner operator?
Did you delete it??
