How to Build Fishing Jugs | Foam and Bottle Technique

Спорт

How to build diy fishing jugs for catfishing using foam pool noodles, pvc and bottle jugs. The jug line technique has been used for many years using standard jugs and bottles, but now there is a way to build strike indicating float jug that show when a catfish has grabbed the line. Since I am building these for the first time, I will be showing you how to tie the fishing knots and what line to use as well and how this technique works. Happy fishing!

Just ran some "jugs" the other night here in Eastern KY. Went out and caught some shad with my throw net and went chasing Mr. Whiskers! Love the channel!

Zinc trapping tags are great for use on your jugs. The pack contains copper wire to attach the tag to your jug line. These tags are embossed when you write on them. They are strong and can be rolled up to stop them from flailing in the water, yet easily unrolled for reading the information on them. I've used tons of these back when fur prices were worth a damn. Now, I use them on my jugs and baitfish traps.

I run the same kind of setup, but stay between 5 and 15 feet deep. Mine are all free floating with 1/2 or 3/4oz bank sinkers on the line to bring the bait down. 18" piece of 3/4" scd40 (or lighter) pipe, capped, and an 12" piece of pool noodle down by the hook with reflective tape at the opposite end. Never found a need for the internal weight, but I sit out on the boat and watch the jugs bounce. Works great!

I used 1/2" schedule 21 S&D. It's thin walled and lighter than sch 40. And cheaper. I also used a 5/8 rod for the metal weight. 5/8 will fit inside the sch 21 but not the sch 40. I used an eye bolt with a nut and washer inside and outside so that the steel weight wouldn't knock it loose after a while. I added a sealant around the eye bolt ( a lot on the inside). Also, I added a swivel to my mono leader so that when the cats start to roll trying to get off the hook it doesn't make a mess of my line. And, for night fishing let's not forget to put a wrap of reflective tape at the top of the noodle so that you can do a sweep with a spotlight and see any jug that has been uprighted. I usually set out at least 6 and as many as 12. Then I find a spot to relax with a beverage of choice and sweep the area occasionally with my spotlight. You can see the reflective tape several hundred yards away. As far as the jug color goes, any color is fine except orange. Orange is for commercial fishing. I just happened to use the the same lime green as you.

The whole DIY thing is awesome! Love it! The schedule 40 PVC is heavy and meant for commercial applications....it is way too dense! Go lighter and use PVC cement and primer. It is designed to bond those pieces together, permanently! You can get away with using construction adhesive......but it isn't the best adhesive. You rock!
