THEY WORK! Catching Catfish on Overnight DIY Juglines!

Спорт

I've building a second round of DIY catfish juglines to leave out overnight. They new ones work really well and I'm leaving them in the lake overnight to see if any catfish eat the bait. Although this is a primitive fishing technique, it still works and is easy and fun way to fish after you have the juglines built.

Hey Justin, I've used jug lines often and one thing I suggest if you are going to be out with the jugs is allow them to drift with the wind. They will cover more water and have a greater chance of catching fish. Also catch fresh shad or blue gills and cut them into chunks. I will be putting a video together to show you how I do it.

One simple and cheap modification I have used to help keep track of jugs in the dark and recognize strikes is to put a glow stick in the end. Poke both ends in between the noodle and the pvc. When a fish activates the jug the glow stick points straight up.

Justin, for big ol' cats, try this. For blues and channels throw out some chicken liver, wrap it in some panty hose to keep it hooked well. Hook it onto a 5/0 or 6/0 Circle hook. For the best tasting catfish (flathead). Use a little bit bigger hook and throw on some live shad/shiners or some cut bluegill. You and OSG will be eating some catfish dinner! Good luck!

LFG, I got what you need on the jug lines brother. I have felt your pain, but I have taken that pain and turned it into the greatest creation EVAR! You are on the right path with your noodle setup, but you went wrong with the thin noodle. You got to hit up wal Mart and got the ultra media super fat pool noodles. Chop that bad boy down to dumbbell size and fit it to your rig, but do not secure it just yet. Once it fits your jug line aetup, whatever it may be, you take the big noodle and put it on a spare piece of PVC, take and angle grinder with a coarse flap disc and begin to shape the noodle like an hour glass. It doesn't take much, you just want some tape to keep your excess rope in check and in the middle. Then! Get rid of those loops, wasted effort and rope. All you need is a straight piece of rope like you already got, deploy your jug line, find bottom and give it some scope. Take you noodle and you rope, make a loop with a couple twists in it, wrap that loop over the noodle, do it again the other direction. Your rope length will not move because it's twisted under itself and its not a knot, so once you get back home thst evening, stretch out your lines and unwrap the twists, your hugs are ready to deploy again.

Used to jug fish with my brother before getting into almost exclusively bass fishing. Couple tips i would give: Circle hooks - fish pulls down and sets the hook on itself Raw shrimp you buy at the grocery store works pretty well around here if you can't cast net some shad up for cut bait. it also doesn't stink. We had noodles set up for 5/10/15 feet lengths as usually the thermocline wasnt much deeper than that in the heat of summer.

May sound weird, but the absolute best bait for jugs is Beef Stew Meat marinated in minced garlic. Have never caught anything under 2 pounds on it. Circle hooks are also your best bet to keep them on the hook better. Just a little tip to not lose so many when pulling them in, yank the line like your setting the hook on a normal fish on rod and reel, works every time. I am actually doing my first Jug Line video tonight on my channel Louisiana Outdoorsmen!

LFG .... You ever throw a spread cast net? Getchu some live shad, maybe a Gill. Get them baked in the sun just Long enough to dry out a bit, not rot. Ooooman you wanna talk about bringing them in! I grew up with jug lines on the lake of the Ozarks and man are they fun! 12yrs old I was running a few dozen noodles, counting the group like you do ..and I lost one. Only to catch a glimpse of it coming back to the surface several minutes later. Now to hold a jug under that fish has got to have some legs on it. I landed a 64lb blue that day and I've been hooked since. With a nice respect for big fish I might add. My set up was around 20" of pool noodle get your trautline in the tip of a pair of needle nose. Shove it halfway through about 3-4" from the end.(half way cause the needle nose would spread that hole around the string) Go to the other side of the noodle and go in to retrieve the string so it is clean threaded thru. now needle nose in the noodle center hole on the short end grab the string and pull a loop and tie it all together. The loop ensuring that the noodle tips from the end and stands up. No weights, no pvc. They will stand up to many dozens of fish before they wear out. If it's not looking good go cut another section of the 99¢noodle and you are fresh, back in the game. This hits close to home, chasing noodles. Keep em coming bud

Pvc and the weight inside gets hit and it's triggered. I guess it's an indication to check your bait. That all just seems like more to dial in for it to work. Keep it simple. You betcha you won't be disappointed Shoot man what am I saying, teachmesomethingnew

Try cutting the 2 packages of hot dogs into 1" chunks. Place them into a plastic bag with 2 tbsp of minced garlic and 1 packet of strawberry Kool-Aid mix. This has worked extremely well for me. The garlic sends an oil slick in the water and the strawberry flavoring helps them hold on to the baits. Good luck.

Cut skipjack are what the catfish here like. They have more oil than shad. Another thing I have used is chicken breast cut in chunks with a lot, a lot, a lot of garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Let the chicken marinate in that for a couple days then use or freeze for later use. Also cut or live bluegill works well to. Great video, thanks for all you and OSG do while making these videos for us. God bless.

Might want to put a snubber on your leader leading to your hook. This will help improve your percentage of hookups I think. They are basically surgical tubing with swivels on either end of them. When a fish strikes, the surgical tubing flexes and helps set the hook for you. We used them when downrigging very deep for smaller fish that sometimes had trouble tripping the downrigger slips.

Take 16oz. bottles paint them white and cut a swimming noodle in 3-4 inch slices. Glue the slices to the bottle bottom with liquid nails and tie the line around the neck of the bottle and you are ready to go. The hook can be stuck in the noodle slice on the end and stacked in a milk crate to keep them all together. When I jug fish my crate has around 30 jugs in the crate and I can put them out or pick them up in just a few minutes. My lines are only 3-4 foot long because I fish the flats, but if you want to fish longer lines you can wrap the lines around the jug and use a rubber band to secure the line at a certain depth. The lines I use small trotline with a barrel swivel tied to 30 pound mono with a small hook with threaded or cut shad. Give it a try it works well and its cheap.

A few tips: Stick with circle hooks for increased hook up ratio, something even better would be a treble hook, but only use if you plan to eat the fish. Look into a 3 way swivel to tie your hook of off it'll help with the fish twisting and causing tangles and getting off. Those shad are terrible bait, grab a cast net and catch your own shad. Fun to do and can get as much bait as you need.
