How to build a moveable RV deck
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This video shows you how I built a temporary deck on my rv. We actually built three and I edited the final version. We built two 8x10 frames and put them together to get a deck size of 8x20. The reason for this is because we still move the rv's to other campgrounds and need to be able to easily move the decks in and out of place.

Nice! I’ve had something like this in my head for years but couldn’t put it together. This is perfect! Thank you.
Looks nice. When we built our deck for our camper spot, we used 2X12, and 2X10, and some 2X8. Depending on where. Everyone that came by would laugh and say I could park my car on it. But it was crazy solid...

We move this from time to time, I didn't want to go that big. This deck has held up over time.
Fantastic job. We are about to build one. Thank you for sharing. 😊
I like it!
You did a great job. If I could suggest anything is that 2x4's do not pass code for structural floor joist. 2x6 or 2x8 on 16" centers depending on height and payload. Just a thought

Guy Charles thank you for watching and commenting... i went with 2x4 for a few reasons... 1. It’s cheaper lol. 2. We are only a couple feet off the ground so I felt we weren’t sacrificing safety and 3. It’s lighter to move the deck when we need to move it. Under any other circumstances I would go with a larger beam. However, I do these projects on my own and am always open to any type of advice, observations or constructive criticism. They usually lead to other projects and any time i can do something that is an improvement on what i have is a plus for me... thank you

...sorry for late comment , thanks for the tip, I will try this
So are those 2x4 joists 24 in. on centre? Was there much bounce? We are looking at doing the same thing at ground level but we have to make it with 4x8 boxes. Thank you, this video gave us some good ideas.😀

yes, that's what I did, no issues with it
looks good question about the spacing on the joist is that at 24" set ahead?
@capercamper

yes, we figured that would be fine considering it is just a rv deck. No issues in our instance
what did you use to draw out the computer drawing?
So how would you move this?
@capercamper

drag it out , a lifter or two on each end will do it. The deck is made in two sections , each one is 8x10 which is not hard to move around.
What size boards did you use for the deck itself?

The ones you see are 1 x 6 veranda boards
What material are the footings?

Glen Cameron those footings can be bought at any Lowe’s homedepot just pre made 4x4 blocks

they are patio deck blocks, you can get them at any lumber yard
How much did all the material cost if u don’t mind me asking
@capercamper

I can't remember the exact price, lumber prices can vary but I seem to think this was in the ballpark of around $500 give or take a little
Did u guys use some kind of brackets to hold the decking frame to the beams, or is it just sitting on top.
@capercamper

it's just sitting on top, we used a couple long screws to butt them together. We have recently built another deck for another trailer and they are just sitting on top... so far no issues. If there are we can do the same. thanks for watching
This looks great! Is it necessary to get a permit for this deck?

You would need to check the laws in your area , if you are on a campground (to my knowledge, you do not need a permit, I would think permission from the owner of the campground should be given though)
What are the post bases that you used?

@@raymondgaczewski4333 i got them at Home Depot, they are not a brand. You buy them bases on the dimensions… each one is ~$8-9 dollars

I always cringe when I see people doing construction projects in sandals or flip flops. If you drop something on your toe or step on a nail... You deserve it for being stupid enough to not protect your feet. Nice job though.

Just depends how much of a klutz you are, lol. I do it all the time, so far so good. I did ram the refrigerator door into my foot, and the dog is forever stepping on my feet. May I should always wear steel toe boots. Have a great day!
