I ditched toothpaste over ten years ago. Me and my family have used baking soda ever since. I wet the toothbrush and dip it into the soda. Its caked one. Then stick it under a dripping faucet just to turn it into a wet paste. Spread around all teeth, then light brushing. Rinse. Then i gargle with peroxide for a whole minute. Rinse. Toothpaste caused thrush, gingivitis, swollen gums, tartar, cavities, and kept me going to the dentist. I haven't been back once after ditching toothpaste. People should wise up and realize the industry wants you to need them $$. They will lie to get your business. Same applies to healthcare.

Upper teeth are brushed down and lower teeth are brushed upward. I have been brushing that way ever since with whatever paste that was handy and now have healthy teeth and gums. I am swiss-german and it is very astounding how much the scientific consensus changes depending on language. When you google baking soda in german, all the dentist say that baking soda is super abrasive and should enver be used on teeth (but no actual rda mention and no personal anecdotes either). When you google it in english, they say numerous times that baking soda has a rda of 9, so way less abrasive then most toothpastes. And of course it has a high ph so great for neutralizing acids. Thanks doc, I'll try this technique! Never learned it like this

Was researching years ago about the affects typical toothpastes have on the body with their minimal doses that build up past the safe body limits we're allowed to digest and I quit them. Since then, I've been brushing with coconut oil and baking soda ever since. I rinse with hydrogen peroxide about twice a week and have always had great dental checkups. My visits for the past few years have left my hygienists disappointed because they were hoping to give me a cleaning but there wasn't anything to clean. I've literally had my mouth be called 'boring' because there wasn't anything to clean. I always get asked what I use and the dentists/hygienists are always surprised. It has cut down the cost of my dental supplied drastically and I have a healthier mouth. Thanks to dentists like you, we're able to make better choices.

My 16 year old son first rinses his mouth with baking soda dissolved in water immediately after eating to clear his mouth and neutralize acids before brushing his teeth by dipping his tooth brush in the water/baking soda solution. After brushing he flosses by dipping the floss in the water/baking soda solution and repeats after flossing each space between the teeth. The result: one dentist check-up per year with no cavities or other oral health problems. Of course, not eating between meals, no candy or soda...ever...water only betweeen meals, and other dietary factors has played a role in his stellar oral health, too. We started him on a healthy diet and oral care regiment early in life and it has not only kept him healthy, but saved him from needless suffering as well as thousands of dollars for us in his care.

This is great. WAY cheaper than buying toothpaste. I'm going to try this, but the other thing that I do is use a Waterpik to clean between my teeth and gumline using about a 20% solution of food-grade hydrogen peroxide. I just started this a couple of months ago and I'm going to the dentist this Friday to see how the pockets have healed. My teeth sure seem to be a lot tighter since I started that, so I think my gums are growing back to health. I also had a bad infection in my left main molar that I've been keeping at bay this way. It helped, but couldn't completely get rid of it, so that tooth is now gone and I'm waiting for the bone graft to heal so I can get an implant to replace it.

So it's either get an implant or never chew on that side of my mouth again. I don't see much of an option.

Far better than any middle aged American alive today. Nowadays, the kids can't even make it to ten years old and they have a mouth full of fillings, crowns and braces that cost more than a car. When they get in their college years, there is no way in creation they can get by without having all of their Wisdom teeth surgically removed... Something just isn't right here.

tl;dr - hundred/thousand years ago more chewing = bigger mouth = no need for extracting wisdom teeth, far as those go. If it helps any, part of the reason is that said hundred/thousand years ago, there used to be a lot more chewing involved as food overall was far less processed. Therefore it was more chewy (think - roasted leg/shoulder joint of an animal levels of chewiness) which required a larger jaw and also added more muscle to it, thus adding more space. So that's why, at least far as wisdom teeth go, those weren't pulled out as often.

@@isisilya5120 this is what I’ve found: “According to the Mohs Hardness Scale, tooth enamel earns a 5. That means it's about as hard, or harder, than steel. For reference, diamonds are the strongest substance on earth, ranking 10 on the Mohs scale.” Have you ever tried to polish steel with baking soda? I have, it’s so difficult I gave up. My feeling is you could never brush long enough or hard enough to do any damage to the enamel. Use common sense though, use a small amount and brush lightly. There’s no reason to grind off anything from your teeth. I alternate on different days using salt, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, turmeric with black pepper combination. Everyday is something different including Vicco toothpaste made in India. *Edit. I’ve recently added povidone iodine to the days when I use toothpaste. Just a drop added to the toothpaste to kill bacteria. I’m aware that I am killing good and bad bacteria but my intention is to kill the bad stuff & hoping the good will return before the bad. Thinking about it now, I should immediately follow up with protective coating of some sort before the bad bacteria attacks enamel.

This is the first time I've ever heard a dentist address the root cause of tooth decay! I had an epiphany years ago that the key to eliminating plaque was to reduce the growth of bacteria which is absolutely necessary for it to form. We began rinsing our mouths thoroughly at bedtime with warm water mixed with Sodium Bicarbonate(food-grade baking soda) to create an environment hostile to the unfettered growth of bacteria by meddling with PH. We also began disinfecting toothbrushes after every use with hydrogen peroxide. We haven't had any issues with plaque or cavities since that time! It's amazing that such a small change in hygiene can have such a dramatic effect. But it's unconscionable that modern dentistry doesn't understand, or promote, proper hygiene. And we got rid of commercial toothpaste that's loaded with Sodium Saccharin! It literally promotes bacterial growth and tooth decay while you sleep! I often think we're still living in the Dark Ages of medicine...

Just think if everyone knew all you need are these 2 inexpensive items to prevent tooth decay & cavities. The entire dental industry would be in jeopardy. I feel the baking soda & peroxide is extremely important especially due to the diet of most people. Modern medicine is mostly all about money now rather than educating people on preventives practices.

Anecdotal account here: I personally stopped using paste at all. I simply wet the bristles and scrub them until they feel squeaky clean. I've done this for some time now and have had no negative consequences during check ups. The only positive I can note is that I no longer have sensitive teeth.

I use my toothpaste that is ADA approved. Using my Oral B electric. When the bristles go down(? 3mos) I replace. I do start from alittle near gum line then brush down. I floss also everyday, morning & night. I use the ACT RESTORING also everyday. Faithfully I see my dentist every 6 Mos. which will be now as I moved & it was difficult getting in to a dental appointment. So over a yr. and a half I thought something show up with X-rays or something but no... Praise God I wasn't there long & it pays by taking care of your teeth. Oh & don't forget too brush your tongue. Best to you!

My grandmother used to make me brush with baking soda. I was just at the dentist the other day and we were discussing hydrogen peroxide. I have a bridge and had been using glyoxide to clean it but it is no longer available. She suggested using diluted hydrogen peroxide (3 parts water to 1 part hp) or peroxyl to rinse with. This is certainly a more cost effective method.

THANK YOU... I've been using just neat bicarb of soda powder with a soft-head ionic toothbrush... but it doesn't seem enough. Been learning the value of salt (preferably Celtic grey damp seasalt) in good purified water, for proper hydration. And I have some Hydrogen Peroxide, just got a small book with better instructuions how to use it as I've been feeling unsure, and wary of it, seeing the damage it can do if used wrongly.. tho some of that at least is likely to be big pharma scare-mongering. Thank you again, sooo helpful. God Bless you too 🙏

I laugh when I hear dentist recommend baking soda and peroxide to patients. My mother had 9 birthed children, 7 stepchildren and 3 younger brothers to raise. We never went to a dentist unless we needed a tooth pulled. Our teeth were white, with long, strong roots. Every dentist was surprised when they heard that this- concoction as they called it- was all we used to clean our teeth. They my mom and us feel like we were doing something wrong. Now the dentist are recommending this to patients.😁😁😁

Funny a lot of dentists recommend not to use baking soda. As they say it’s to abrasive. But when I googled the abrasiveness of toothpaste. I found toothpaste (Colgate regular 68, crest regular 110) is much more abrasive than baking soda (7) or even a plain toothbrush with water (4)
