    Used to breed 20 species of Corydoras back 10 year ago. C.Aeneus and Brochis are the easiest to breed. But live food cost a fortune here. Using live bloodworm, tubifex and microworm here.

    As a beginner fish keeper I bred my Emeralds with huge success, 50+ (January 2022). At almost two years old now, they are the fan favorite of visitors. They truly have the ability to brighten my mood. Watching them, I can’t help but smile. They develop little personalities.

    An old time fish breeder told me he believes that the Cory fry need to build a gut bacteria to aid with digestion. That's the importance of plants, mulm, and or leaves in the grow-out tank. I use Oak leaves because they are FREE 😃. Many times you'll have a HUGE die off at the 2 week mark, the leaves, plants, etc. seem to help with this issue. One more thing, when I have stubborn breeders I'll stick a power head in the tank. This gives a nice water flow and it seems to push them in to spawning. Great Video!!! P.S. I hope you weren't talking about my Cory breeding videos when you said "Other breeding videos" LOL

    Yes there's science that shows that leaves and mulm that have been colonized by bacteria are more digestible and more nutritious than fresh leaves, the fish actually gain a significant amount of nutrition from the bacterial films on breaking down botanicals.

    You have the patience of a saint sir... I could not begin to imagine collecting hundreds of eggs one by one lol. My girls spread their eggs on the glass I have a great system of scraper with net that scrapes and collects at the same time. I collected about 150 a few days ago.

    Works. When my father passed his fish came to me. I've done my best but I'm down to his last cory cat. Those fish survived everything. There tanks. I had no luck breeding them in the communiity tank I built. (or maybe I didn't see it). I swapped out to their orignal 29g tank followed your method. Just pulled off 30+ eggs off the glass. The line will live on ;)

    My corys started breeding 3 days ago, i saw the female sucking on the male in the T pose while shaking vigorously, now 3 days later i have over 10 cory babys that have hatched!! It was pretty easy moving them to another tank because the eggs are really tough and hard and then 2 to 3 days later they started getting darker and the infertile eggs went white and a little soft, so they were easy to separate. Also i only used melafix for an antifungal, and it worked. As well as keeping one neocaradina shrimp in with them. Cant wait to have them grow up😊

    An alternative that has been helpful for me has been to use the tannins from the almond leaves as a substitute for the methylene blue! Good for when its hard to get hold of methylene blue. Just relying on the leaves can take a while for the tannins to diffuse into the water so boiling the leaves can be a quick way to get a "tea" that u can dose into ur hatching tanks!

  • @vincentxiong152

    @vincentxiong152

    5 ай бұрын

    jus to add, u can choose either to add the whole entire thing of boiled “tea” almond leaves/oak leaves or add a precise amount with a turkey baster or small syringe, either way the tannin lookin mold is great for microorganisms for small fry

    I've had good success hatching them out by keeping it simple. Plastic shoe boxes with tank water and a bubbler set really low. Holds about 6 cups of water and I swap about 2 cups of tank water daily with it. No food, just make sure there is a bit of mulm in the initial tub setup. I let them grow in there until large enough to not get eaten then it's into a tank (or outdoor tub weather dependant, they grow huge outside) Of note: Substrate color will effect the darkness (at least peppered) of the fish. Dark substrate = dark fish. Tubs are clear and with nothing on the floor the fish will be much lighter

    I can't stop my peppered cory breeding. Doesn't matter what water temperature, what food I feed, how often I change the water, they keep producing eggs. Occasionally I'll pick some eggs out and bring them on , but have to be quick as they're in a community tank and can become snacks very quickly
