How to Bond Your Characters Correctly - Persona 5 vs Tales of Berseria

Video games can demonstrate how to bond your characters in many ways. One surefire way of doing so is through writing great dialogue. Persona 5 and Tales of Berseria are two games where dialogue is the most important part of bonding their characters. Writing characters can be done through implicit exposition and explicit exposition.
While this is a Persona 5 vs Tales of Berseria video, it should be understood that both games create character relationships through relatively different methods. Persona 5 bonds their characters through explicit exposition while Tales of Berseria connects their characters through implicit exposition. Regardless of which exposition technique is used, the best way to bond characters is with subtlety, or else the character connections feel fake. Persona 5's cutscenes are an example of how you can ruin the sense of immersion by not being subtle, while the Tales of Berseria cutscenes use subtlety to bond their characters in a riveting demeanor that ends up adding more to the characters and the character relationships in the long run. Although the primary goal of this video is to demonstrate how to bond your characters correctly, this video can be also a good resource for learning how to write characters as I go over explicit and implicit exposition.

For as flawed of a game as Berseria is, it still manages to be one of my favorites. Most of that has to do with the character interaction. I struggle to find other games that hit the same way for me when it comes to that for whatever reason. I loved it enough that I even translated the drama CD 😅 I mean, I feel even Berseria had moments where it could have used more subtlety, but it definitely had a lot of great scenes that did it right. I love that you chose to highlight the scene with Eizen and Rokurou drinking together. The was a standout for me too. Anyway, looking forward to your longer video on Berseria! There aren't many out there that go into this level of detail.

Forgot to mention that the longer Berseria video is currently being worked on. It's still in the first third of editing but hopefully it'll be out by the end of the summer. ;)
Well I just came across your video on a whim and.......more people talking and acknowledging Tales of Berseria's existence AND see that it is a soild game is what I live for as a fan of the Tales series and the fact that Berseria is one of my favorites! In other words, if you will be doing a video on ToB, then I will be sure to check it out! Not a bad video comparing the 2 games and how they each do character development for their groups in different ways!
ngl, Berseria is one of my favorite games of all time just because of the character development and interactions. I feel like it doesn't get near the praise it deserves, mostly because of the graphics when everyone expected it to push the new, at the time, PS4 hardware. The story is so good, I even bought the manga

Tales of Xillia is the only Tales game I beat and I loved that game. I’ve heard it’s the best Tales game, though, and I doubt that any of the other Tales games will be as fun to me. Not even the sequel.

Xillia fan, a man of culture. :) I really need to get to work on my Xillia vid- Anyways, the opinion on the best Tales game is insanely varied. It largely boils down to a fan's nostalgia for a Tales game (which seems to be your case, as well) and that's a double-edged sword for the fandom. It's nice that there's a variety of opinions, but Tales fans also seem to be outspoken about what they consider to be their favorite Tales game, though to be fair [from my experience] the fandom is civil enough to listen to and respect opinions from different people. Heck, I remember feeling the same way as you did after I played Tales of Symphonia; that no game could top it, not even other Tales games, but then I played Abyss, Xillia, Xillia 2, and Berseria and they all ended up surpassing Symphonia for me (though I still love Symphonia). I'd say give the other Tales games a fair trial, and if they don't end up as good as Xillia 1 for you, that's okay.

Luke from abyss is my favorite protagonist, he has the best lead char development in the whole series imo. However in terms of story I gotta say vesperia was my favorite of all, Yuri is also my 2nd fav protagonist.👌

@@JonathanFrostathan yay, I’m planning on playing them. I bought a few of them for pretty cheap when they where on sale and I’m not one to compare experiences to the point that I let it ruin my fun. I like to judge things as standalone games. Thank you though.

Xillia got me into the Tales series. As of me typing this, it's sad that out of all the Tales games, Xillia is not on Steam for some reason.. :(
