My family's favourite dessert. Easy to prepare. Barley, ginkgo nuts and fu chuk (bean curd sheets) are easily available. Consuming hot or cold, this ginkgo barley dessert is yummy and nutritious. Taste like soy milk but with ginkgo and barley. This is one of the barley recipes which is good for health.

    Hi auntie Can you make real tau fu fa Soft and smooth with brown sugar ginger pandan syrup. My daughter ask me to do i dont no how to cook. i want to cook 4 person eat. Can auntie soy me how to do. Now i waiting u reply me ok thanks 😊

    Hi Cooking and food. Thanks for your help. you are so kind i from Malaysia. Some time i boil barley ginkgo fu for my children drink like auntie do. Evertime i boil is failed. Not same like auntie do. My children very like drink this. But auntie but alkaline water soack fu chuk got smell or not. So thanks for auntie help.

    Hi Cheong Siow keong. There is no smell in the alkaline so don't worry. Try boiling barley using this method. Just let me know if you are successful or not. Wishing you all the best.

    @@cookingandfood123 meaning that wash fuchuk soak in alkaline water in basin for how long before poring it into pot for boiling? My failed despite I soak the fucok in boiling water to soften it but once boiled it turn rubber & non dissolved at all. I failed cooking this dessert for many occasions. Hope you my advise.

    @@joteowee Hi Joanne Teo, thanks for your feedback. Fu chuk will never be dissolved in boiling water. It will become rubbery like you said. You have to soak the fu chuk in alkaline mix with a bit of tap water in a basin for about 30 minutes. Then wash the fu chuk which has changed colour with tap water. Wash it 2 or 3 times gently because it will break up easily. Then when your barley is boiling with the pandan leaves, add this dissolving fu chuk into the barley. Allow it to boil for about 45 minutes until all the fu chuk has dissolved. Remove the pandan leaves before adding sugar. After that, let it simmer for another 20 minutes. Then your barley is ready.

    Hi cooking and food How to boil barley ginkgo fu chuk. i first time boil fu chuk not same like auntie. i want to try put alkaline water soack fu chuk how many drop do i put. You cook how many little water. and how many pieces fu chuk you use. Barley is 2 pack i like use rock sugar about how many gram. Auntie please reply me ok thanks

    Hi, Cheong Siow keong. Thanks for your question. I am here to help you. I use 7 liters of water to boil my barley in a big pot. I use 2 packets of barley (100 grams per packet). That means I use 200 grams of barley. Fu chuk, I use 70 grams. You soak the fu chuk in a basin of water. Just enough water to cover the fu chuk. Then add 2 tablespoons of alkaline water into the soaked fu chuk in the basin of water. Mix the alkaline water in the water. Soak it for 20 minutes. Then take out the fu chuk and wash it in a basin of tap water. When your barley boils, (put pandan leaves and ginkgo nuts), you put in the fu chuk. Boil slowly for 1 hour. Then put in your rock sugar. Then you taste for sweetness. Simmer the barley for another 10 minutes, then your barley is ready. Hope you will be more successful in boiling the barley this time.
