How To Blow Up On Threads

Last week Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, was launching Threads, an app for sharing text and public conversations.
Seen as a direct rival to Twitter, Threads had more than 30 million users sign up in the first 24 hours.
In this video I discuss how to grow on this brand new platform.

👇 ABOUT ME:
Hey! I’m Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is de ply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
When I was 18, I was signed to a major label and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!
I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my KZread channel - I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, KZread channel and Social Agency.
It’s great to meet you and looking forward to working together on your music!

"Be yourself" and "be authentic" this is the only advice that I've ever heard from people talking about growing on social media or growing music, and it's never worked, and I can say it doesn't work for most people. It's all luck, you do you and can't worry about results because there may be nothing to show for it and you have to be OK with that unfortunately

Downloaded Threads day one! I jumped on the bandwagon BUT there is no Thread of organic reach lol. No hashtags. If you aren't following someone, there is no way to find their content or profile organically. If Meta addresses this then it may be a good way to "blow up" since it is a new platform BUT it's not a new platform if all your Instagram followers and everything carry over. Threads is just a companion app to Instagram that allows text posts.

I'm not gonna be using Threads. For starters, it's not available in the EU yet. But it also looks extremely shady, with all the information The Zuck is asking people to hand over without getting anything of value in return (medical information, anyone?). If the EU governments manage to force The Zuck to only gather the amount of data that is technically needed, I might join, but until then, I'm staying off. Besides, I'm not having any success on Twitter. What would make anyone think I'd have any success on a suspiciously similar platform? Seems like a waste of time.

Too many people think they can create music, but so few can actually make it happen. This causes the average listening audience to dismiss new artists, because they too “think” they’re also an artists, musician, etc. This is similar to concert goers changing from being part of the audience to thinking they were part of the show. I was present during this paradigm shift. In other words, playing air guitar will never be the same as actually playing guitar, especially in a band or on recordings. To understand why we are in this strange musical territory, we need to look back and understand why. Social media, record companies, Napster and now streaming is only part of the equation. Anyone who unlocks this conundrum will probably become an overnight millionaire. I just want to rock and never gave up, but I have seen enough change to choke a horse.

Early Twitter always felt like there was a barrier between you and everyone else, as opposed to Facebook and MySpace. I think that might have been a factor in what made Twitter toxic - "this is the ME show", "these are MY opinions" (along with the character limit, attention economy negativity bias, and more factors I'm sure) But Threads is hitting the ground seeming more open, looking a bit like Reddit to me, and as Damian says, connecting us instantly with our Insta community... Not a bad start... Great advice as ever! Thank you 🙏 Still don't love any of this, but we've got to play the game ay 💪😬🎶

Gary Vee: "I wake up at 5 o'clock in the morning on a Saturday after working 90 hours a week.." What he fails to mention is his 90 hour work week in most likely 7 days/week. What Gary Vee really meant to say was: "I wake up at 5 o'clock in the morning on a Saturday after working 90 hours a week, and I realized, I'm DIY. I should hlisten to Damian Keyes and start becoming an LIY". Nothing wrong with DIY if you are able to do it. But maybe, in this case, "If Gary Vee had gone straight to Damian Keyes, this would never have happened". Let's see who gets that reference.
