👇 ABOUT ME:
Hey! I’m Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is de ply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
When I was 18, I was signed to a major label and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!
I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my KZread channel - I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, KZread channel and Social Agency.
It’s great to meet you and looking forward to working together on your music!

I like that you acknowledged that people are basically releasing songs before they are ready.

Songs are ready when the artist thinks they are ready. Every other judgement is a music industry creation put in place to make money.

I've ran into many that believe their songs need to be perfect. Therefore they never end up producing anything. "You can only fail if you never try, don't let fear control your life".

My songs will never be finished. I release when I feel they are good enough, other wise I will work on a song for a decade and it still wont be perfect
I don't presave - agreed it is an unneeded step in the flow of new music. Put it out and you can market it anytime after it is available is the way to go. I have started getting into video lately - I know you said the music video is dead but I think video is coming back as a more engaging way to experience your favourite artists. Just getting started myself so I always appreciate your videos!

Yes, really love seeing long form organic content from you Damian, really helpful practical advice, and love the honesty and authenticity of the discussion in this video
Cheers! and very grateful for longer content, Happy holidays
Omgosh! Thank you very much! ❤ I’ve been banging my head against the wall on this issue! ❤
Great advice about the 100 songs. This year, I have written, recorded and filmed myself making 276 songs/demos so far. I'm trying to get to 300 by 2024. It was day 160 when I had a video blow up and I got 30k followers on TikTok and 500k views. I'm still learning as I'm going on but I'm starting to learn how I can use my super powers to stick out. Thanks Damo for the great advice!
Awesome! Thank you for this!
Love the detail off the video and very inspiring. Much love brotha
Really enjoyed this video, so helpful! Thank you for this and for your channel!!
LOVE IT THANK YOU!!! yupp. really like this long form once or twice a month would be awesome!
Love this video! Thank you for sharing your advice! ♥
The thing with the album in this day and age is that a lot of musicians still regard it as a bundle that must be delivered as a complete package in one go, even if that isn't even how it was historically done. My theory is that you can absolutely create a body of work on the framework of an album and have an actual album in your catalog at the end of a year of 18 month period, BUT you treat it as a "season" in a series. The album concept gives you a focussed aesthetic for designs (artwork, backdrops, stage props etc.), themes and sounds for the songs and social media posts. Each song can be a single (doesn't have to be) with cover art and spotify canvas that is consistent and tied together until the album is fully released, after 6-10 monthly singles, or maybe you release the full album on bandcamp but drip it out as singles on the streaming platforms. The Album is your (band's) aesthetic for the next 6 months or a year or 2. It's basically another level of Batch Creation like Damian advices for social media content. You can do it over the course of a month and while it all drips out you can already start planning and designing the next one.

Thanks for the video Damian. Great info as always and love the form!
Thank you Damian. I appreciated hearing your advice on making daily content.
Yes, I love the new form of content...Hearing you talk about and go into detail about stuff I wonder about all the time is great...Keep It Up
I enjoyed long form video! Would love to see more! Thanks!
The roadblock I run into all the time is startup capital and pragmatic time... whilst on paper I have time, realistically having a gruelling 7:00-5 job ruins any sense of productivity for evenings. My strength is the number of songs I write in a short space of time, and live performance. But to perform live I need money for equipment, and (to make it the best show for an audience) other musicians. It feels like such a slow grind that its de-motivating
Great episode. Love the long form
Love this long form unedited style! Helps me connect with your thought process better, and also is really helpful for me to spend longer immersed in listening and thinking about this topic. There's more time for me to come up wth ideas and reorganise my thoughts and intentions to motivate me to take action on what you're sharing. Thanks for the video!!

I really love your style!! Tell it like it is baby!! Very informative and articulate! Bravo
Thank you for this video. You have given me alot to consider.
Again an amazing video, Damo. Thank you!
Honestly one of your best vide (for sure top 3). Your 23 days single and 6 month album are my other favorites but here you gave all the info from them and touch other topics but in a crash course.
The most realistic perspective to modern music ❤ Thanks for the insight
This was great! Thanks Damian! I loved it. I didn't listen to the whole thing, but skipped to the questions that was relevant for me.
Thanks Damian! I definitely appreciate the longer video 🧡
Just thought I’d say good on ya, watched it all. Probably will revisit tomorrow as it brought up some really specific thoughts.
I've watched dozens (scores?) of your videos & this is one of the best. Definitely like the long-form; recognised myself in some of your 'don't do this' examples, laughed & decided to shape up in 2024. About time; but gimme a break, I'm only 77...👀
Absolutely class video! Breaking it down to the finest details and most importantly, to the areas that need action and persistence.
thanks for the advice and well thought out explanations
Absolutely incredible video. Thanks so much. You are a master demister. ❤
I loved every second of this! Thank you for your time!!!!

Amazing, thank you!
Love the long form!!
extremely educative! thanks!
There's no urgency for music like it was before 20, 30 even 40 years ago, cause there's so many other priorities for consumers right now in time. Music will always be there waiting. Always. And it's been like this since dawn of It. So that's why you dont feel the need of It. Cause nobody Will stole your time, your artistry, your talents, your songs, your visión, your concept and every other Word we like to write, produce, compose, etc. Just do the f*cking songs first, then you'll be able to get another step. And that's the way It goes. Be worried about getting yourself a Happy new year 2024, then go back to music, It Will be there waiting for you. Be happy, be blessed and be loved. 🎶🌎🧡🙌🏻😊
Thanks educational, understanding and comfortable to watch. Humorous at times, enjoyed 👍💯
very very nice! thanks for the video.
Thank you for your video. I appreciated hearing your thoughts on each of these subjects - all so important to those of us balancing between continually growing as an artist and also getting our music out to the world, with a goal of it becoming an income stream.

Golden and timely. Thanks Damian.

Definitely loved this form of video!
I enjoyed that! Quite literally a fireside chat. I am seated by the fire on a Friday night and, since i am considering releasing some more music and questioning what/how I am doing it, it was so relevant & engaging.. You have covered a lot of areas and answered a lot of my questions. It is such an ever-changing minefield & it is good to be able to connect with someone who is ' on the ball.' I loved the long form content as I felt I could settle into it. Thank you so much or your ongoing content, as a small artist, trying to work professionally, albeit at a 'hobby' level, you really have helped me so much so far.
Love all this information!
I love the long form style! Feels like a lot more value and easier to follow 👍 More of this please! Great education as always!

AMAZING video…really hit me. You really know how to put all the concepts and ideas and the real thing of how music industry works nowadays (particularly for the new ones like me) in a language that all can understand. Really like your video, your vibe, the way you talk, and of course I will look forward for more of this kind of videos. THANKS!
Hi Damian. I like the long form videos. Keep it up! Jon.

Great valuable content again Damian, thank you. The amount of people who come to me 'cos they look like I've got it sorted, who don't realise the sheer amount of work you have to put in is off the scale!! Looking for a contact, and then they think they've made it! I just share a link to your channel - it's the bomb!
Thank you so much for releasing videos like this. You have made my day!

Thanks for breaking it down for us Damian! I recently came across your videos and have been digging in deep. These simplified truths help artist focus on the important things to help them move forward without over complicating things and letting ego analyst. I am trying to help artist get started at a very early level. These videos help a lot! I do like the long form, I also like the short to the point videos that tackle one important subject.
I don't think I've ever commented on a video before, but feel the need to here. This was brilliant and I love the long form content. This feels more like mentorship than someone trying to scam me or sell me something, and it works a lot better... I feel way more inclined to support you now or sign up to learn more from you.
