I recently passed my driving test in my i-shift, Up until this point I've been using the auto box, now that i can drive on my own, I've wanted to better get to grips with the manual side of things in the car. This has been the best demonstration of how to do that!

Mine shifts at around 12mph from first to second. But I use the paddles to drive anyway. The one thing I don't like is if I'm in 2nd and I'm coming out a corner it shifts down to first and you can't turn that feature off. When it won't got up into a higher gear just leave it in that gear for best fuel economy. I find to stop the down shift put the car in neutral till you stop. When Changing gear take your foot off the accelerator in between each gear like it's a manual with clutch peddle as it's better for the clutch health on these cars apparently. In a semi automatic ur not supposed to take your foot of accelerator when gear is being changed this is bad as the car stutters because it’s not built to have a clutch

I've got this gear box also 2007 civic 1.8 best way to to use the ishift auto is everytime you hit 2.500/800 revs just let go of the gas it goes straight into the next gear... In the beginning it was horrible to drive but once i figured that out it always changes the gears and you don't even get that jerk every time it changes, its as smooth as a normal manual gearbox. Its basically the same concept just without clutch pedal on a normal manual you take your foot off the gas to press the clutch, this one you just let go off the gas and feel the subtle gear change..... This is only when you are driving normally like how you would drive a normal manual car not when racing , if want to race with it the gears will change at higher rpm can't tell you which rpm, it all depends on how hard you press the gas pedal but same applys just let go of the gas and it will change gear...

Thank you for this informative video. I can only use an auto box due to an accident damaged left leg. I want a Civic but noticed both the road tax and fuel economy are cheaper with iShift models, but do you think I should still get a full auto?

@delatronics3257 I'd say a full auto would be best - the ishift requires your attention for "smooth" performance but an auto won't, it'll be much easier to live with

@shahrukh akbar ah yes, reversing on an incline - it’s a pain if you’re used to having a clutch! You’ll get used to it, you have to try and balance it with the throttle. It’s not great for the clutch but that’s what you got to do

@@aSidney thx n based upon that I’ll stick to getting the manual. Got one but got crashed into by someone. Getting a next one now but with lower mileage as these civics are known to have gearbox issues on high mileage. Could only put mine in 3rd gear first 5 minutes in winter and spring. Summer ok lol. Got it on 150K. Done 46K more now. Cheers

@a.Sidney My clutch is worn on my ishift, only 90,000 Kms but I have to change it cos gears are slipping and going into neutral and also stalling. I will change the clutch, however I am thinking of using the paddles on the steering wheel from now on. Any advice? Also when I change gear should I keep my foot on the accelerator or lift my foot off for every gear change? I heard that lifting your foot off the accelerator each time on gear change can damage the clutch. Any thoughts?

@Mark Système personally I don't like using the paddles because they feel terrible - I much prefer using the shifter. I don't know how lifting off the accelerator could damage the clutch, I'd suggest not doing so would damage the clutch as you effectively ride the clutch while its changing gear. I think lifting off the accelerator is better for the clutch as well as shifting smoothly

This is a very misunderstood gearbox. The best way of thinking about it is that this is a manual with automated gear change (like you say). Lags between shifts are the same as if you would change gears manually. Yes, it is slower that dsg or torque converter, but is much more simple and reliable and needs no service. Once you get used to it - you can really love it.

It’s similar to MMT that Toyota used in some models,it’s really awful. You never used to it because it can hesitate specially when you stop start at traffic/ junctions which is extremely annoying and even dangerous. The VW developed DSG is 100% superior.(I had both).all DSG needs is gearbox fluid change each 80K.many people neglect this,then come and cry why their gearbox is damaged.

You've got a technical problem somewhere. I have the same 2007 iShift and it changes up around 2,200 rpm, which is about right. I really don't like the iShift, the gear changes are jerky and sluggish, and reversing into a tight parking space is a nightmare, but it does basically change gear when it should. Yours is pretty wonky, it needs looking at.

ive heard letting go of the gas before a gear change like u would let go of the clutch with a manual helps, it switches gears nice and smooth

yes it does have sport mode when you put it on manual and let it shift gears by itself using the whole tachometer. the automatic mode is like comfort mode. and you can change how and when gears is going to shift but only service can do this i think i hate when i push throttle and after 2-3 seconds car starts driving... its wery dangerous when you want to squeeze somewhere i shift burns the clutch.. whats the point of this i shift system then if people still use manual in it????

Not really a Sport mode, more like a safety feature for the gearbox and the engine. Keep using it as a "sport mode" and you'll be in for a clutch replacement (believe me, I know what I'm talking about)

Hi silly question mate but how the hell do I put this in P mode to Park. I just bought this car and done see P like on standard autos. Do I leave stick om neutral or reverse on dead centre???

@Isa Lee there's no park mode with this gearbox - it's not really an auto per say, more like an automated manual. You just need to to leave it in neutral and then apply the hand brake

Seems very similar to the rubbish MMT gearbox Toyota used in Yaris,Aygo and Auris.. awful systems (I had one) on the other hand,the DSG automatic gearbox that Volkswagen used (still used) in Golf/Polo/Audi of is night and day difference so much better.

My car broke down last week due to the dreaded P0810 actuator issue. The way it is, every single i-shift owner will experience it one day or another. The fact that Honda doesn't offer any service for the actuator but will charge you thousands to replace it is outrageous.

@@Luke.Skywodka 120k km. I followed the instructions I saw on many KZread tutorials (including dozens of Russian tutorials), where I replaced the carbon brushes of my actuator (mine were dead). The problem disappeared and the car starts again, but I'm not sure yet that it's fixed until I can fill the fluid and bleed it properly

@@Luke.Skywodka yes, but the problem has nothing to do with oil, it's carbon brushes subject to normal wear inside the actuator

Dude, this has been discussed a Million times over on CIVINFO i.e. Yes, its better to manually change. Remember: Its really an intelligent manual gearbox. The downside is you cant use Selective gear changing
