How To Become A Man Nobody Can F*ck With | Jiu Jitsu Legend Rickson Gracie

Check out Rickson Gracie’s new book “Breathe” here: bit.ly/3k541lI
Reaching your full potential is a pursuit worth going for regardless of your goals for life, business or relationships. You will have so many options and opportunities in life to become extraordinary, the only question is how and what’s stopping you. Rickson Gracie is a living legend with over 450 wins in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As much of a warrior he has become over the years as a 9th degree red belt, he is also kind, spiritual, and connected in mind and body. His story represents what is achievable when you control your mind, your body, and your spirit. He shares the importance of the breath and what it takes to be uncomfortable, seek out discomfort and learn to master and control yourself in that discomfort. Though you may not be on a mission to become a jiu jitsu competitor, you will still benefit from the lessons shared by Master Rickson Gracie in this episode.

QUOTES:
“Martial arts gives you tools. The tools are connection, base, deflection, strategy, emotional control, the capacity for you to use visualization, and other elements.” [5:44]
“So just being prepared, just being talented is not enough. Just being able to focus and be strategically correct is not enough. I have to have the spirituality to say today is a great day to be in a battle.” [9:04]
“I was accepting death in order to be comfortable in hell.” [9:28]
“I noticed my worst enemy at this point was my own mind, playing tricks on me. It tells me I don't have enough, tells me I was tired, tells me that I’m [gonna lose]. So my mind was completely against my purpose.” [14:24]
“I cannot be just a jiu jitsu teacher, I had to be a psychologist. Because I have to approach a guy who stands insecure in a different way, than approach a guy who's just lazy and completely off.” [36:08]
“The real learning of your breathing system is to learn how to maximize your hyperventilation, to cope with the activities you plan to do.” [39:17]
“If you try to hide the emotions from yourself, and try to show everybody you're okay, you're just making a patch which is not working. So I have to feel weak and completely vulnerable.” [41:29]
“Today my day is based on what I can do best to make my best day today.” [44:41]
“What was my biggest lost becomes my biggest sign of how I should do to have a happy life” [45:54]
“Nobody could make me what I am if I was not focused and passionate about it.” [47:42]
“I was seeking for things that were giving me chills and emotions and I love to play with nature, because nature is unbreakable, nature is stronger.” [52:22]
“That sparring session can be very positive for some warriors, but can be jeopardizing a lot of guys were not designed to fight” [58:29]

@Owi Owi I agree with you on most of your statements, I believe a vegan diet is healthier than one that includes meat, but unfortunately we can't change thousands of years of evolution, evolution where our ancestors were fed with meat now our system depends of meat to grow ok, yes i understand that nowadays most products are full of garbage like hormones, but the proof of what I'm saying is that I have met many vegan people and none of them look healthier than those who eat meat, most of those people look weak and fragile. I was a skinny guy when I grew up and always wanted to gain some weight and while at military boarding school I had a friend who used to read and know a lot about diets and used to tell me how some veggies were full of protein he even traded his meat meals for those veggies, during our 3 years at school together I never saw him gaining more than 2-3 kgs of muscle or mass I personally kept my diet with meat, lots of tortillas, and potatoes, and that helped to go from 59 kg to 82 kg during the same 3 years, not a single pound of fat, ever since I kept one rule in my life, for example while going to the gym and I have some skinny or chubby trainers coming to me and telling how to do and exercise, "don't ever listen to someone smaller (I dont mean this in the de-meaner way) than myself", same rule applies to diets, but this is just my personal opinion and experience, I did tried going vegetarian but never worked for me couldn't mantain my desire weight.

@Owi Owi dude I took a look at your KZread playlists, if your vegan diet is so good why does your life and health look so miserable? Why Your playlists are filled with so many "how to cure" this and that mental and physical diseases? Or Is that your so called "education"? You are the clear example of what I've been talking about, people that supposedly know everything about nutrition but their own health is clearly the worst. I can only feel sorry for you dude, seriously get some professional help.

Beyond being an incomparable champion, Master Gracie is a truly great teacher. As a Yoga breathing teacher, I can tell by taking one look at Tom that, above all else, he needs to learn how to breathe. (This observation is supported in a number of other interviews in which Tom talks about the importance of getting plenty of sleep.) Master Gracie brought up the importance of breath twice; when Tom showed no interest, he effortlessly went with whatever direction Tom set. I am totally awestruck by this man. Totally awestruck.

I have never heard such a powerful message in my life. It felt as if every word he spoke changed me...as if he was actually able to speak to my soul. I've never felt so I'm tune....like this is exactly what I needed to hear exactly when I needed to hear it. It's a level of enlightenment I've never witnessed/felt. It just made sense to my head, to my heart and to the parts of me that I rarely even let myself access. Thank you Master Rickson you have lightened my life today. I only hope I can start to follow the knowledge I have just attained. 🤗

Such an incredible interview. One of my favorite episodes. I hung on to his every word. Rickson is a true warrior in every sense of the word. I was so inspired... especially by the opening fight story where he could have easily hurt his opponent but chose a more graceful approach.

Great interview Tom! It is wonderful to see you being interviewed here Rickson Gracie. Legend! What you said about feeling yourself deeply. The direct connection between the brain and the heart is fascinating. It it such a gift yet a powerful tool that you have mastered. Amazing. My uncle was Jujitsu world champion many moons ago - Paul Lloyd -Davies. Do you remember him? I remember him breaking a brick in half when I was six, at the dinner table. ;.P. Look after yourself. May you continue to be blessed.

BJJ changed my life. It is arena of humility and constant growth. That and surfing. Those two hobbies have been phenomenal vehicles to challenge, growth and confidence. If you’re a cocky person or full of yourself, see how long that lasts on the mats or in the ocean.

Tom, this was one of your best interviews ever. "His" life lessons are lessons that everyone can learn and especially those that are in business. Him not quitting in those situations where his life could have ended is amazing. Him going home and being rolled up in the carpet so he would know how to deal with certain situations in competition was a learning lesson for me. Thank you for such a great guest & interview!
