    I think I may owe you a big Thank You! I decided to go after the account manager position so I consumed my time with your channel. I just received the offer yesterday! Now, very fitting as I don’t have experience. What I did was take the initiative. I scheduled my interview with my new boss. I emailed him the calendar invite over zoom. I followed through. I sent thank you letters. I talked about what he needed and how I was going to get him there. I hyperventilated a bit thinking I was over my head and that’s when I would return to your videos. I wanted it. I had a strategy and I went for it.

    @@kamcoach it was good...but there concern was why i am interested in business team while i am working in a product team. Since they were looking someone who has business experience they didn't consider my application. However i believe it's not the case for everyone...🤔

    Oh that's a shame. So disappointing when you're in that "can't get the job without the experience, can't get the experience without the job" loop. You're time will come. I have 20+ years experience as a PM, Agile Coach and a few years of customer facing experience in one job. I also started up my own weed growing and distribution operation, finding all my own customers. I can't put that experience on my CV, unfortunately. Is there KAM positions in the Cannabis IT industry. I would like a job working for an IT company that caters to Cannabis companies. I know everything about weed and computers and I am quite funny in real life. I can also take a verbal lashing and act as a punching bag. Anyway. I will join your course soon and take some classes. I want a legit job where I can travel a bit.

    The global cannabis/cbd is set to explode. With it's medical, wellness applications it could triple in the next 3 years. So it sounds like you could be on a winner in terms of an industry. My advice would be to research the markets (see prohibitionpartners.com/reports/ for some free global and regional reports). Find out what's trending and start to follow companies in the space. It's still in it's infancy with a lot of legislation hurdles and social issues. For example, in the US, legalisation of marijuana is state-by-state which is really hampering growth (e.g. edibles are legal in Colarado, but not Texas). I'm sure there's a way to bring your experience into this industry, but you'll just need to put the work into learn more about it and to target the right companies.

    Great video! my only concern is if it's really necessary to cater each resume sent to different job descriptions? I feel this is a bit overkill and one would be better served networking through LinkedIn applying to more jobs?

  • @kamcoach

    Hi Matthew. If you're CV is getting you job interviews, then I wouldn't worry. But if you're struggling to get through to the first round, then it could be that it's not clear how your experience is relevant to the role. This is especially true when you're trying to change industries or professions. Only a few years ago I applied for 60 jobs without a single interview. But I just uploaded the same version of my CV each time and was applying for anything I was remotely qualified for. So my advice is apply for only the jobs you really want, take the time to tweak your CV before you apply (you don't have to re-write it - often changing some words or updating achievements is all it needs). It's a pain I know.

    Thanks for all the advice! I have just started to look for this kind of job, as it sounds interesting. But if you lack the experience, pointing at myself hehe. Isnt it better to apply for just as an account manager? If i understand this correcly, isn´t a bit the same role but more demanding as an Key account manager?

  • @kamcoach

    @kamcoach

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Kobbz - it depends on where you're at in your career. If you're just starting out then focus on more entry level account management jobs. But if you have a some more senior professional experience behind you, especially anything customer facing, like sales, business, development, customer success etc, then you should have a lot of transferrable skills that would make you an attractive candidate for key account management.

    Thanks for your answer. I think i will aim for customer service over phone and mail. It seems like those works have less requirements, and also more simple account manager jobs as you said. I have also applied for an Key account manager education, i might start after the summer and it will look great on my CV :)

    I have been working at a company for 2.5 years now and one of the AM's has had to resign due to personal reasons and there is an opening. I know all the software we use, I am good at solving problems and like order and analysis. I don't have any direct sales experience. Should I apply for the role?

  • @kamcoach

    @kamcoach

    Ай бұрын

    Absolutely you should. I always say there's a long way from applying for a job to getting an offer and accepting it, so why talk yourself out of it? You'll have an advantage as an internal candidate who's familiar with the business and the product, plus skilled at problem solving - which is a quality clients are looking for in the account managers. So I say GO FOR IT!!!

    Hi Kesara, sounds like a similar role, but often there's still room to get promoted e.g Key Account Manager to Senior Key Account Manager
