    Let me explain the lore as to why they're really here: A few years ago they all asked their math teacher: "When will we use this?" Annoyed, their teachers got together and created this room. Then they kidnapped them and placed them inside.

    I mean, it's not unlikely you'd be hesitant about stepping out of the box. The box sucked, but do you really know what's waiting for you outside? Most people would stop and take stock with their buds before stepping out, I think that's more normal than not.

    I think a way that Holloway could've survived her death was to scream when Quinton was about to betray her so that the others could hear and know what was happening. If she died, nobody would trust Quinton anymore, because they would all think that he was the murderer, but I guess it was kind of late when she realized what he was about to do.

    They did eventually. The problem is that you can't just get rid of people in this scenario, due to the physical constraints of the cube. You can't plan anything, because Q will be suspicious of whispering and shit. You can't run away because the doors take time to open, plus you have to take the time to determine which rooms are safe as you're trying to create distance. It's much easier for someone to catch up to you than it is for them to run away in the cube. You could of course fight, but Q is (by his words) a police officer, so he's fit and trained in combat, so 3/4 people who haven't been in a fight before would not be able to take him down. That's not to mention that one of the most important members of the group for getting out of the cube at the end is mentally impaired, so they couldn't leave him behind. They did eventually, but it was a struggle, and required Q to let his guard down.

    The coordinate ( 0, 0, 0 ) CANNOT be the centre of the maze. Why? Because then we would need negative numbers, like the room ( -3, 2, -6 ). The fact that we have only positive numbers means the ( 0, 0, 0 ) point is one of the corners of the big cube. You add the numbers, for example: 325 256 112 -> ( 10, 13, 4 ) -> this cube sits ten cubes towards the back, 13 to the right and is located in the 4th "level" of the structure.

    I absolutely love this movie. Because we get no external answers, and everything is so contained in one cube at a time, it really forces the actors and the writers on developing character and story. However, it was surprising that you did not mention the prisons each character was named after. And, being that it is in my state, I flinched every time you mispronounced Leaven (unleavened bread, Leavenworth, KS) 😂.

  • @Manticorpse

    @Manticorpse

    At that point they dont know its shifting around, so always taking the rightmost safe option while additionally marking their way (scratches on doors, left over clothes, blood drops, etc..) could navigate them around without repeating rooms or going randomly in a direction. At least they'd know then if they had been there before.

    @@Manticorpse yeah but the breadcrumb strategy is not the same as hugging the wall, which is not even a 100% guaranteed to work specially if you are unknowingly dropped in the middle of a maze with no reference to which is an exterior wall or if the walls are connected. Furthermore 🧐 the explination is given to us as viewers from the perspective of someone who has already seen the movie and written a script so it doesn't make sense to explain to us a tip that is irrelevant after all. The funny thing is that Worth could have completely avoided suspicion of the others by telling them that he works as a normal Architect/draftsmen, who draws building plans, without mentioning that he designed the outer shell of the Cube itself. That would have given him a more apparent and believable purpose/function within the group and not make him seem like the odd one out.

    Movies like this are not about perfect logic, if that were the case, it would be more interesting to just do a puzzle or watch someone do one. The drama and entertainment is a combination of interesting traps and premise, along with characters being fundamentally flawed to create conflict. Watching "real" humans overcome tough situations is what gives these movies entertainment value, not everyone being a perfect logic machine. It's like how in Death Note, Light would've won if he just didn't kill fake L on TV, but his Ego made him do it. His Ego in that show is a core part of his character and drives a lot of the narrative.

    The literal answer is suspension of disbelief/the movie makers didn't want to focus on minutiae like that. The in-universe answer would probably be that each trapped room has sensors detecting the location, size, and weight of anything in the room, and would actually have acid sprayers hidden behind every square panel of the room. It would likely be able to adjust the spraying location and direction as needed.

    6:10 They can't go straight up for a long time. You need to factor in the fact that there is no practical ladder, and the methods to get to the hatch are not optimal. They can stand on each other's shoulders to reach the hatch, but since they have different heights and strengths, even if they open the hatch they need to get everyone through it and it's gonna be very hard. Climbing using the handles is not much better, because fatigue will kick in very fast, thus requiring longer and longer periods of rest. The brain will "shutdown" at some point, to prevent injuries to the body. They could also raise someone on their shoulders and have them hang on to the handles, but this leaves one man behind, that needs to go up. Going down can also be a bad idea, because if you enter a room and is somehow rigged in such way that trap avoidance is impossible, it's harder to try and escape it via the the way you entered, as opposed to having a lateral hatch that's easier to get to. Taking time to open a lateral hatch can be your doom. You also need to get down in a way that's safe for your feet, and if they all use their boots to test the rooms, they're bare feet, and more prone to sole injuries, especially since they're basically landing on the handle of the opposing hatch. Sure, you can swing to try and land sideways, but it's not optimal and you could be dead before even getting to let go.

    I believe the right hand rule does not work in a maze when you are dropped in the middle as you may be on a disconnected set of walls. It does work on start end mazes. Ren was soaponified which is actually a base reaction (like opposite of acid) where fat turns to soap. Think fight club. It is a weirdly specific detail vs acid like in the Mummy.

    Another helpful hint is if the number ends with a number 5, then its not prime since it can be divided by 5. Dont really have to worry about 9 since you can use the rule for divisible by 3 (3*3 = 9) similarly with 2, 4, 6, 8. Divisible by 7 is a bit tricky.

    Fun fact: the first cut of this film, that actually had a limited release in theaters, included an additional scene at the end where the cube is revealed to be on another planet and so most likely built by aliens. That being said, I'm glad they cut that scene. I much prefer not knowing and my favorite theory about this film is that the cube is actually the purgatory. They don't remember how they got there because they all died. If you manage to get out, you enter heaven.

  • @misterwhyte

    @misterwhyte

    @@mykeday It doesn't debunk anything because: 1. none of the people who worked on Cube worked on its sequels (they were made by greedy studios), therefore we can easily ignore them and 2. there's nothing preventing anyone from analyzing a movie as a stand alone, especially when it wasn't designed to have sequels in the first place. And if you really want to focus exclusively on what the original writers had in mind, then the original ending on another planet gives you all the explanation you need.

    What ever missed is that Quentin had already killed most of his first group that’s why his hands are bloody. One of them escaped Han he is looking for them, probably Rennes. That is why he grabs Holloway in the beginning and is surprised when he finds out who she is. Also that explains why Rennes act so odd and cuts an evil eye towards Quentin when they meet. What happened to them is similar to the rest of the movie with Quentin forcing them to check the rooms for him.

    In as delicate a situation as it were, I'd discourage Leaven from stopping at such a revelation as "prime numbers". I'd definitely ask if there were anything else those numbers 'could' be, even despite realistic expectations. On the note of "Would you wait around to see what the smart kid does?", Rennes could've noted the numbers himself. To achieve the level of renown as he did for escape, he has to have known something. Knowing the rooms were trapped, he definitely could've tried a little harder searching for a pattern regarding those numbers. Maybe even to the point of discovering the very nature of the cube- particularly, I would assume he's privy to the sounds indicitive of a mechanism in place capable of taking prisoners from A to B. They seriously didn't wonder if the rumbling and the quaking was anything important? They could hear Kazan yelling across rooms, but themselves moving from one place to another proved difficult... Anyway- Rennes dropped the ball, first and foremost. He had the most experience at that point. In the event that he didn't know what a prime number was, he had 4 other sources for information he could've been using.

    One more thing to metion is that going up or down is harder. They cant afford to waste energy or time, so going left or right is the best option. You would be extrra careful around rooms with the same color as trapped rooms? To be fair there is not a single sane human being that wont do that instinctively without having to think about it. How would you know, you have to dive to avoid a trap? What if the trap is on the ground? Diving would mean death. It is easy to comment with hindsight. Even if you know how large the cube is, it still does not make much sense to go down. Why would you really, so it oculd potentially be easier, when you reach the exit? If you dont reach the exit, you have wasted a lot of energy for nothing. If you go forward and reach the exit, it might even be easier to go down after. Also i would not believe that this massive structure is floating, so going down would likelly not lead to an exit. She should not have trusted the cop? Ok, she should have just dropped, way easier right? Your idea how to deal with the cop after is just too complecated and far fetched, especially for people in such a situation that are exhausted and thursty.
