    One important tip he made there take note if ur a busser be fast but never be so fast where u scare the customers. With that said these were helpful tips and I'll use them thx.

    Yeah. I like that. I know what you mean, when someone thinks that their job is “cleaning the table” instead of “cleaning the table FOR THE GUEST”. It’s like they just want to get done with the work, instead of wanting to help the customer.

    I worked as a busser for 15 years. (Too long, I know, BUT…) I LOVED that job. The tips in this video are spot on if you want to enjoy your work/move up to being a server. After being a server, I instantly knew all of the things I was doing that could have been improved. The two biggest things I want to second in this video is 1) Being helpful will make you liked by everyone, and 2) Your pace will make everything 10x better and more fun…yes, FUN! I prefer the term _pace_ instead of “fast” or “speed” because pace is a measure in terms of longevity in how quickly you can do things repeatedly. And yes, find a _quick but comfortable_ pace. Don’t literally work as fast as possible, but have a little pep in your step, walk with a purpose, find that balance between your movement speed while minimizing mistakes and not freaking everyone out and you’ve found your perfect pace! 👍

    I completely agree on your distinction between speed and pace. Definitely find that optimum spot. Fast, but without making any mistakes that could set you back and “undo” what you were trying to accomplish in the first place.

    Second day as a busser and I’d say I’m doing great! I quickly set up the guests with silverware and salsa. Check up on guests for chips, salsa, and refills. When I’ve got nothing to do or I see the server getting a little busy I ask him if he needs any help. Sometimes he’ll let me get the drinks for some tables but yeah cleaning is easy and I try my best to be as fast a possible. I always try to find something to do, if I’ve got absolutely nothing then I wrap some silverware. One thing I need to get better at is to find ways to be more fun to talk to I guess. I feel like I’m just repeating lines when talking to guests. Anyways I made $30 in tips my second day. It wasn’t even that busy in my section but I enjoy the work!

    I’d say the repetitive thing is kind of part of the job. But the things you say repeatedly should just be conversation starters. Stay interested in them and what they talk about and you won’t be saying the same things after that. Just keep it light and professional. I’d stay away from religion and politics at work. You never know what position the guest holds and it can get sticky QUICK if you get into those two areas. Food, fun, drinks. That should probably be your focus.

    I just got hired as a busser. I originally applied for the server position, but it had been filled, so they offered me the busser position and told me that I could work my way up to being a server (this is my first job too, so looking back on it, trying to get a position as a server was probably a bit unrealistic). But I’m super excited! I can’t wait to start work and just do my best to be a great employee. I really need the money.

    I tripped one time on the crate lmao! It was kind of funny though. I only lasted a day because my manager was a tyrant. Had an interview today and Idk if I'm gonna get the job but f it I'm gonna keep applying to busser/dishwashing positions I really like the job like that. I'm hoping I get this one job it's full time but crappy hrs although I do not care I really want a bussing and or dishwashing job but if I could choose the position it would be a bussing job because it's little interaction with the customers and for some reason I love bussing food. I'm hoping that another job gives me a chance. I'm bumbed I quit the last job and I don't think I did well on my interview I'm getting somewhat worried he said that he would let the higher up's know about me but that could either be a bad or good sign. Although I had one lady tell me that she liked me but then they never called back which I was bumbed about. I even have my food handler card now and spent hours on end getting it so I really want a job like this and close by if possible.

    I accidently bussed a table since no one was there, and they came back. It was my third day as a busser and I had to work fast since it was pretty busy. We had to replace their drinks. Do you have any tips to determine if a customer has for sure left the restaurant to not let this situation happen again? Thank you.

  • @Waiter101book

    @Waiter101book

    3 жыл бұрын

    That’s a good question. I’d say, if you didn’t see them paying their check, then you should ask the waiter if they have left. If you DID see them pay, then it’s probably safe to assume they left and did not just go the restroom or something. Also, how full are their drinks? Are they expensive drinks (wine, liquor, beer)? Or just water & soda? If they have full expensive drinks, then double check with the waiter, even if they paid.

    Old post: I worked as a busser Day 1 and I learned that a table is done is when the forks, napkins, and trash are piled on the table. Also, most often the guests are still sitting so obviously the table is still in use - don't bother.
