    Why would you everyday want to do that like?Why would you want to watch yourself?Open a door every day? Why would you want to be feeling your sheet every day. I could understand having times in your life that you want to be that conscience.But but you could be using your brain for so much more than turning a doorknob LO.L start a business or something. I might be missing the point like there's a time in a place for this.Maybe that's what you're saying I agree.If that's the case.

    The purpose isn't to actively think about everything we do. At that point, I don't think we'd truly be living. It's more about being conscious of the things we're doing versus living mindlessly. The point of this video is to share very practical ways we can train ourselves to do that. It's like learning how to drive. At first, you're actively checking the mirrors, making sure you're staying in your lane, you're thinking about how you're going to turn, etc. but one day you master driving and it becomes effortless. The same goes for living mindfully. I hope that clears things up😊

    This is so peaceful. I'm an anxious person and tend to be tense even when I'm just sitting. I'll clench my jaw, hunch my shoulders and my thoughts keep racing even though there's nowhere to be. In the end, I can't even remember what I did or ate or drank. I hope this year I am able to slow down at least a bit, and be more present. I live in a noisy city in India which seems to be always under construction. So many people rushing, rushing, rushing. I still hope I am able to find pockets of quiet. Thank you for the video!

    Any tips for ADHD brains? It feels like no matter how much I try I could never stop thinking. Some say that I should just stop stressing over “not thinking” and let go but that doesn't work cuz for someone who has ADHD overthinking is the default mode

  • @fatimasiddiqui1585

    @fatimasiddiqui1585

    11 ай бұрын

    @@-SimonRiley try practicing when you are in the least stressful situation. For example, right before falling asleep if you feel most peaceful in the nighttime. For me, it's easiest to get into the present moment when I'm showering, going to bed, walking in nature, and after work when I am most relaxed. Once you conquer this, you can more easily start using it in stressful situations as well. For your info, I don't have ADHD, but I've struggled with maladaptive daydreaming my whole life due to having a 'boring' life.

    @@fatimasiddiqui1585 OMG yes, maladaptive day dreaming is a huge obstacle in my day-to-day life. It can be triggered by literally anything. Like if I solve a very difficult maths problem I go into my head thinking of a whole story line of this poor boy whom everybody thought was a POS goes on to become a remarkable scientist and receives the Noble Prize lol. Before I realize I've gone into overthinking mode it's too late. I will certainly give a try to whatever you said, most likely it's not gonna work but hope for the best 🤞🏻

    I love this so much. I was always struggling to stay in the present moment and this definitely helped me. I also realized that this is quite literally one and only life we live and that time flies way too fast, so one day we will look back and regret that we didn`t enjoy it more. ``Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory`` Dr. Seuss.

    Calming and beautiful video vanessae thank you so much. Just one question I had. Don't you feel overwhelmed with the amount of sensory information you are taking in constantly? Sometimes I feel that my mind is heavy and clogged when I'm deliberately trying to get rid of the autopilot and feel the details of the present. It starts to feel clogged and heavy it's a weird feeling. Did you ever feel that?

    Thank you for your kind words💛 Yes, I can relate to what you're saying. What helps me is focusing on one sense at a time. For example, I'll close my eyes and simply pay attention to what I hear. Other times I'll specifically focus on the colors I see. It can seem a bit overwhelming in the beginning because it's a new way of seeing life, but it does get easier with time. Hope this helps!

    Great video, and it’s really cool how you consistently respond to comments even a year + later! My question is: I’m relatively new to meditation, but my biggest struggle with it is the idea that I feel like I won’t ever be able to think if I live this way. I fully acknowledge that I live way too much in the past and the future, but I also feel like it’s fun sometimes to reminisce about the past when I see something that reminds me of a fun memory, or I find it important to plan for major future events or anticipate with excitement something fun I have coming up. I assume you don’t completely cut these things out of your life 100%, so how do you live primarily in the present while still occasionally thinking about the future or the past? Do you set aside a time during the day to think about the future/past? Or do you just let it happen sometimes when those things come to mind, and at other times say “I need to be present right now” and ignore it?

    I had this question too when I started on this mindfulness journey. What I learned is that you can remain present even when you visit a memory of the past or plan for something in the future. The key is to not get lost in your thoughts about the past or future because when we start worrying, obsessing, ruminating, etc. we're no longer present. I hope this makes sense, but if not, here's a wonderful resource I think you'll find very helpful: kzread.info/dash/bejne/X4yY16qPYK_VZZc.htmlsi=MnkpFkD8_mGrrH0R

    Everyone always says, "be mindful. Practice mindfulness". But how? HOW?? Thank you so much for this wonderful video. Of course, we all know what the word means but it's kind of a hard concept to put into play. I really appreciate you taking the time to offer real world tips for being more mindful in daily life. I never thought to really stop and feel the texture of my moisturizer or really appreciate my tea as it steeps. You really broke it down and i do feel a bit better about trying to be more mindful while doing all those mundane tasks that we tend to take for granted. Thank you.

  • @iamvanessae

    Mindfulness is focused attention. When you're focusing on the task at hand, you're being mindful. In this example, you're attention would be on solving the math problem. I hope this helps💛

    First of all, I admire you for raising 3 children all by yourself. I'm not a mom, but I don't have to be to know that it's a tremendous amount of work. I applaud you for that👏🏼 Practicing mindfulness can be challenging, but I encourage you to find moments throughout your day to bring your attention to the present moment...even if that's just one minute or one conscious breath. These small moments make a big difference🙌🏼

    I just answered a very similar question in the comments and I explained that focusing on one sense at a time really helps me with that. For example, if I'm in nature I'll close my eyes and only pay attention to the sounds. Whatever activity you're doing, pick something to anchor your mind and let that be your entire focus. Let me know if this helps :)
