Ойын-сауық

It really is crazy how, if you can dig deep enough, so many major world events can be traced back to just one person just doing his job. People think that they probably won't be the one to change the world, but history has shown over and over again any one ordinary person can alter the course of our planet forever

Spain nearly had a von Hohenzollern on the throne, but it ended up not going through because a telegraph operator ended up mistyping the date and time of the coronation in a message to Prince Leopold, resulting in him not being there at his own coronation ceremony, to which the Spanish government decided to just become a republic instead

Yo, I am an actual IRL arms dealer and this is pretty much a classic summary of how most of arms dealing works. Weird surplus caches are the bread and butter of the industry, since a lot of small countries need cheap stuff for anti-terror work and basic security. The rest is essentially a trading company.

Most of the work is actually more similar to trading commodities, figuring out who has excess supply and who has low supply. Its really a job for an accountant at the end of the day. The one nice thing about the industry is that everyone knows each other and is fairly open to just talking. Its very hard to backstab people in an environment like that. A lot more honest than other industries I have been in.

@@pippywondergirl I had a lot of friends in college from ex-soviet block countries. Initially we tried to import their surplus to sell in the US, but we found later on that selling things to developing militaries is actually more profitable. They get to sell their unusable stuff to you (which is usually a liability for them to store and profitable on the US domestic market) and they get that money back to purchase new equipment.

No real radar/sonar to speak of. So you'd sight their weird looking boat. Prepare arms, and notice their boat was... sinking on its own. Only to pop up 15 minutes later as you're sinking to the pearly depths.

@@Bladeofdeath311 Well, radar was not invented until 1937, and even hydrophones were not around until 1918. All you had was the periscope. And the submarine could stay underwater longer, just the steam went to cold after 20 min and the battery was not strong enough to travel far. I find the general design really cool but sadly the ballast tank method won in the end.

Shorts are a different section and can be governed separately. But videos that dont hit the 8min mark for decent cpm or 10min mark for midroll ads fare very bad in the algorythm because they dont reach the criteria of watch time / viewer retention. The shorts ui sucks anyway and you cant rewind if you missed something so you have to watch the whole thing again. Gets really awful when shorts become 1+ min long. Let’s not even mention the vertical format… So videos between 1min and 10min are screwed. That’s why so many youtubers make halfassed shit that strechtes to 10min for no reason. You see it all the time videos hitting just 10min and a few sec.
