How To Avoid Digging Trash & Iron With The XP Deus 2!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I use the XP Deus 2 to show how you can avoid digging bottle caps, some aluminum, and iron.
I make some comparisons between the Equinox 800 vs the XP Deus and how the discrimination is set up.
The discrimination is VERY confusing on the Deus 2 because iron tones bleed into the conductive target ID (TID) scale!
In this video you will join me on my own discovery process.
When I say “discriminate out”, that can mean two things with the Deus 2:
1) You could simply notch out TID numbers, in which case you won’t hear any sound at all when those numbers come up. This is NOT something you ever want to do.
2) The Deus 2 reports a non-ferrous PITCH frequency for the first tone segment.
This segment usually begins with a TID range of 1-7. However, we soon discover that we need to bump this number up to 1-10 (or higher!) to catch the RANGE of the iron.
Then, and this is extremely important, you need to go into:
TONES-EXPERT, and change the frequency of the first tone segment (1-10) to 100HZ! Then, and only then, will you hear the 1-10 TID range REPORT AS IRON TONES.
Then you will be able to hear those iron tones interrupting any high-tone false signals given off by iron halos!
You will no longer hear a consistent false tone when you’re on top of a nail. The good-false tones will be interrupted by low iron tones and reveal the true nature of what’s under your coil!
I call this “signal decay”: When a seemingly good consistent high tone is infuriated by iron tones the more you sweep over it. A clear sign the target is a nail (or any other iron).
In the video you will see me toggle between MULTI-FREQUENCY and SINGLE FREQUENCY. I do this easily with the click of my thumb because I saved two custom programs back to back, the details of those are as follows:
SETTINGS VIDEO: • MY XP DEUS 2 SETTINGS ...
My Settings:
I have two custom modes I alternate between:
1) High Conductor program (customized).
~Reactivity 1.5 or 2 at the highest.
~Silencer 0.
~Bottle Cap Reject 0.
~3 Tones.
~Tone Pitch, I bump up my 3rd tone segment pitch higher so I can hear higher conductors more easily.
The first tone segment I adjust to represent TID 1-10, and I take the frequency down to 100hz (watch the video).
~Audio type- square tones.
2) Deus Mono program (customized) Single frequency of 7.5kHz.

Just want to say I used this program set up in a heavy iron old iron works. I have hunted it a few times before. It’s has been heavily hunted over the years. I pulled out 11 coins. No silver or old copper but 6 nice old buckles. I was checking it with the mono. Also checked with tennka , sweeper. I have to say I loved it! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! Yes, it’s a process- luckily trying things out that worked with the Equinox (toggling between single and multi-frequency) worked the same way- but with new and pleasant surprises! But man, the discrimination really threw me for a loop for a while there but I think this is the beginning of the answer🤗👍🏼

Brilliant. I will use this in the field tomorrow. I love the clarity that you gave to using the discrimination number of 10 in correspondence with a 100 Hz tone. I have a lot of trash in the sand that I metal detect on our local beaches, so I think reactivity is going to probably stay at 3.0. I use 6 for audio response but I may drop it to 5 for a more balanced approach, lately, I have been read that using higher numbers can actually create problems and mask some signals. See the manual on this one. I have had the iron volume on 0, but I think I'm going to try the opposite approach and put it on 3, @100 Hertz, and discrimination at 10 as mentioned. Bottle caps will stay at 5, dirty beach issues, and I have been nulling out 63-68 to account for pull tabs from soda cans, and while this eliminates most of them, it doesn't get them all but I don't want to interfere with good targets in other VDI range values. I am extremely interested in someone testing a platinum ring and the VDI numbers that it generates?

Hey! Thank you for watching and for the detailed reply! I think hearing your iron (albeit low so it doesn’t drive you nuts) will really help you begin to decipher nails. Between that and keeping my discrim at 10 (100Hz) I have dug way less iron. I also would like some platinum numbers! Happy hunting!

Be aware that non ferrous and ferrous targets close together can drag the VDI numbers down and make them jump about. Training your ears is best practice. In time your remote can go in your pocket. Audio Response on 7 does give you more depth despite what the manual states. Also, on really trashy ground the non ferrous targets still pop through. A lower Audio Response, and the signals will be too faint to hear over the ferrous trash. The ground is still noisy either way. Leave on 7 for any programme you use imho. I've tried and tested it.👍

I’ll give your findings a go, the Dues 2 on Multi frequency loves finding foil with good tones, but as you have shown I now leave 29 and 32 VDI as have dug a stack of them to confirm targets and if you program the D2 will find the tiniest 3mm x3mm super thin foil rapper and also 1.77 lead pellets, read a few comments on Utube saying D2 does not find tiny targets, well that’s simply not true if you add your own programs, as you have discovered it’s better to hear the iron, I have added a program and run discrimination on minus -6.4 and then can clearly hear that iron, on the Nox I run with horse shoe off so can hear the iron and with the horse shoe on it clips with non Ferris tones making you believe there is a good target there, love the D2 😀😀😀 PS. Yes I did watch his air test and was very interesting , this is where the D2 shines, as you have shown it can pick out the good targets amongst the iron, yes it takes experience and important to sweep and circle around to decide to dig or not but efforts are worth it. Both the Nox and D1 and D2 are excellent machines but take some learning to get proficient in using them to get the best out of them, thanks for sharing 😀😀😀 With all your experience with a Nox can you please do a video showing how you discriminate the iron as you say you hear a squak, love to see that and run the D2 over same target to see your thoughts 😀😀

We know that discrimination makes the model shallower, but when we set discrimination to 0 or negative, and the night to 7 or 10, does the depth still decrease? In other words, in your opinion, does the night decrease the depth?

I have used these settings prior to seeing your video and they worked for me. 100 Hertz, three or five tones, iron volume three or greater, reactivity 1.5 etc I am metal detecting on the beaches here in South Florida we're aluminum is the metal of the day and after a while you can hear the difference between aluminum and for example, a quarter in the tone that each of them make. Occasionally large aluminum like a shredded aluminum can, will fool me and there's little I can do except keep trying. Some bench testing with an aluminum can, and the single frequency at 7.5 did not help me discern the aluminum from a good target. Any ideas?

  • @Nwdetectors

    @Nwdetectors

I also get fooled by ‘certain’ aluminum… It’s not perfect, but it does help me filter out ‘some’ trash. Large aluminum like buried cans is virtually impossible to eliminate, as You’ve probably experienced when it’s deep it sounds really good😢

  • @LobsterClawzRecovery

    @LobsterClawzRecovery

@@Nwdetectors aluminum is a monster to try to eliminate. I actually have an idea that I would love to use to build a metal detector that actually detected aluminum. Wouldn't that be cool. Anyway, you can always scrape out a target and then detect it again and see if it changes it's tonality from side to side left to right. Recalling that you should detect it from several angles but often those really huge targets are going to be booming even at depth and that can be an indicator unless pirates have recently been on that beach, and have deposit a treasure just is likely an aluminum can. Cheers.
