Like yourself I use Black Forest furniture oil and Rubio Monocoat. I find Rubio significantly easier to apply. It never get sticky meaning you can apply it faster where the Black Forest you need to add to the table so slowly to avoid it getting tacky. I’m wondering if you have any tips with the Black Forest. I see you mentioned you will need to buff the oil for “15 more minutes” which seems realistic from my experience. A piece that size I could apply Rubio in less than 2 minutes for comparison. I want to like using the Black Forest but I find myself always reaching for the Rubio

Sam - I have found with Black Forest that it helps to really use a tiny amount at a time. When it starts getting sticky then there may be too much product on the wood. Also, using a buffer or random orbital with a piece of buffing pad attached to it will help work the product into the wood and help avoid it becoming sticky.

This was a great informational video! I quite enjoyed how you weighed the coating against other finishing materials in the industry and actually listed the pro's and cons!

Glad it was helpful. I have been using this more and some additional things I like are - unlike Rubio you don't need to mix anything, so I find myself wasting less. The pieces that I applied the ceramics to are holding up really well. It is expensive so for pieces that are not taking a lot of abuse I may not put ceramics on but for everything else it is worth it and doesn't take much more time. Thanks again for watching!

@@BenVanKirk I completely understand and agree with you. I coated one of my butcher block tablets that I use for work due to the ease of cleaning and it's held up phenomenally. It's made me want to replace my work counters with butcher block as I find myself trying to do all my work on a 36"x18" piece of wood 😂😂

Great video, was wondering if you could show how to put that black forest diamond ceramic on top of rubio Monocoat? Saw the finish in another video of yours and it looked gorgeous.

Andrean - The Diamond Ceramic Base Coat and Ceramic Top Coat are applied the same way to Rubio Monocoat. Give the Rubio Monocoat 2-3 days to cure then apply the Diamond Base Coat using the applicator pad and microfiber towel that comes with the Blackforest kit, let it set for a few minutes then buff it off with a clean slightly damp microfiber towel. The Top Coat is applied the same way as the Base Coat and can be applied a few hours after the base coat has had time to cure.

@@andreankusnetsov7264 a kitchen island is the perfect place to use the ceramic coatings. Also, make sure you work in small sections, 2 feet by 2 feet, at a time.

Is this type of finish worth the extra cost over something like varnish in your opinion?

The ceramic coating is worth the cost for anything that is going to take a lot of abuse.
