    One of the selling points for oil-wax finishes is the ease of repair, from a stain or a scratch. Will the ceramic coating interfere with that? Does the ceramic coating have to be stripped somehow before re-applying the oil for a repair?

    I don’t know I have found great results with a coat of polyurethane, buffing it with car wax, and then spraying ceramic coating on it. Thus far, I’ve never had anything get damaged. Edit: I have only used it on table tops. That way, I have never done it to chairs or anything like that.

    If it is similar to automotive ceramic coatings the ceramic coating will act as a protective layer over the wood so if a stain or scratch has occurred the ceramic coating has probably already been removed.

    Just a warning. I used the ceramic base and top coat on a few pieces and it worked great. Last week I just used it on a 10’ conference table I am making for a bank and the top coat looked awful. I applied it the same as always, exactly according the instructions and it was uneven and streaky and made the whole table look bad. You could see each pass in the light and it went from a totally even uniform coat to an unprofessional mess. I called Black Forest and asked if there was anything I could do to fix it. I was told “you’re the second person today who’s called with that problem, sometimes that just happens, there’s nothing you can do except sand it down and refinish it” (which is exactly what I ended up having to do). Just a warning, you should be prepared to have to refinish your work if this messes up and don’t expect much help if you call.

I am not the most experienced with paint and finishes and can manufacture a disaster on my own. But with thought ans reflection I can usually figure out where I blew it. Hopefully, Black Forest will get this figured out.

I mean I dont need to leave time between the gold layer, the platinum layer and diamont layer? and after this I let 2 hours pass and another Gold layer is applied?) when did you apply the top layer?, Thanks so much; greetings

    When it comes to Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. You only need one of the three. They are varrying grades if the same product. Gold = 1 year protection Platinum = 2 year Diamond = 5 year You can use any of these options depending on budget and each of them is designed to be combined with the top coat. The time between coats for ceramics is as little as 1 hour!

    I would use it! We also still have plenty of it that we’re using in our manufacturing. Even though the previous formula is solvent based it has much less than typical coating to be best suited (as possible) for oil finishes. To get any negative effect from the solvents in our old coating you’d probably have to do 15-20 coats on a single table. It’s typically the automotive coatings that have much more solvents as then are not meant for porous surfaces or oil based finishes.

    So I am a first time user of your products. I am finishing a live edge Suar table. I have ordered your products as they came out. I would like a fairly glossy but durable finish. So I now have both your ceramic coatings on hand. Base and top coat and I understand the hardness factors for them. Then I got some of your graphene coating as a top coat. So now you have the new Gold-Platinum-Diamond lines. What sequence of coats do I need to use? Do I need a bottle of the diamond coat as a finish coat and what layers do i put under it? Also how many coats of each if you recommend more than 1 coat?

    Wow. $600 for a 100ml bottle. That’s about 1/4 a can of soda. I gotta think you guys are using the graphene prices from a few years ago. A couple of years ago, Rice University developed a way to make turbostratic graphene for something like $100 per ton compared to the $100k per ton before that.

    Avoid this shit like the plague unless you like destroying your nice finish and throwing hundreds of dollars in the trash. This is not a “water based ceramic” it has solvents which are not consistent between bottles. If you understand the chemistry of “ceramics” at all you will know sio2 is not a solvent or carrier. The application of this is nothing like any other ceramic coating. It’s more like the cheap spray bottle ceramic snake oil you get that doesn’t even last 6 months. If you like streaks, haze and blotchy finish this is the product for you.

  • @BlackForestWoodCo

    @BlackForestWoodCo

    Жыл бұрын

    It is absolutely water based, no solvents at all. If it was solvent based our shipments would have to be classified as hazardous goods, which anyone who has ordered our product knows they are not. Our old formula was solvent based. Not sure if you misinterpreted something from the video but we are well aware SiO2 is not a solvent, it is the protectant. Also not sure what ceramics you have used but there application is consistent with other products, even in the automotive space. We have no history of you ever making an order so I’m doubtful you’ve even tried the product, however if you have and you’re getting uneven results, we’d be more than happy to teach you how to use ceramic coatings!

    Not answering the questions below is a very poor show of customer support. I have just minutes ago finished putting the top coat on my walnut dining table and couldnt be less pleased. Its streaky, blotchy and looks like crap. You have to worknat light speed to work with this product before it dries. The comment during the video that states you dont have to worry about lapping is simply not true. This product is a nice idea but is poor performer i wont be using it again.
