Thanks Jeff you just save me a ton of time with the smart collection in LR. I would look through the whole gallery and write down how many photos of each player I had for the high school teams I shoot.

@@jeffvoganphotography I did the whole player keyword thing in Photo Mechanic, then created a Smart Collection for each player in Lightroom before importing just the tagged images. Now I can see how many shots I got of each player (it's Australian Rules Football) so that I can even them out. I also found that I can tag images in Photo Mechanic lightning fast using the LoupeDeck rotary button to scroll back and forth - instead of the arrow keys.

Great video Jeff… never thought about the loading of keywords. I am trialing putting ‘#2=‘ into the metadata template so it automatically Loads in ‘keyword’ and ‘persons shown’. Then I have second column in the code replacement with just the name. When I go through I just click to in-front of the # and add =cw1 and it adds name without the team etc.

Glad you like it. The Persons Shown field is not a searchable field in Lightroom, so if you put the name into the Person Shown field, the Smart Collection wouldn’t see the names.

This what I was hoping this video showed. I want to add the players names to keywords when I enter the names in the captions. The person shown variable doesn't populate in the keyword field.

Thank you Jeff for a great video. I learn so much more about PM as well as LR! I am a volunteer photographer for our local rugby union club, so will shoot at least 5 games in a day with each team having 15 to 23 players. I use code replacements in the description field for the selected photos before taking into LR5 for post processing. To use your keywording system for all the photos (approx 1,000), would you suggest one long file of the names or split up into each of the 5 teams? Problem can be that during the season, players may move up a grade or be a reserve for a higher grade team. Also in the scrums for each team it is the same 8 players for the majority of the game. Is there a way to make a group of names rather than have to add the individual names each time? Thanks in advance for any advice. Cheers, Malcolm (Sydney, Australia)

If players are moving from team to team, I’d go with one long list. It gets sorted alphabetically so a long list is still manageable. There are a couple of options for sets of players. I’d probably save the group of names as a set. Hard to believe in lain here. I may do another video to experience lain.

Great video. I used to be very fast at captioningy images but now, I have to add the player's name to persons shown for example. Is there a faster way than just copy/paste from the main caption or, as I do, have a second set of codes with just the Ayers name without the team name?

  • @jeffvoganphotography

Not 100% sure I know exactly what you are trying to do. You can use multiple code replacements if you wish to have different text you want to use for the same player. =you could, for example, use =ml34= for the first replacement, and then =ml34#2= for the send code replacement. This is the type of content I teach in my workshops.
