How to 3D Print Minis

Ғылым және технология

In this episode I show you my favorite website:
www.heroforge.com/ !!!!!
Using Heroforge, I built a model of a tabletop mini, then demo'd my new 3D printer, the Form2: formlabs.com/
This video was a ton of fun, and I did finger guns at the camera 18 damn times. Enjoy.

Hey man love the vid but also can you make more than just one mini figure or do you also have to pay separate for more?

  • @TheDungineer

You do have to pay more for separate figures. I typically only make custom minis for player characters or really important NPCs, and get everything else off the shelf. Most game shops have minis at reasonable prices.

I'm looking at starting printing minis using a resin printer. Could you please tell me more about the IPA cleaning part of this process. Do you have to replace the IPA with new clean liquid after every print, or how often is it replaced? It seems very expensive to use so much IPA. Is it recommended to use such a big container rather than a small container just big enough to fit a couple minis

These basins are what are provided by form labs, and are meant to be able to facilitate the largest print size that can come off of those printers. Typically the IPA lasts for quite a while, but there's no great measure of how saturated the IPA gets. What I've been doing recently is putting my print into a sandwich bag, filling it up with just enough IPA to fully cover the print, pushing all of the air out of the sandwich bag by submerging the bottom in water, and leaving the top of the bag open and out of the water, then sealing the bag once all the air is out, then putting that bag into an ultrasonic cleaner. I've then been dumping that used IPA into my standard bath, and using the 'dirty' IPA in the basin for my less detailed prints. I hope this helps! Hit me up with any other questions you have!

An FDM printer will definitely not print as detailed as a resin printer. I've been searching for a video showing this printer making minis's, thanks!

I wish to buy a 3d printer.. BUT i have no experience with technology, especially such machines. I can only spend 400 euros.. so i must ask. What d printer is the best for me, to print such figures? Can somebody help me?

Unfortunately I don't have enough experience with other printers to recommend anything. I will recommend you do a lot of reading about them before buying, because you need to understand how they work to operate and maintain them.

@@TheDungineer Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, i do not know anyone in my life to guide me. And searching the net for answers.. how does anyone know what to search for, if they do not know the questions to those answers? Technology seems so complicated to me. I could never understand it by myself.. alas, i keep postponing the purchase of a 3d printer. And know i realize i will never be able to comprehend it, thus..

You should read around on r/3dprinting. General gist though, if you want to focus mainly on miniatures, get an SLA or similar tech printer like the printer shown in the video. These will be a bit more complicated to finetune and have a relatively small buildplate but will give unparalleled quality in printing minis. If you want to print acceptable minis but also want to print bigger stuff for everyday use like for example a desk organizer or whatever, you should go for an FDM.

10 dollars for a mini that is not even perfectly clean? Way too expensive :-/ The idea is there but heroforge should divide their prices by a factor 4 to convince me.
