Thorin's problem, IMO, is that he often takes strong ideological stands for what he thinks is right, and is annoying about them. When he does it for the right reason (ex: not working with ESL because they robbed NA of hard earned slots) people forget the original (good) reason, and he just comes off to a lot of people as annoyingly self-righteous. When he does it for what people believe to be the wrong reason, it's never forgotten.

It is absolutely bizarre how staunchly he stands by his takes on players. The CS scene is CONSTANTLY changing, new talents rise, old players have comebacks that no one could've seen coming- but most importantly than that, I think the one thing the community values is respect for the legends of the game. It's pretty obvious that a lot of hate for Thorin is because of how strongly he doubles down on usually controversial statements, but goddamn it is avoidable when it comes to the game and players aspect.

Even if it may be bizarre, I think that the fact it is constantly changing is why people need to make less of a big deal of what he says. If the scene wasn't constantly changing and he blatantly devalued the best players or team it would make way more sense for people to bash him, no? Because the fact that the scene changes a lot more now than it has in various points in the past is why I think his takes and their controversial status make a lot more sense and why they shouldn't be branded as idiotic.

I think you missed a key detail. After ESL stole Pro League spots from teams that had qualified for that league, Thorin refused to work with ESL until they publicly apologized for it and fired the people who had made the decision. ESL obviously didn't do this, but guess who also runs like 80% of the CSGO circuit? That's right, ESL. You also didn't mention that the fallout with his tweet exchange with Dev1ce was that Blast wouldn't work with him anymore unless he made several concessions regarding what he could and couldn't tweet (if I recall correctly), which he refused to do. Anyway, it's not surprising that he's doing less events now as a result of these two things.

Thorin and Richard Lewis are like case studies for the impact of being terminally online. Both of them are middle aged men who let internet comments, criticism and opinions take up way too much space in their heads and let social media turn them into negative, cynical and frankly unhappy people. Not trying to hate, both of them are capable of great things but sad to see the effects of years and years of social media impacting them the way it does, neither of them come across as positive or optimistic people.

It's a lot easier to like people like Thorin and Richard Lewis if you don't follow or pay attention to their twitter. Just from a content perspective, their desk work during tournaments, their interviews, articles, podcasts and things were always some of the best in the esports scene. But they are both constantly on twitter and have a need to engage and argue on there was always going to either eventually burn them out on the scene or destroy them. It's a shame as I always appreciate people willing to call out org's, players, and anyone else for bullsh*t or playing badly/not doing enough and I don't think we get enough of that outside of them.

Thats definitely it. On any type of comment section it doesn’t really matter what you say there will always be someone that hates your opinion. I think those two guys are great examples of people that don’t respect their audience because from their perspective they are surrounded by idiots. This lack of respect, while funny sometimes, usually rubs people the wrong way. They fall into the trap of calling people idiots, which is really not a useful thing to do, because no idiot was ever accused of being an idiot, and was inspired to self reflect and agree that yes, “I am and Idiot, lets change that”. No, the idiots will always be idiots. It especially doesn’t help that idiots also call other people idiots, it all just devolves into namecalling and a waste of time. You can’t help people that don’t want help.

Richard is *very* extra in arguments, and can be really hard to follow at times, but again no one is forced to follow his interaction online (which I stopped for that exact reason). 😂 So people just hate Thorin because he is 1. unpopular; 2. being straight, rude and upfront on things; 3. willing to speak from a different perspective than the general public. He warned us of Regi yrs ago; he told us about Danny as well; he did a long discussion on women and esports long before the whole movement began. He might be rude and direct all the time, sometimes, he speaks of the truths and that's what he does. As always, the truth is never subtle and soothing. But yeah, children are always more than the adults. A smack on the head is a wake-up call not exactly an abuse, but these days, kids will say you are abusing them anyway. Funny thing, his videos might not always have high views, but his subscriber number is growing since. In contrary, Travis is losing subscribers. Hating a man for being rude is one thing, but when he speaks of the truths, you listen to that. Who can be always right on predictions anyway? Not even Crumbz The Prophet got everything perfectly right. YamatoCannon is downright harsh on LCS PA's demands and how immature they are; Thorin at least isn't that strong on that. Also, time will tell who's telling the truth, and you know damn right, Thorin is mostly a bit closer to the truth. (But yeah, Alex Jones part, he should have just kept to talking about eSports like he does now! 😂 Never talk about something you didn't do a long hard amount of research)

I used to work with him during his tenure at SK, between 2009 and 2012. He has a strong work ethic, with a drive that is second-to-none. Though, he also has a difficult personality that is alienatory, which drove most of the SK staff (and apparently his subsequent collaborators) away, destabilizing the website into oblivion, which the German management shrugged off with, "We don't like him, but hey, he does his job". He's very vindictive; once you are on his bad side (which most of the staff was), you stay there in indemnity - it's for this reason that I'm surprised that he & Richard Lewis became such close friends. For all his faults, however, he never once seemed even remotely misogynistic or racist.

Speaking your mind is an admirable trait, and not a bad trait. It's maturity and understanding when and where to inject your opinion. I feel he isn't malicious at first, he typically has sound arguments, but then he lets emotions come into play. And once he gets emotional he says stupid stuff.

Twitter makes literally everyone look bad. I thank myself every day for not using the platform lol I appreciate the content that Thorin puts up most of the time. I see the arrogance as part of a character he's playing for his work, as well as a coping mechanism. Dude obviously has some issues socially. I think it, as a coping mechanism, helps him push thru certain things and get his work done, so it's hard to take it (the arrogance) seriously or be offended by it for me personally. But I can't fault anyone for being rubbed the wrong way by it. There's def loads of talking heads out there that rub me the wrong way as well, and maybe some of those are cases of me just not understanding the person.
