The No date submariner is the original design…not the date version. So yes I think it’s the correct design. The date one was made for regular wear not for diving.

so you reckon divers need to know the date when they are in the water? yes, a modern day submariner has all the touches of luxury and conveniences of knowing the date. But in its purest utilitarian form of a dive watch: its surely the one without the date complication which is its original form first made as the "Turn-O-Graph" then a year later called the Submariner. There is a market segment for both forms of Submariners, but i certainly don't think its right to label one as anything less "genuine" that the other. Keep up the good work buddy. I enjoyed your insight overall.

Man the Rolex sub is a grail for me. I remember growing up and seeing it on the wrist of adults and thinking that the cyclops looked so weird and always peaked my interest! I know it’s very vanilla and everyone and their mom owns one. However until I get one in my collection my collection will have a massive void 😔 . Another great video brother ❤️

Ha, great story M, the difference of the region. If in the states, the brand was often spotted potentially as the definition of wealth or success. In East Europe wasn't that common, here we had strong russian influences, therefore a Vostok was way more common :D But yes, as well. since I know myself, the definition of rolley for me was the ''the watch'' that had a cyclops and a crown. as for your collection, when you will own a sub, and it will happen. you will see that there isn't a big difference between what you currently have and the sub. Basically everything is a "wish list" and depending on the time of the year. some models have the "wishlist" closed, you cannot put on the list a daytona. ypu have to wait until the lists reopen in 2022 :D Every model has a rank, for example if i want a milgauss, and there is someone that spent more than me across at the AD he will be called first and asked if he wants the milgauss.

Picked up the 124060 on the grey market today. No bullshit AD politics. Can’t stop looking at my wrist. Yes, I paid a premium. But it beats buying 2-3 watches I don’t want just to move up the waitlist.

question, when you put your name on the list, did you list a hierarchy of preferred models? meaning, did you indicate sub no date as top 1 and sea dweller as top 2?

Firstly. ypu have some sort of a tryout. if you add on your wishlist a GMT master 2 and they call you (at some point) with an explorer or a yacht master and you say no There are big chances that you will never be called. I was scheduled to purchase on my name the sub. and apparently my friend ended up on the list because of the c Card.

@@BraveBeaters I think this would depend on the AD. My brother (with no purchase history) was on the list for a sub and a sea dweller. The AD called him for the SD after about 6 months, but he declined after trying it on. The AD appreciated that he declined instead of flipping the SD. 4 months later he got called for the sub.

To my knowledge all of the new models have AR coating on the crystals. Also a true submariner has no date. That’s why there is two names. A submariner and a submariner-date. The earliest references such as the 6538 and 5513 all had no dates. Wasn’t until the late 70s with the reference 1680 did the submariner get a date function. All Rolex purists will agree a no date sub is a true sub 💃🏼

Jason, yes, you might be right they added AR on the inner part. . You are right as well in regard to the no date. however I was referring strictly at the iconic cyclops of the datejust and how it ended up making a statement out of this, applying the cyclops to all their models across time.

Yeah, that's BS. A Submariner and Submariner Date are both Submariners. The Submariner came first, so it is the original. However, they are both Submariners. Pick whichever one you like.

I currently don't desire any Rolex watches but everyone talks about how comfortable they are on the wrist which makes me want to try it.

If you go to AD in the uk at the moment then you can try a few models on as they have them in the showcase

Great story Amice. The Sub is an amazing watch, had a Sub-Date for a while, to review and I must say, did not fall in love mostly because of the Supercase. While the case does not define the watch, looking at all day just did not do it for me. I am in love with my BB58 tho and planning to put them side by side. Cheers and great video.

If you go to more than one AD and asked to be put on their list, is it specifically for that AD or is there a master list that all the ADs are connected to. I heard that if you get on more than one list from different ADs they can find out, then you will get removed. Any knowledge?

Honestly I have no idea if there is a rule for that. they should display them anyway. basically as far as i know, if you live in UK for example, only the UK AD's should be allowed to offer you a watch for purchase.

Brave Beaters , the original Submariner had no date full stop period. So that is the Rolex Submariner its a no date watch originally ,adding a date was an after thought. Rolex Submariner is not a Date Just or DayDate about Cyclops.

I worked for a retailer. There isn't a thing called Rolex list. The list is managed by the retailer. But it is true that purchasing Rolex watches do come with many here-and-there, in the end Rolex wants the retailers to KNOW who they are selling to. One of the reasons a person without purchase history will have hard time buying certain models.

@@ragnarlothbrok936 I will generally advise against buying something when you know obviously it is being hyped up. It will only give you headache. But it's still worth more building your relationship with AD compared to buying at hyped price in grey market. In almost all cases, even if you buy something available first, then you get a chance to buy the "dream watch" down the line, financially you are still better off than buying directly in grey market way over retail.

I bough my Submariner an Datejust on the grey market, paid £3k over list in total for both watches. probably a lot less than I'd have to lay out on stuff i don't want from an AD just to get on a list..AND i had them in my hands 48hrs later

Sadly these are now commodities and at least Rolex are trying to stop flippers. Many signs point to Rolex looking to exit AD’s and sell only though boutiques. Will this help? Time will tell. I am disillusioned with Rolex, hate the ‘image’ it portrays etc etc and buy omega, IWC and other brands instead.

Andrei, the new 41mm Submariner does now have AR coating under the sapphire. I like the watch however the clasp is ridiculously oversized and 21mm lug width is stupid. I was considering swapping my 116710LN GMT Master 2 for it but when I compared them side by side the GMT looked more expensive and exclusive. And I agree the cyclops is a Rolex signature.

Yes you are right, has AR coating inside. The master 2 is more balanced and good looking :) Finally someone agrees with me in regard to the cyclops. we are 2 against 8 so far :)))

Rolex is a kind of company that work with dealers and scalpers to make it look like their clients and funs have to wait years to bye some of their watches while there are plenty selling on the second hand market for inflated prices, creation the ilusion that pay 10 K for a new rolex sub watches is such a bargain! A company of rolex size is capable to make these watches fast enough to wipe out the "years long" waiting list to satisfy and save the money of its clients and funs, but it deliberatedly does not.

In my opinion this policy sounds pretty much bizar...

Gareth, I am not sure if a cost of a watch can end up being so low. especially when it's made in Switzerland, where the cost rate of an employee is extremely high. not the mention the speciality of those of rolex.

The list is only for regular consumers in an AD, the other list is fake. The Rolex has nice watches, but for me it's overhyped and overpriced (bling bling) ;) For this price you can have much better true luxury watch, in my opinion, at the moment, Tudor has more realistic prices for a tool watch.

It shouldn’t be any of their business who’s card you use it could be a friend, brother, wife, anything. They would never do that with a car, clothing, dinner bill, or anything else. Rolex operates at a level so unacceptably rude compared to the rest of the world

Well I bought one with the date new back in ‘09 (by the way the submariner is the original the date is the modern version because water men don’t need dates on their watch) and I hated two things about it, 1 it was just plain uncomfortable kind of unbalanced with an annoying bracelet and 2 was the ugly cyclops which I just couldn’t get used to. I didn’t know at the time you can remove it but the crystal will have some damage. The third thing less tangible but even more aggravating was finding out it had become (even back then)a real wankers joke of a watch, with most owners hardly able to swim let alone deep sea dive or participate in any ocean sport really. A shame the real sub (no date) is seen the same way now. Most ppl wearing one in the ocean would be made fun of. But fortunately if your not some label queen there are many even better watches made for the purpose that are either much less money like an Omega 300 or Doxa or more expensive but much more attractive like the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms that has even better ocean pedigree as well without the ‘fool’ label attached. My next water going watch will be the Fifty Fathoms, Doxa Ceramic or Omega Ploprof but definitely I not a Rolex. My wife’s two tone date just is a pretty watch though. By the way in my humble opinion someone who buys anything a watch, a record, a concert ticket to flip for profit is a swindler, a lowlife criminal petty thief. I’m glad Rolex is figuring out how to thwart these greedy slackers. They should do some jail time and have to repay their ill gotten profits. A lot of people who would actually use these for purpose can no longer afford one because of these creeps.
