I bought a Rolex Submariner No Date 14060m off eBay with Box and Papers. I sold it 18 months later because it was boring, and the Tudor Black Bay 58 is a better watch.

I could not agree more - I m building my 3 watch collection and currently have a submariner and a BB58 black dial. I cannot stress enough how beautiful the BB58 is. It has practicality similar to the submariner, but with out all the flashy marketing of the Rolex brand. Funny enough I have never gotten anyone to say 'wow that's a Tudor', but I have certainly had people ask 'what kind of watch is that...' then followed by 'that is really nice' - which I think speaks volumes to the beauty of this time piece that does not require the common person to be hyped by the brand

There are two watches I will never sell; my Sub and my Speedmaster Pro. There simply are no substitutes for these two. That Tudor is really nice, I'll admit. And I'm a Tudor guy too....love my Tiger Chrono, which used to be affordable. Nothing is affordable anymore unfortunately.

I feel increasingly that this channel is producing short video essays on watch collecting, and I think it's offering something smart and different. It seems pretty influential too; Adrian really knows how to initiate a talking point. You see it ripple across KZread. And beyond: I went to my watch dealer the other day, and he's talking about watch companies and social media, playing over the talking points from the other week's video, and - when I went back - hiring photographers to do his social media. There's lots of other channels I go to to perv on watches; this is one of the best for thinking about watches and watch collecting. The Bark and Jack straps are top drawer too. Thanks and all the best.

I get this way with a lot of things. Including cars. You want want want, and then you get it. And the feeling is great. Then, after a while, you feel like, ok, it's just a watch, just a car, it was fun, been there done that. It's like, "i accomplished it". Now what? It doesn't need to be owned forever, but the achievement, the chase is what was exhilarating. Then, for me, if I need money, I'd probably sell my 10k USD watch, and keep all my others. Can still enjoy the rotation and other great looking pieces. Once you've done that, you feel like, "I did it once, and I can do it again if I want to". The hunger has been sated.

Everyone seems to forget that I think. The Bond seamaster was so much better built than the subs of the day. It’s only been a little over a decade ago that most of Rolex’s lineup moved away from stamped clasps, from Jubiliees with hollow centre links. Eg, in 2007 you could have had a decade old seamaster with solid and milled everything and Rolex was still putting out jangly tinny rubbish. They paid almost no attention to anything other than the watch head. The beads of rice on that seamaster was simply superb, with its mix of brush outer links and polished beads, with every element articulating, it is still one of the most comfortable bracelets I’ve ever worn.

I had the same feelings about my new 2021 Omega Speedmaster Moon Watch. I have wanted a Moon Watch since I was a kid, and with the new update, it seemed like the perfect time to finally pull the trigger. I liked it in the store, and I liked it at home, but something was missing. It took a few weeks until I realized that there was nothing wrong with the watch; it was exactly what I had always wanted, and even better. It was me that changed. My watch collection and preferences had changed over the years, and the Moon Watch no longer fit, with me. Great video

As a watch enthusiast and collector, I feel that Rolex is ubiquitous. It’s not really high horology. One could argue that with price inflation on the secondary market, they’re quite overvalued. Undoubtedly, a great investment, however, it’s not only value retention or appreciation that ignite my passion for the hobby. My Grand Seikos, Nomos, Sinn and Zenith watches provide far more pleasure. My Rolex watches get far less wrist time. It’s a difficult concept to grasp if you’ve never owned a Rolex and it’s your aspirational timepiece.

Back in about 2000, I thought I wanted a dive watch. I like the vintage style and traded for an early 80s Tudor Submariner with an acrylic crystal. It looked great, exactly the look I was striving for. I really like the look of a domed acrylic crystal. I bought a shark skin custom strap for it and then, I didn't wear it. It was too thick and bulky for me and didn't do anything for me emotionally. I was able to sell it quickly. Great watch, just not for me.

Nobody wanted to spend more than about 5 to 5.5k Euros for a regular Sub or even a GMT or DJ. But was going on today is insane! The explosion of prices on the grey market are a result of stupid money in our young society and the hype on "social" channels. I don't want to be part of this anymore, because this doesn't have to do anything with my love to watches and my enthusiasm with that kind of hobby. But, the biggest concern at this stage is that this kind of watch is now very often stolen through violent robberies and I really do not enjoy this feeling of fear when I wear it. So, overall I will not sell it because I don't need to and it's still a good memory, but I wear it not so frequently. Clearly, not so well known brands are better for me at this stage

I just did the exact same thing. I sold a Sub and got the BB58. I love the aesthetic of the BB. The gilt makes the watch much warmer than the Sub. But the clasp is nearly a deal breaker. Three micro adjusts and a non-articulating link on the 6 o'clock side of the clasp make it uncomfortable and impossible to get the right fit. I can't wear this watch for more than an hour or two on the bracelet. I'm hoping the Uncle Seiko half link will solve the fit problem, but I'm not sure you can fix the pain caused by the non-articulating end link. I'll throw it on a nato strap and hope for the best. If Tudor rolls out the new T-Clasp (their version of Rolex's easy glide system) for the whole BB58 line and not just the limited released bronze version then they will make a lot of 58 owners very, very happy.

@@WatchUnwind They have definitely shot themselves in the foot this time. The fact the most authorised dealers have about 10 watches or less left in their stock rather than 150 to 200 means that there is an enormous exodus of potential Rolex customers to other brands. Many dealerships are now investing huge amounts into other luxury watch brands to make up the shortfall of revenue that Rolex have created. Many sales people within the retail watch sector have also had enough of the stream of people that walk in or phone every day looking for Professional models that they can flip , it is exceptionally boring and tedious for them and for that reason many of them now refuse to wear Rolex watches because of the association . It actually lowers the perception of exclusivity. When the new Rolex factory is completed next year, Rolex should make a point of overproducing Professional models to dampen the grey market and to stop people flipping for a quick profit. It will ensure that genuine purchasers get what they want rather than opportunist flippers who have their names down at multiple AD for a range of the same watches. Just my opinion ! Many people are buying into Breitling, Omega, Panerai, IWC, to name a few, rather than Rolex. Also Rolex have stipulated that AD’s now have to display any stock that has arrived, even it is already sold, so that displays don’t look empty ( there was nothing on display ), and this has lead to dealers displaying stainless steel Professional models in their windows , which are already spoken for. They then have 50 enquiries a day from prospective window shoppers for something they cannot sell. What is the point of that ? It just pisses people off .

Appreciate the frank analysis of this video. I have owned The BB58, Kermit and the Sub No Date for awhile. But at the end I decided to re-home the Sub No Date to someone who would appreciate it more.

Great video. I wanted a five digit Sub for years but could not afford one when they were new. While I could afford a five digit Sub today, I chose to purchase a new Tudor BB58 black dial instead. To me, the Tudor feels more like the way a Submariner should look than the current six digit Sub. The only thing I disagree with you is I believe the Tudor is timeless and will still look spectacular in the future. And yes, for many people, the hunt is more fun than the watch itself. These watches get so hyped online that reality often has a difficult time keeping up with the hype. I do love the Tudor, though!

I agree with you that I think the BB58 will become a classic, It's such an elegant watch. I got myself the 925 with the open back. I bought it for two reasons, it was the style of dive watch i was after - not shiny having a brushed metal look and the exhibition case as i've never owned one. And then when i found out it was pure silver or 92.5% I was like WOW. I didn't know much about Tudor at the time but am beginning to realise that this is a brand that now stands in a league of it's own. I see it more as the bad boy of the Rolex family, doing things different in ways no one else would dare and pulls it off majestically.

What a great video. I'm going through this whole process of whether or not I should purchase a Rolex Sub no date vs Tudor BB58/54 right now. I believe you've convinced me that I would have severe buyer's remorse because the aesthetic and design of the BB58/54 just has me every time I try them on. Really many of the Tudors do. I can get a few Tudors for the price of one sub. I don't think the sub as you said would excite me as much as wearing the Tudors on the daily. And I think you're right, the excitement is really in the hunt to get what most people cannot get. Thanks for setting me straight!

I think part of the problem is that you had an old submariner vs. the higher quality modern ones. The new bracelet and clasp is great.

Then again, Adrian clearly does favor the shape and size of the old cases, as do I. But i guess it’s ok if you got them at retail back in the day but it’s a tough pill to swallow, if your paying current prices for an “inferior” watch. I too, am considering a 14060 or 16710 GMT, but i’m having trouble justifying either.

@@SaintWill70 i guess, I’ll find out how i feel about it if / when i get it. I ordered the green one, just after it’s release in 2021😃 i still feel that the older ones have more charm, but I’m not spending around 20k for an old Kermit. Suddently 13k for the 16710 GMT sounds a lot better😄

I agree with most of what you said, except, that only the Sub will look good years from now and the Black Bay 58 and Seamaster won't. I think the Sub and Seamaster will look great, as will the BB 58. All three are pretty timeless designs.

The planet ocean will look great, looks far better than the submariner which I think is incredibly overrated, its a very dull looking watch, its not aesthetically balanced at all. The dial is lost behind the markers.

Totally agree, I've been looking at the SMP in black, the speedy and bb88. Tried them all on at AD and the bb88 didn't want to leave my wrist, still want the omega, and still want a sub (at the right price) keep up the good work

I can totally get the the move to sell the no date sub and get the BB58 and SMP 300. I was having a similar decision myself but with newer watches. I could have sold my BB Harrods edition and added £4550 onto the sale and get a modern Air King, or neo vintage no date sub. However I just didn't feel like the other options where worth it to me because I have my BB and my newly acquired Speed Master with the 1863 movement seems like a better option to me. After 2 weeks of speedy ownership I get to enjoy switching between the 2 watches vers having 1 Rolex. I get enough of the Rolex feel from my Tudor and the Omega is a welcome change. At some point I will like to buy into Rolex ownership but that's going to be for another milestone in my life.

So i can relate. I got and omega seamaster quartz (goldeneye) and a Tag Monza chrono from the same auction. Before they turned up i had in my head, flip the Omega and keep the Monza for the collection. Couldn’t of been any different, I loved (and still do) the omega, such a good watch to just pick up and go with. The tag on the other hand just felt wrong. So sold that after just not feeling that luv that you get sometimes. Good vid

Just saw both of these watches last week at their respective AD’s. Love them both. Great watches on the technical side and they look great on my wrist. The Black Bay is less expensive than the Seamaster…but the Seamaster has got a bit more to offer. Ill let my heart chose. I appreciate your thoughts on both of these great watches!

The more I’m fooling around to build my watch collection, the more I think I will end up with a 3 watches collection, 3 Tudor: The BB58, the BB36 and the 1926. Period. 🤔😎 ... and I can’t agree more: Buying your Grail watch just kills the journey. 😩

Ok we’re talking a low end watch here but for me it was the Seiko Arnie. I’m a huge Arnie fan, I grew up watching his films as a child. When other kids were raving about The Lion King I was talking about how awesome Predator was! To a child he’s literally an action figure brought to life. Bought the Seiko Arnie without seeing it and boy was I shocked by how poor the build quality was. It wasn’t even worth keeping as a novelty piece of memorabilia, don’t see the point of having £400 sitting in the watch box for no reason.

Advice please! My name is working its way up the wait list for a black sub no date. It started at 158 and I am probably a year away. I could only put my name down for one and I chose the black sub no date coz it had the shortest wait list. I have a 39mm explorer, omega AT Skyfall, GS SBGN001, GS SBGA083 and a JLC Reverso Large Small Seconds and a bunch of other watches. Good choice? Or the black sub is redundant coz of the Explorer (i love the E and will never part with it) Thanks guys.

Similar experience once the newness of my 124060 wore off. I was able to appreciate the BB58 for what it was. I stopped looking at it as a runner-up prize for the sub.
