    more on what the company thinks will generate most money really, dana emotionally was against colby talkin ish about him but saw dollar signs with the american maga guy who's friend with Trump, who pressures, brawls, and never gets tired as potential champ. he will be a more interesting and bigger money maker draw champ then leon or usman in the eyes of the ufc.

    I honestly think we forget just how big of a Superstar Paddy was poised to be before his Jared Gordon Fight. I remember people that don't even watch MMA telling me about "this Patrick Pimblett guy". I'm sure Dana saw the social media dollar signs and found a new Golden Boy.

    I remember wondering when paddy was going to hit the big time way back when he was champion in cage warriors, his debut in the UFC seemed to come late imo , he also has that bad habit of blowing up between fights , that's pure madness , he won't be a champ unless he really is pushed beyond his rankings, but I dont think he will be champ , he is an excellent British fighter , im so proud of how far Britain has come ,, I just think paddy lacks the final bit of quality to become the champ legitimately imo. I think he has got too big in terms of division for his talent , if he could have stayed healthy at 145 I would have given him a better chance, but going up I think he lacks strength and power. Knowing White though paddy will be in a title fight next month and win on a controversial points win

    It’s reasons like this that make me thankful the PFL is starting to rise up now. Sick and tired of the long waits for title fights, the inactivity and inability to bring upon the matchups that makes since all because of one man. Dana is very good at marketing fights and making people want to watch, but aside from that, I feel like we’re all starting to get tired of it. I don’t ever plan on turning my back on the ufc but I think we can all agree that there needs to be a rival organization that can put the ufc in check so that we aren’t stuck watching the Dana favorites run the show and the people’s champs sit out forever being just ranked contenders

    Very true. All the very reasons people got sick of boxing only to have the ufc now do it on a higher more blatant way. Something they always used to boast how theres rankings for fighters to genuinely earn their positions i guess that went out the door when dana start seeing the huge dollars which still arent nowhere near the big boxing fights so imagine what he'll do then 😂 i cant remember a boxer getting a title shot after beating only ONE ranked opponent like sean o malley

If he wants to make sure he doesn’t get passed up he needs to either be more exciting as a person or as a fighter. This has been an entertainment company for a long time now, and he knows it. Gotta make people care about you getting snubbed, and he simply doesn’t do that. Whether that’s right or wrong, I can’t say. But when that doesn't conflict with a decision, then Dana does Indeed try to put on the most exciting fights possible. There's no doubt Dana has a huge passion for mma its just that every now n then money dictates what fights are made. Cus let's be honest, does anyone wanna see Tom aspinall vs Jones? Ofcourse not we don't wanna see jones get destroyed on his last fight

    Ironically the guy who coined “Dana white privilege” is somehow not in this video despite losing 6 damn straight fights haha finished in 4 of them and not fired. AND given a fight to a guy on this list haha I mean that’s poetically ironic 😂 I’m not interested and never will be interested in Colby’s character. Mostly it’s patronizing how obvious of a character it is but I can’t blame him. He had to. But clearly the guy moves the needle with it. Not to mention what ppl aren’t considering is there’s likely plenty of fighters who have said no to Colby or avoid him if possible. I don’t really rate him if I’m honest but I understand why you’d want to avoid a hyper specific wrestler with fantastic pace that’s a nightmare objectively he uses his tools well have to give him credit. I can’t prove that but I can imagine easily a world where Colby isn’t getting potential fights except for guys like an usman. I can see there might be a point you have to consider that. Yes he loses but bc the guys who he could rack up in the W column don’t step to him like they do other fighters. Thats how justify it atleast . Otherwise it makes no sense there’s nothing in it for Dana other than business when you ACTUALLY think about it. That’s the only logical conclusion. Different for paddy but still business of course. Flag bearer of a market. Bringing uk with him. Tom has usurped that role as Leon’s personality isn’t terribly conducive for that but it’s pretty logical to not want to kill a cash cow when you don’t have to by tossing him to someone like Justin. They thought long and hard about giving him Tony. To suggest Tony is just some pushover is …. Well just silly haha it’s people setting it up in advance . Tony isn’t an easy fight. He just hasn’t taken a huge step down in competition as others do as they age. Paddy is that step down. Would Tony beat Jared Gordon? No. He’d win by manslaughter dude we both know that. But Tom angling into position I think is why he got this fight. Great test, but there’s still an avenue for the uk audience via Tom should paddy Fall. And a Tony win isn’t some joke. But if he wants to compete, getting by paddy shouldn’t be a hurdle. And if it is, the universe just decided for him. As for Connor… well no need to comment that’s obvious. And he’s already been tested 3 times in Q4 already. Not sure what steroid ppl think he’s carrying into pre -camp and into training haha it would be one thing if they also didn’t test him much. But that’s not the case. Besides, if people didn’t buy his fights, he wouldn’t be getting this favoritism. Idk why ppl can’t accept this haha Dana is obviously following the numbers. If people are actually complaining, how is it his PPV are so well bought? They didn’t get rid of usada for Conor of course. They got rid of usada bc they wanted final authority in their exceptions among other things. Again not a huge Conor fan same reasons as Colby but not crazy to eee the valid point regarding compound leg fractures. I can see doctors wanting a reasonable convo that balanced risk and business pursuit. No one said don’t test him but it’s how they were so public. He’s still going to do his 6 months for insurance and liability reasons. Watch. UFC 300 will be April. He’s in the pool, that’s 6months. He’ll pretend he won’t make it then they’ll drop it to build hype. It’s that USADA went rogue and presumably was addressing media making platitudinal statements without consulting their client. Thats not a great relationship. The ufc never said Conor wasn’t serving his 6 months. So yeah I can see why they’d want that control back not even for their own sake though that helps but so USADA can’t hold business decisions hostage if they aren’t being particularly agreeable either.

    True, and it’s somewhat inevitable for several reasons, not least of which that you can’t have every fighter compete against every other fighter in the division a couple times per year, or have a tournament with multiple rounds spanning a succinct period of time where you get a true reflection of merit levels on a given date in history. Each guy just has a handful of fights over their career and there are a million variables dictating who they happen to meet inside the cage along that path. So it will continue to be an artificially curated process to some degree. But what I find annoying is that surely you can try to still make the belts as much about sporting merit and integrity as possible, parallel to making the most entertaining fights and narratives possible. Like, allow the belt to be contested by two guys with boring styles if they are the most effective competitors. Most of us will still be interested to some degree to follow what happens, who is at any one time ‘the ultimate fighter’. Meanwhile you embrace and promote the Colby’s of the world in interesting matchups coz we’ll all tune in for that too, for pure spectacle and emotional investment, regardless of whether there’s a belt at stake.

  • @DanAddison

    @DanAddison

    @@account-pb2dfwell because in many sports there is a system by which we get a very accurate picture of who the best is. Everyone competes against everyone, regularly, and success is an easily measurable cold hard fact. It’s still entertainment, totally. But it’s very different to just saying: Manchester United will play Chelsea once because of xyz backstory to do with personalities etc, and Tottenham will play Arsenal once, same thing, and that’ll happen separated by 2 years, and then we’ll just have to guess who is better between Arsenal and Chelsea, and then decide arbitrarily that one of those plays Liverpool for the trophy next year, and maybe Tottenham never happens to play Man Utd in their entire careers due to injuries or fickle public opinions never quite aligning…. Fight sports are so much more about narratives and emotions and unfalsifiable speculation than they are about pure objective measuring of worth with loads of data to build a clear picture. We all understand what is meant by ‘sport vs entertainment’ arguments when discussing who should get the next ufc title shot, it’s not a meaningless distinction.

    @@tukek88little bit over-cynical. I don’t think the badminton world champion arrived there through shady unseen market forces and I don’t think Usain Bolt covered 100m faster than everyone else as a result of some conspiracy to sell more Nikes. In most sports your popularity is almost irrelevant when compared with your ability, and the entertainment value it holds is drawn more from a deep well of competitiveness. Fighting, on the other hand, requires a ton of creative stage management. It’s very show biz.
