    Karen, de Kine taught us how to double your space with her shelves. If your bins are 5 inches high, you don't need a lot of space between them and the next shelf. I bet Joe could do it for you! 🙂

    new subscriber, nice vid! So on each shelf of 3 bins, that would mean that each week 1 of the 3 is ready for harvest - and then you rotate - and keep it going? That would be nice vs having to do them all constantly.

    More or less I judge on what the bedding looks like and what I am selling at the moment. The new bedding takes them longer to break down which makes it easier for me because I can wait in between a little longer before harvesting and the bedding maintains its moisture. Absolutely as far as having to do them all at once that would be insane😂 Plus having them indoors I control the environment. We are currently ready to add more😅

    @@TheGardenAndWormLady yeah, they breed fast and that growing population ends up being quite a responsibility. I have mine indoors too and I'd lose sleep worrying about pests and weather and disease. Indoors atleast a few fewer worries. :) I've been studying your ways and I enjoy your videos. The worm community is a friendly one indeed. Have a nice easter!!

    I might have missed it but how many worms do you add to your new bins?

  • @TheGardenAndWormLady

    @TheGardenAndWormLady

    2 жыл бұрын

    The bins stacked on the wall you can start up to a pound per tray. Or for every 1 gallon of bedding you add 100 worms. And you can calculate those measurements depending on what kind of bin or where you’re putting them. When I first started warm farming I don’t even know I had it was so little I didn’t even count them. I know some people that don’t measure anything and they just eyeball it and it seems to work.

    Based on the Brockwood Sifter specs, I think you mean 3/32" - of an inch, not centimeters. Also double check the screen sizes for Red Wigglers v European Night Crawlers too. Seems like screen hole size 1/8" & 1/4" are recommended for night crawlers. Here is screen sizing text from Brockwood: >>>We selected the 1/8″ and 3/32″ hole grid for casting separation and a 1/4″ and 1/8″ hole grid for cocoon separation. We make two specialized screens, for night crawlers 1/8″ & 1/4″ perforated aluminum panels and for red worms 3/32 and 1/8″ perforated aluminum panels. Night crawler eggs are larger than red worm eggs so two different screens are necessary.

    @@TheGardenAndWormLady Yes. Pricey. I have no doubt they are high quality. I too am trying to source & order screen for a vibrating table model screener for a worm project that can accommodate RWs & ENCs. Your 2 tiered gravity vibrator system is very adaptable to screens v an incline system which are better suited for hole punched flat screened "plates." Very interesting.

    So how many pounds of worms are in you mature bins

  • @TheGardenAndWormLady

    @TheGardenAndWormLady

    2 жыл бұрын

    When it grows several pounds sometimes when I harvest. You can start off a mature been with 1 pound of worms I wouldn’t do more than that. When I measure I start a bin and put 2 1/2 gallons of bedding and 100 worms per gallon so 250 worms total. Sometimes I do the measuring one sometimes I just wing it. The trick to getting a lot of worms not disturbing them if you can help it.

    So the recipe to feed the worms is Pete Moss some sand lime and chicken crumbles powered milk,all Mix together , the peat Moss or coconut coir or whatever you choose to use must be moist. The bedding is the same thing as above minus the powdered milk. I hope this helps and makes it more clear
