It beats hauling veg scraps back from the grocery store you work at. Plus, most Grocery stores are so locked up in regard to this. Not mine. but that's vegetable scraps. What kind of bedding do you use for the worms? I purchase mealworms from a from a breeder for my bearded dragon.

  • @TheGardenAndWormLady
    @TheGardenAndWormLadyКүн бұрын

    @@landhermitcrabeducenter I use two different types, depending on what I could find and the price. I use Peat Moss but it can be a little acidic so you have to add dolomite lime. My favorite bedding to use is coconut coir, it comes in bricks. It’s neutral no need for dolomite lime. Most commercial warm farmers use Peat moss but I also use shredded cardboard, shredded newspaper leaves, they absolutely love leaves and the blackest castings I’ve ever gotten was when I feed leaves. I’ve never raised mealworms.

    Hello Vee. The anaerobic environment produces acidic pH and toxic gases. The toxic gases might be the first one to affect the worms first. So that super sticky smell you felt, well those worms (with less mass than you) face it right at the source. So to vent out the toxic gases, one have to serious aerate the bin. This means that you have to remove both layers of coverings that you put on the worm bin, and I think that plastic cover particularly blocks a lot of air flowing in/out. Removing both covers would be helpful for future anaerobic challenges. As well, with both covers remove, much more oxygen would flow through, which seriously slows down the anaerobic process producing the toxic gases. I like that you added new material to dilute the anaerobic materials and create more space for air to potentially go in/out. Also, can you tell me about your sweet water video speeding up feeding, if you have one?

    I had to do a search online to find out what a Wyze camera is. I watched a guy do an unboxing of something called the "V3" and he prepared a short demo of the view of the skyline & clouds from his balcony. He also set it up to activate at sunrise to shoot that as well. Seems like a fairly basic but useable device.The straight out of camera footage had to be converted to be compatible with his video editing software - and he left on the 'Wyze' logo imprint, the time/date stamp & a box that appears when it senses a human face. He said these things can all be turned off. If you provided some more details about which model camera you have, what worked well... what didn't.... etc. - and perhaps see if you can post the finished product of your 30 day attempt so it can be checked out.... then there'd be a great deal more to evaluate as far as what the good, the bad & the ugly were Glad to provide input - but I need more info :)

    Thanks for this video. Hate to see it. The smell is the best indicator that the issue was overfeeding/ not enough bedding. The worms don't absorb much of the nutrients on each pass so overfeeding can sneak up on you. Especially if you aren't using finished material as a base bedding.
