The Maw is a private establishment run by the lady. Her profile says that, “While the world outside is going insane, this will be her domain of order”. I also don’t believe The Maw’s employees are slaves, because of the aforementioned private business. Both The Janitor and Chefs have their own rooms and accommodation, and we see one of the chefs having a smoke break while The Janitor has a hobby of collecting things and making dolls, something I’m pretty sure slave masters wouldn’t be too big on. It helps that The Lady doesn’t really seem to be running The Maw with an iron fist, as all the employees are working independently from one another. There is no man with a whip to get on the Janitor’s and Chefs cases for taking breaks and enjoying their hobbies. They willingly do the work they are expected to, and have no outside intervention, unlike the Butler’s shackles.

I agree. I think that the enslavery theory (as far as we are talking about the Maw) was brought on by the assumption some fans made about the "good nature" of the Janitor: some thought that he was trying to protect the children, and that he meant no harm. ... Which, I think, it's very dissonant with his actions! I mean, no one who wants to protect somebody also put them in suffocating cages, waits for them to be paralized with terror, wrap them and sends them to the kitchen. Also, I think that the "evolution" theory explained in this video is, of course, interesting, but incorrect. From the few pieces of information we have about the Janitor, for example, we know that he himself consciously decided to retire from the outside world and live in the Maw. It's not a job he inherited by someone; there is no "janitor family".

Looks more like a simple inhabitant of the depths of the Maw kept alive (and quiet) by someone who feeds her rotten fishes (maybe Roger).

That's very interesting, Katy, the origins of Six's hunger is still uncertain (the creators haven't explained what it really is yet). However, if you remember, in Very Little Nightmares, when finally the girl with the yellow coat makes it to the outside, she is running for her life FROM Six, too! She locks her out of the cabinet (... was it a cabinet? Or a box room? Sorry, I don't remember this particular), even if Six's violently knocking the door to get in, probably in a hunger attack. So, it seems that Six suffered from this horrible "hunger attacks" before the girl with the yellow coat died. Also, I don't see why she would hunt Six. But, again, it's a very interesting theory!

@@awesomefox555 Whatever she is, it's important to note that Six doesn't appear to suffer from hunger strikes until _after_ she gets to the Maw. In Very Little Nightmares, even though she's only seen a small handful of times, never is she shown to get big hunger attacks in any scene she's in like she did in the first Little Nightmares. Considering that Very Little Nightmares is confirmed to be a prequel, it's safe to say that something must've happened between VLN and LN that suddenly afflicted Six with big hunger pangs. Is it the ghost of the girl she failed to save? Is it the spirit of the Maw attempting to possess her? We may not know for sure, but that little fact - the fact that it only started to happen _after_ Six was taken to the Maw - has to be taken into account whenever any theorizing about Six and her origins and/or powers is happening.

Do you remember that scene from Very Little Nightmares in which the girl with the yellow coat is finally outside the Nest, with Six following her? Suddenly the girl manages to reach a cabinet, and she locks herself in, preventing Six to get in, even if she punches the door angrily. If Six was just another runaway child like anyone else, why would have the girl locked her out so anxiously? May gamers supposed that in that moment Six was having a hunger attack, and the girl was desperately hiding even from her, in that specific moment (poor girl, what a crappy day she had)!. However, Six does not manifest those hunger symptoms that we saw in Little Nightmares. So this theory has its weaknesses, too. The whole "hunger" matter is very obscure. I would reject the theory about Dark Six being the Girl with the yellow coat, because... why should she hunt someone who was trying to help her? Her death was not caused by Six. So, well, all I can say is that I'm frustrated because I CANNOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING THAT'S GOING ON AND THE MORE WE GO ON THE MORE WE ARE CONFUSED, ... **sigh** I have SO many questions.

This is actually a super satisfying (for Little Nightmares, anyway) explanation of how the world seems to work in LN. Savage, merciless, and favoring the brutal and strong over the compassionate and/or weak. The *_only_* flaw I can find is that I don't think The Lady was actually in cahoots with the Signal Man; the reason I think this is in her own bio on the Little Nightmares website, wherein it states the following: *"Amidst the chaos of the world outside, The Maw is **_the only place_** that makes sense, and now this rumour of an escaped child threatens everything."* This one sentence not only shows that The Lady and her establishment are separated from the ongoings of the Mainland - The Lady considers the outside world chaotic and favors the apparently controlled and "sensible" (very hard air quotes there) of The Maw - but that Six ruining everything for The Maw only affected The Maw since that one bio heavily implies that The Lady isn't answering to any higher authority; a single escaped child wouldn't at all be a threat to the Mainland's network of brainwashed citizens, only a threat to the carefully-maintained stability of the isolated Maw. With these two points in mind - the idea of an escaped kid threatening the system only making sense if The Maw is self-isolated and separate entity, _and_ the fact that The Lady views The Maw as a sort of shelter against the outside world's chaos - it seems *_highly_* unlikely that The Lady either gave support and/or was supported by the Signal Man and his regime on the Mainland. If anything, this bio seems to tell us that she actually *_opposed_* the Signal Man's dictatorship and set up a smaller scale version of her own in the form of The Maw, freeing herself from the supposed chaos the Signal Man inflicts on his slaves while still subjecting her employees to a similar level of cruelty and oppression under her mystic powers. Other than this part, though, everything in the video matches up and is explained perfectly for any beginners to Little Nightmares! *Well done, sir!*

@@icantsing2492 Yep. She sees the Signal Tower's rule over the mainland as chaotic and hell-ish, no order whatsoever. Based on the profile on the website, it seems The Maw is a sort of "escape" from the Signal Tower's iron fist; "Amidst the chaos of the world outside [the Pale City], The Maw is the only place that makes sense," and so far this is true: in the 15 minutes of LN2's gameplay, the outside world that Mono travels through _IS_ more chaotic and messy than The Maw (psychos in and just outside the Pale City like The Hunter and living mannequins roam around and kill without a superior to keep them in line, whereas The Maw's monsters like the Janitor and Chefs are kept in line by The Lady). The Lady sees the Broadcaster as being far too lax and/or messy with too few rules to keep people in line (and as weird as it is to say this, she's right; all the Broadcaster's signals do are turn people into mindless zombies, not actually making them into truly obedient and productive workers), and we see in-game that The Maw is governed a lot stricter and with more rules (i.e. The Janitor never goes into or past the Kitchen, the Chefs only work on food, etc) than the Pale City is by the Broadcaster. To sum it up, The Lady was basically using The Maw as a passive rebellion against the Broadcaster's chaos; both of them are awful monsters, but at least The Lady keeps her territory organized and its subjects in order rather than a bloody wild free-for-all like the Pale City is under the Signal Tower. Which is worse, an orderly deathtrap like The Maw or a law-less wasteland like the Pale City? As they say, between a rock and a hard place... or in this case, "between the Devil and the deep blue Sea".

Here's a theory: Everyone in the Little Nightmares world has some sort of supernatural/spiritual energy. But some have more energy than others which explains the predator-prey hierarchy in the game. Some people are born with very little and thus enslaved and those with enough to do things like levitate objects like The Butler are still enslaved but are not suffering like the Gnomes. While people like The Lady who can turn children into gnomes are given high positions such as overseeing the Maw. My guess is that this power is not hereditary and The Pretender was specially selected to inherit the position of the Lady. While the Hanging Man who was her father/guardian was brought along with her to the Nest to ensure she cooperates. When she died in Very Little Nightmares the Hanging Man hung himself knowing he won't be of any use to the people in charge as he was an ordinary person compared to the Butler. I came up with this theory when I thought of how Six's appetite became stranger as the first game went on. It's possible she went on without food for such a long period of time that she used the supernatural energy in her to supplement as food which leads to her lacking the supernatural energy needed for her body to function and was on the death's doorstep every time she got hungry. The piece of bread and sausage she ate satisfied her for the first two times she got hungry but they weren't enough for her need for supernatural energy that why she ate the rat and the Gnome later in the game. As living things they have their own stores of energy and were able to satisfy her to the extent that she needed more. It's also possible because of this Six has the ability to drain the energy out of others and use it for herself as we see with the Lady. She just need more energy to use her powers.

From what I'm getting from this, children are an important cog in the system. Does that mean that whoever is controlling that tower is making women get pregnant and giving birth to children? With the whole mind control thing, it's not so far fetched that they would have a large baby making factory, and because they are newly born, they aren't susceptible to the mind control the tower is giving out which might explain Mono and Six and that mysterious girl in the Raincoat in Very Little Nightmares

After all the times I've watched and re-watched Little Nightmares I have never seen that little shadow Six that appears when she eats until you pointed it out. That was a shock to me.

The theory is great but I still have one question. In the *Official Little Nightmare website* they stated that *The Maw* was the only place that actually made sense in this world and was considered a *“safe place”* compared to the *Mainland*

My theory is that every child in the Little Nightmares universe is born normally at first, but as they grow older they begin to become more and more distorted from TV signals, growing into the monsters we see all around the world of this game. As to where they're coming from? Still a mystery to me. I'd like to think as soon as they grow older (as children) they're taken away to god knows what kind of fate, such as the maw or the school, for some unexplained reason. I guess adults in this universe hold a certain grudge towards them?

Also, forgot to mention, I think the Pretender is not really meant to be the successor of the Lady, but rather a failed "Lady". Remember, the Lady uses the children to keep the world "running", while the Pretender seems to use them for her personal amusement, plus her name itself seems to be a huge clue: The *Pretender*.

I love all little nightmares theories, they created such a mysterious world with so much details for fans to speculate. It's all so dark and ruthless. If I live in this world, I would not :D I'm scared of everything :D

In the description of the character, didn't the Janitor run away to the Maw? I sincerely doubt he was raised there in a family that was there for generations.

I still dont understand why they are so small, and just, the normal humans in this world, like the ones controlled by the broadcasts, are just normal size, when the children aren't. Im thinking either they really arent that small, and its just a illusion type thing, cause children feel generally small and scared when it comes to nightmares and people more powerful then them. Or they are just..made to be small when they are born?..cause of the hierarchy?..i feel like this one though, is kinda dumb and does not seem as neat.

I think people of pale city and the maw are not human at all but also probably doesn't look like their ancestors because of the radiation of the tower, maybe the lady and the pretender might be a mix or an exception to the rule where a human reaches an important place in the hierarchy, I dont think they would eat children of the same species, there must be a farm of people somewhere to produce children or they are stolen from human villages. that would explain it, they're different species, thats why there's a huge size diference. At least thats what i think, my theory uwu

Melancholia sometimes some people cant afford/arent allowed to purchase or download games (usually when theyre kids) & im a student who cant spend money on such things so i usually stick to watching gameplays. but i actually got to play through little nightmares on the switch yesterday for the first time :)

After learning about Very Little Nightmares, I was skeptical about whether that was actually Six in LN2, or just the next wearer of the yellow raincoat, but if the game description says so, then I'll accept it for now. There is evidence that things in this world were not always as chaotic and horrifying as they are now, but it is clear that people and monsters with supernatural powers and grotesque mutations have shifted the balance and many minds have lost all sense of reason. I initially believed that the change in the world happened fairly recently, because otherwise the human race would have gone extinct if it continued to feast on their children. Which does beg the following questions: If the world is as messed up as it is and its inhabitants have turned into monsters, where did these seemingly normal children come from? Where are their parents? What happened to their parents? Are there still places in the world where people haven't lost all of their humanity? But then there is the matter of their names. Mono (One) and Six. Children being given numbers instead of names, as if they were objects, like currency as you described in the video. Did their parents give them these names or were they given after imprisonment? So many questions about a world that has fallen into ruin.

Sorry for any errors in the text. I'm not an english speaking person. I agree that the world of little nightmares has not always been under the dictatorship of supernatural beings. Playgrounds, shops and other signs of modern civilization can be seen in the Pale City, which hints at the post-apocalyptic setting of this game. Although it is currently unknown when all power passed into the hands of these beings, healthy people still exist in this world. In a comic book of the same universe, a creature is mentioned - "North Wind". He is a sadistic and powerful inhabitant of uncharted lands, where he destroys every city he meets like the proverbial kaiju. The main characters of this comic come from a village in these parts, devastated by the North Wind. This indicates that in the world of little nightmares, there are places where people have not undergone radical changes and are able to raise children, albeit suffering terror from supernatural disasters. There are different options here. Perhaps in this world there is an analogue of the distribution of territories between the most powerful entities, where a pale city is ruled by a thin man and its population has changed under the influence of his forces. Other lands are under the dictatorship of other rulers and the conditional life is better there. A more probable case is that although human civilization was destroyed by monsters with supernatural abilities, most of the population remained alive and is of no practical interest to the current "government". Unable to fight back or change the situation, they try to preserve the centers of human culture in the world of the new order, like cities and villages destroyed by the North Wind.

Y'know, I always did find it out how Mono completely covers their head (has it even been confirmed that Mono's a guy?) with that bag. Even though other characters like Six, The Lady and The Craftsman wear things that cover their face, Mono is the first I've seen who seems to go out of their way to completely obscure their entire head. Either he's as insecure about his face as The Lady was (which is unlikely so far), or he's trying to hide his identity from others... specifically, the Tall Man who's running the whole operation. Heck, Six killed the Lady but even she doesn't seem too worried about people finding out who she is, so Mono must have a _really_ good and scary reason to be hiding his face from the world.

Because in little nightmares 2 six was never hungry but at the end of the game there is a dark version of six and the dark version is looking at a poster of the place where little nightmares 1 began at and then when the dark version disappeared six became hungry

I would love if this theory is in line with what's going to happen in Little Nightmares 2

Now bear with me: A 4 player coop 3rd game with 7 choosable characters, each correlating to a deadly sin. Let’s say the amount of “hits” each character can take is different and they each fill a different niche. Like say Six is Gluttony (because hunger n stuff) and dies in one attack but she can shred enemies. Or say a Wrath character that can take 3 hits and is meant to be a frontline fighter protecting the other 3 players while they solve puzzles. Envy could choose which character the mimic out of the other 3 and basically stack them. A Sloth could be a biggun meant to take hits more than fight. Pride which I guess could be Mono can teleport or control enemies. Greed can see where puzzle items are or have some indicator for it. And lust could heal. But the plot of the game itself follows something like cleaning up the rest of the bad guys with the newfound allies with them becoming little nightmares.

Sadly Six & Mono can't save it because she left him in the Signal Tower in Pale City (pretty sure it was bc she saw the future Thin Man in him and left him trying to prevent it)

I dunno if this is relatable but MONO (MONOS) in Greek mean single-alone!!!

If Six really possessed a degree of supernatural powers before taking from The Lady as you say, then it's possible that she herself was a candidate much like The Pretender and perhaps Mono but ran away and/or was deemed a failure to be disposed of.

It would explain why she was even in The Nest to begin with. Although we know Six got her raincoat from the Stray Girl at the end of VLN, it's never explained _how_ she even got to The Nest to meet the Stray Girl in the first place. Given The Nest sits atop a giant cliff over a thin island, it's unlikely she rode a boat there on her own, and there's no evidence she somehow rode a hot air balloon there like the Stray Girl did. A good explanation, like you said, then, is that Six _was_ a candidate to inherit a position of power in the world but her powers didn't fully manifest (if at all) and was replaced by the Pretender, leading her to escape and fully steal supernatural powers from The Lady in LN.

Even if, now that I mention it, I realize that the girl in the yellow coat is NOT supposed to be Six, ... I mean, would the children living in the Maw already know that Six took the Stray Girl's raincoat, or were they simply drawing the Stray Girl? theory: Thin Man and Mono exist in a time paradox, as it is revealed that Mono grows up to become the Thin Man after Six leaves him for dead in the Black Tower, trapping Mono in its depths and causing him to fester in resentment as he ages, creating an all-too-familiar monster. (Sry if im late but DUDE i love this video makes a lot of sense keep it up😄😄😄)
