    Actually the Janitor's name is "Roger" because that's the name the badge on his coat shows. It was first brought to light by the data mine that was performed on the game, where it gave a detailed view of each of the characters' in-game models and when looking closely at the Janitor's badge you could see, as clear as day, the name "Roger". The janitor has this badge on in-game and you can just about see the name "Roger" on it when you catch the light right, because the devs have hidden it very well. The only thing that's really stopping this fact from being counted as canon is the fact that the devs haven't said anything about it, they have neither denied it or confirmed it. But concerning the data mine, they did say that everything you see in the data mine and can also see in the game is canon. Anything you see in the data mine but not in-game is not canon. The Janitor's name badge can be seen in both, so it is counted as canon by most of the community. I hope my information was helpful :)

    6:08. I think the room of shoes may also represent the Holocaust as well. I believe this because when I visited the Holocaust museum in Washington D.C with my friends I can clearly remember the room that was filled with all of the shoes of the people that died during the Holocaust. When I saw this in the game I had the same feeling that I felt when I was in the room of well. I couldn't even look around those room without feeling a mix of fear and utter disgust. :(

    I thought the masks represented the facades sick people like this pull when meeting the external world outside from their dark jobs. Not everyone in the game wore a mask, despite being hideous looking (aka being literal and metaphorical monsters). I took this as a way to show that there are people who hide it from others, perhaps in shame, perhaps in a chance to pull more victims into their sick game while there's some who just let their monstrosity show without any bit of regret. This is how I took each character's mask: *Six (NOT A MASK, I KNOW, BUT HER FACE WASN'T REALLY SHOWN IN-GAME EITHER):* Six's face was always shadowed by the yellow coat and her hair. This could mean how she wasn't really "someone," just another kid at a facility. Just another worker. Just another soul. Perhaps she didn't even get a name and didn't know when she was born. She was just "someone else." Yet, still, her yellow raincoat made her stand out. There was something about her that made her different. Perhaps it was her deteriorating sanity or her courage (given that other kids in the cages didn't seem to have enough bravery to try and get out, in fear they might get punished and even killed). Either way, she stood out from the rest. *The Janitor:* He seems to not have a mask to cover his face, just his eyes. This gave me the impression that he does not feel remorse for what he does, yet remains "blind" to it. Kind of like when you see someone being bullied and you decide to ignore it. Like he was ignoring what was going on and just acted on instinct, doing what he was taught to do, not questioning anything. Which also explains the animal-like way he moves his head and hands when he's looking for kids. *The chefs:* They seem to be wearing masks at all times. Monster-like ones. They hide their true self but the facade they use is not good either. That's about all I got from them lol. *The guests:* Not every guest wears a mask, making me believe some of them are careless about their crimes. *The Lady:* Now hear me out. The Lady wears a mask with a doll-like appearance. She seems to be pulling out a formal and elegant-looking facade, only to take it out when she's by herself, revealing her real monstrous face. She seems to only do this when she's completely alone, as when Six comes and The Lady notices her, she puts it on again. This can be seen as those twisted type of people who pull an innocent sin-free persona when they're surrounded with other people and take that "mask" off when they're alone. She also seems to hate her appearance, seen by the many broken mirrors. She's fully aware of how hideous she is, can't bear looking at herself in the mirror, but doesn't care enough to do something about it.

    In these situations your down to two options either you turn into wat torments you or you become self aware enough to rise above it and learn from the mistakes of others or from their actions This game always reminds me of the quote " people like that eat little girls like you alive " I can remember that saying (as fucked up as it is) since I was an actual little girl ... so when we start out we are all innocent We either retain a little of that innocence or the world shows itsDarker side and we live through some of those horrible things ,when push comes to Shove the "World" Or the People in it Either Devour us and break us or we Break It

    This theory holds up in Little Nightmares 2. Only instead of surviving a harsh poverty childhood, Mono is an everyman who works for a corporation (maybe a media one?)- surviving seeing the fallout of his own corporation's actions (the lifeless, manipulated population)- only to rise the ranks to be an enforcer to the corporation he despises. Six may have also dropped him because she sees no kinship with someone of a different class, or someone who she thinks had more "choice" in the matter than she did in her own life. Maybe she thinks he deserves to be there. Perhaps by 'absorbing' or imitating him was what put Six on the path of wanting to rise the ranks herself.

    I love watching your videos, especially the BATIM videos. But I have a question... I've never played this game before, but if six grows up to become the lady; would it be possible to theorize that this game is the lady's back story and history of her childhood growing up in the child slave industry, and then she gets out when she's in her teens, becomes a geisha; becomes one of the most requested and therefore used geisha's, rises up through the ranks and eventually starts her own clothing line through child slavery. I think it's really cool how you break down the game and find the hidden messages, themes and references; I find that after I watch your videos, I am able enjoy the games on a more deeper level.

    Ive always thought of Little Nightmares as a metaphor for horrible trauma throughout Sixes childhood years. One of this guys newer vids about the story explains the way the Counties work in line with the shadow realm I believe it’s called. (Might be something else). As in the Counties being the real world, the children like Mono, Six/Sisi, and Otto in someways experienced trauma in. Then, the shadow realm, a place they go to to escape the adults or exploiters etc. In the real world. For example, if you’ve seen the game OMORI, Omori, being a traumatized child has the “white space” as his place he goes to during horrible depression or trauma in real life. This has always made sense to me as each monster throughout the journey of Six could represent a different type of trauma. She runs from these monsters who represent the adults who have hurt her. So does Mono. And Otto. Tying in this all to the Ferryman, Otto has deep memories of him from taking his sister, Sisi, from him. We learn throughout the comic and more theorizing that the Ferryman saves children from their trauma in the real world or the countries. I haven’t been able to find any good summaries of this theory yet. Does any one have this theory too?

    Thank you. A very interesting theory and it seems accurate... except for the end. I think you got it wrong there. Six uses her new power to escape from the Maw and be free, which is the opposite of what you say. She eats the nome and the lady because she is hungry (there's more room for negative interpretation there), she kills those guests because they are in her way to freedom (maybe that represents the end of the children eating system or maybe not, I don't know: Six probably doesn't care anyway) and, finally, she escapes - she is free. The intensity of the sunlight in the scene where she climbs the stairs and in the post-credit scene clearly indicates a happy ending for Six, like the end of the nightmare (we even hear the air horn of a ship, meaning further way of escape and suggesting success). Whether that contradicts the idea that Six (a child) doesn't deserve it or something, it doesn't change that the narrative of this game is very clear in this regard. I think so, anyway.

  • @paperbagboi3185

    @paperbagboi3185

    Жыл бұрын

    There is conflicting information about if she escaped the Maw or not. In one interview the narrative designer of the game questioned if she ever truly escaped, suggesting that perhaps she didn’t. The official Twitter of the game outright says she was one of the few children that were able to shake off from the Maw (meaning she most likely escaped) And personally so much of her journey and descriptions suggest that she doesn’t belong there and that she has a desire to escape. Even though the ending is up to interpretation I’d like to think it meant that she was able to escape and that the Maw system collapsed on and in itself (with all the guest and the lady dying)

  • @paperbagboi3185

    @paperbagboi3185

    Жыл бұрын

    The sound of horn of a ship worried me a little because even though it could be true that it may have been a way for Six to escape, it could very well also be another round of guest coming to the Maw. And when the game ends you have to *press B* (which reads: Press B to go back) to finish the game. Is that a subtle way to show that Six went back to Maw? Or is that reading too much into things?

Also, Geisha weren't prostitutes, they didn't have to do "unspeakable things", in fact, they were among the most independently wealthy and respected people in ancient Japanese culture. Sorry that I'm late to this video but I think the actual story is that Six was brought onto the ship by a fisherman(or the mysterious Bellman) to stop The Lady from continuing her work, but the thing is Six may have known about her power and the ending was the plan all along. Her power is similar to The Lady's but she can only gain power and energy by eating the victim. If you read the comics it has other things to say but it is my opinion.

  • @Mickie934
    @Mickie934 Жыл бұрын

    I have another theory (spoilers ahead). It's about eating disorders stemming from the pressure girls endure to be thin, cute, and youthful and the fear of being consumed by the other. In Japan, this pressure is especially present. Girls must be kawaii (cute and childlike) and face the scrutiny of other kids and foreigners. A big part of this means forsaking food. Supporting this theory is the Japanese imagery of a geisha in a noh mask, the rice paper doors seen in the game, the shattered mirrors, and the use of a mirror on the geisha to defeat her. The Maw represents Japan, constantly taking in "fat" foreigners to feed their endless hunger (no offense meant. This is just the viewpoint seen in the game). I am part Japanese and studied in Japan so I see cultural clues that Westerners wouldn't see through their personal cultural windows. When I was studying in Japan, I noticed women ate very little around men. When I asked my classmates why, they said "kawaijanai." --It's not cute. My wife also encountered this. When she was in Japan and would go out on a date, Japanese men were disgusted when she ate more than they did. It just wasn't kawaii. The pressure to be cute starts young. I studied in Japan from middle school to college. I saw that the need of middle school girls to attract the attention of boys meant being kawaii. They would starve themselves of food to be thin and act and talk like six-year olds. Navigating the Maw (Japan) is perilous for girls. Trying to hide your body (with a yellow raincoat) brings the attention of others. The eyes upon you can turn you to stone. The protagonist's ravenous hunger only grows throughout the game. She starts small, a piece of bread, but her hunger only gets worse. Food is everywhere. The foreigners eat everything around her. They even try to consume her. If you've ever been to Tokyo, you'll see this everywhere. Foreigners will eat and drink themselves into a stupor and chase Japanese girls trying to get a date. Eventually, the protagonist betrays herself and eats whatever she can get her hands on. Eating becomes a shameful act. Something done out of eyesight. Thus, eating and ageing becomes evil. The only way out is to avoid detection. Gorge yourself when no one is looking. My female friends in Japan would only eat when no one was looking. The geisha, who represents ageing and eating disorders, went through the same process. She is thin but hides her face with a mask. She can't stomach the sight of her face because she has aged. She shatters all the mirrors and is horrified by the sight of her own face. The protagonist defeats her and consumes her. She has conquered the dark mistress of the Maw. She has conquered her hunger and destroys those that try to touch her. This is her apotheosis. She no longer cares for the opinions of others and can break them. Only by facing your fears, internalizing and breaking them, can you defeat fear itself. And this is what I believe the game means.
