How The War Escalated in Ukraine | The Russell Howard Hour

Last weekend I played in Game4Ukraine a charity football match raising money in support of Ukraine, so this compilation from The Russell Howard Hour is looking at how Ukrainians are boldly defying Putin. Link to donate to Game4Ukraine: www.game4ukraine.com

I live in a coastal South Carolina tourist town. And tourists will wear the craziest t-shirts, so you become kinda immune to NSFW in your face on someone’s chest. Really don’t even notice the design nowadays… But I was at the grocery store this past Sunday and saw an older gentleman (in his 70’s?) in a t-shirt that said “Puck Futjn”…. I just giggled, complimented him and he said “my mom is up there (points up) either rollin’ her eyes or laughin’ her ass off! But she was Ukrainian so I’m pretty sure she’s lovin’ it!!” Coolest dude I met this summer.

Russell is definitely one of the best satirists of our era! He makes us laugh, even as we want to cry, given our understanding of the severity of what Putin is doing to the Ukraine, and also to his own people. 16 "Oligarchs' mysteriously dying? I smell a leader who is fearful of those who might have the courage to oppose him.

I watch an ex-teacher on youtube and he's previously talked about how not following through on threats loses you credibility. For example if a teacher says "The next kid to make a noise in this classroom gets expelled" and then doesn't follow through with it. Biden's response avoids falling into this trap without saying something too vague such as "Well, there would be consequences."

Trump is against the war in Ukraine & wouldn’t have sounded soft when saying don’t; Biden said “don’t” with weak intonation. Playing Devil’s Advocate for an actual racist fascist bigot like Biden is weird, do your own research.

The fact is that if you totally disbelieve that the other side would use using nuclear weapons in certain circumstances only makes the use of them all the more likely! Call my bluff, which is what you want us to do, when there are nuclear weapons involved is insane! The Cuban missile crisis was resolved peacefully because both sides believed that the other side would use nuclear weapons in certain circumstances.

To be fair, this one got reuploaded because they mistakenly labelled some of the dates as being from 2023, leading to people making fun of Russell for time-travelling into the future to deliver us news. Not saying the constant reuse of the same material doesn't get old, but it's a slightly different case here.

Russian people are not against the war, they just don't want to fight it themselves. No country should let them in, even if they manage to leave.

We are fighting, what are you talking about? It's Ukrainian side - the one full of mix-match of NATO forces, like Polish, Swedish, etc.Thoes, who for some reason run away from Russia - thoes are rats, we don't claim them. I agree, don't let them in your country, let 'em suffer, let 'em feel western "hospitality" to its fullness, so that they know the difference.

@@bibitiptoes1473they're saying Russians are a bunch of "apolitical cowards", willing to support the war right up until they get their own conscription notice and have to put their own neck on the line. Hence the tens of thousands that ran away the moment forced conscription became a thing.

The US and Russia have the same amount of nukes. The US budget to maintain it's nukes is roughly the same as russia's entire military budget. In other words, not all nukes are maintained. There have been reports of nukes being stripped of wires and fuel. Russia also launched nuke rockets without the nuclear warhead, because they run low on rockets. In other words, Russias nuclear might isn't as strong as Putin thinks.

At this point I have realized when Putin, or Russia, think that they have anything 'modern' or 'advanced' what they really mean is that it is modern and advanced for the 1990s... Sure, their T-14 is worrisome... ... if they had more than 4 functioning T-14s it'd be an issue... also... ... no tank is really worrisome in the face of an AC-130 with two F22 escorts... I'd mention the A-10 but our Airforce has just retired them without a replacement so thats great... fucking near a trillion dollars a year on our military budget and they are retiring the most reliable close air-ground support aircraft in the world without a replacement that is better in any way at all...
