I met Mitchell Johnson at a tattoo convention in Perth. It was like no one in the place knew one of the greatest Australian sportsmen of all time. When I noticed him I said " holy shit your Mitchell Johnson" he just smiled and said hey mate and continued to just carry on getting tattooed. My favourite memories as a kid was watching him bowl and trying to emulate him on the weekend in under 12s cricket.

That glorious summer of 2013/14 was something else. Between the Ashes and the South African series, Mitch took 59 wickets in 8 tests at a touch over 15. That's absolutely devastating in anyone's language and it got people excited about hostile fast bowling again. He had spent the better part of the last decade with injuries or getting hit all around the park with figures like 0-150 or 1-120. He was dropped from Aussie squad in favour of Mitch Starc in 2013 especially after his homework gate saga with Mickey Arthur. So he opted for the IPL and did brilliantly for MI taking 22 wickets with his swing and guile which helped him make a comeback for the odi series Vs India. That series impressed the new coach Lehman and he got a comeback into test side for the Ashes and he terrorised the English with his pace. Meanwhile Starc got dropped from the side and he signed with RCB in 2014. Rest his history

But BY FAR the most frightening spell of bowling I have ever seen was Mitchell Johnson’s 4 overs late on day 2 in the 13/14 series. Johnson was unbelievable - the speed gun was registering 148kph but that did not tell the full story. Guys were getting smashed on the helmet, the armpit, the arm guard, playing and missing, throwing themselves out of the way. Michael Carberry got caught at leg slip off a 148kph ball that nearly knocked his head off. It was the most insane and frightening spell of fast bowling I have ever seen, nothing comes close.

I don't remember the date, but a few series back the barmy army has said something bad of sorts to mitch. Guess what, he comes on to bowl the next over, hits garry ballance flush in the helmet and silences the entire crowd Coming to this series, in the 1st innings at brisbane, he has started an actual casual spell against michael carberry, that black faced man when one of his rather slow bouncers had brought serious scare in his eyes A few deliveries later, carberry was dismissed of a bouncer by mitch himself Even after being an indian, its great to see the aussie attack dismantle the english batting line up for fun one series after the other. For the englishman can hardly do anything other than criticising pitches in test cricket, and yet, can't make batting friendly wickets like india and australia

Also, cracks on the pitch causing sideways deviation RARELY get wickets. Definitely the exception than the rule, which is why wickets like Ambrose v Blewett Perth 97, and Starc v NZ 2019?? are such standouts. It may cause some consternation, but for a test level batsman should not be of any great concern

Harbhajan Singh took 32 wickets in 3 tests verses a much more intimidating Australian team. Why is that any lesser achievement and how that didn't change cricket. Johnson took 37 wickets in 5 test. If you compare the series situation, the opposition and quality of bowlers at the other end, Harbhajan's achievement is much more significant. Johnson bowled good no doubt. But it was not any cricket changing bowling. PLEASE STOP SPREADING THIS FALSE PROPAGANDA GLORIFYING SOME PLAYERS MORE THAN THEY DESERVE TO.
