Nah he got a LOT of chances. How can you say he was underrated? When he was on, he was world class - terrifying. When he was cold, he left you a bowler short. Would go for over 4 an over, would give LOADS of tripe. Ended many innings giving huge momentum to the opposition team. His rhythm and confidence was EVERYTHING. When he is clearly cold and needs a boost to confidence, what is the right solution? Do you keep feeding him to international batting or do you ask him to go back to state and get confidence and rhythm back? Like Watto and all his injuries, I argue that trying to find your feet when you are floundering at International level probably isn't the right call. It left Australia a player short in so many games on the punt that he somehow can pull himself into rhythm in the fire of world class batting? Just doesn't make sense to me.

This is an interesting Test in that when you think of Mitchell Johnson destroying batting line-ups you think of the 2013/4 Ashes and the tactics he employed there: short, fast, getting batsmen caught behind fending off deliveries. Here he got his wickets through bowling full and swinging the ball: many lbws and bowled. Still at great pace though.
@sarthakbhalerao10453 жыл бұрын
I still feel his career was short lived, don't know why, but feels like he retired too early
@grantss1
3 жыл бұрын
He did retire too early, and Australian pitches were to blame, I reckon. After he destroyed England in the 2013/4 Ashes Australian pitches became roads, as Cricket Australia and Channel 9 wanted to maximise revenue through Tests lasting 5 days, rather than the 3-4 they lasted in that series. This and the allure of easy money playing IPL and whatever the last T20 competition was would have convinced him to quit Test (and international) cricket. Final straw was the 2015 Perth Test where NZ ran up 624 and Johnson got 1/157 off 28 overs. He retired immediately after that Test.

Always interesting rewatching Johnson- such an odd career in retrospect. With how, at the time, inconsistent he was (prior to his late career resurgence from '13 to '14), it always takes me aback when I realise that he has more test wickets than Lee. He might have been all over the place and misused as an out-and-out swing bowler by Ponting, but he definitely had impact.

Swung a mile. Would’ve gotten most batsmen when swinging so much at that pace.
This is Johnson swinging the ball. We are more used to the sheer pace and bounce and brutality he showcased during 2013-14.

Yes yes...He was at his best....very hostile stuff from Johnson helped white wash England...
Mitchell Johnson was a slinger !! He used his shoulder so much. Swinging at that pace wud hv been any batsman's nightmare. And when he used to get it right, the results were thr to see. From 78-0 to 187 all out, that too on a flat pitch.
@MdsalamMd-cx1wc

There was fair amt of grass in that pitch in 2010 how that could be flat ?
4:29 that's young steve smith right there
This is an interesting Test in that when you think of Mitchell Johnson destroying batting line-ups you think of the 2013/4 Ashes and the tactics he employed there: short, fast, getting batsmen caught behind fending off deliveries. Here he got his wickets through bowling full and swinging the ball: many lbws and bowled. Still at great pace though.
I still feel his career was short lived, don't know why, but feels like he retired too early
@grantss1

Fiery spell from Johnson 🔥🔥🔥😍😍
Always interesting rewatching Johnson- such an odd career in retrospect. With how, at the time, inconsistent he was (prior to his late career resurgence from '13 to '14), it always takes me aback when I realise that he has more test wickets than Lee. He might have been all over the place and misused as an out-and-out swing bowler by Ponting, but he definitely had impact.
What a bowler Mitchell Johnson ❤❤❤❤
England was amazing in this series winning 3 matches by innings was commendable in Australia. . Thanks for sharing 🙏
One of the favourite 👍
One of the best ever spell of left arm fast bowling.... His arm is coming beautifully to get that pace and swing on the fuller length
Johnson was vicious in this era, pure animosity and pace.
0:01 that guy didn't get a high five
That is some SERIOUS fast bowling! You can manage to handle pace but to handle pace and swing, pray to God. When I first saw Johnson play against India in a tournament in Malaysia (I guess he was new to international cricket and picked up 5 wkts in a match that series), I thought to myself he's so fast and he's uncomfortable to face with that action.

A Mitchell Johnson special ⚡💥 . The wrecker- in chief , the sole reason Aus beat Eng in 2013-14 Ashes by the largest of margins.
The last great Aussie bowler. Stark could never fill that hole, Australia have constantly produced world class bowler one after another ever since the 80's. Hope Cummins can live up to that legacy now or Australia as a team is doomed with their declining batting line up

I remember this as a beautiful birthday present to Ricky Ponting. Punter got his pinkie broken trying to catch Trott in the slips and that was smack dab in the middle of Ponting's form slump. Nonetheless, an awesome test for Punter and co. to go to Melbourne with 1-1. Shame the boxing day test was such a disappointed.
Yes he did retire too early. Loved watching him (and his great mo)
Starting music , just can't resist
Brutal Johnson 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Amazing johnson
Yes that performance when England came to Australia was incredible. He basically won the series himself
Alarm bells were ringing in this test, the series defeat at home to SA in 2012 and Old Trafford 2013 that England were going to get trounced in the 13/14 Ashes
That England batting lineup was something else. No wonder they were the last team to win an ashes in Australia. Cook Strauss Trott Pietersen Collingwood Bell Prior
Mitch was a legit alrounder imo. Averaged over 22 with the bat in Test cricket, scored a Test ton against SA in SA with Steyn, Pollock, Ntini, Kallis, Adams bowling to him.
