To be honest most Australians hate it! They prefer the old days of Richie Benaud and Alan McGillvray where the commentary is more mellow and understated. Harsha Bhogle is really popular too when the Indians visit.

Plenty of other bowlers took more wickets, and few others were even faster than him. But Johnson is the only bowler I can think of who made such an impact on me in a series. That combination of fierce attitude, crowd support, speed, and wicket taking ability made him electrifying to watch and probably terrifying to face.

One thing I have understood : in Aus you need to have good reflexes to face high pace and bounce (apart from having a good technique) and no team except India (and SA between 2008-2014) have more than 3-4 batsmen in the same lineup with that capability (Eng in 2010-11 also had that ability). Indian batsmen in 2011-12 series were old and had lost their reflexes and got hammered 4-0. Otherwise they (and SA between 2008-2014) are the only teams who have done well in more than 1 tour to Aus.

Johnson was fearsome in this series. 145-150km/h thunderbolts with deadly accuracy. One of the best Ashes series to watch, every one of his overs brought fear to the poms.
Those few months in early 2014, the Ashes and the test series in South Africa (Destroyed my boys) Johnson was ethereal and absolutely terrifying. It was awesome seeing batsman scared and requiring regular underwear changes again after decades of flat tracks and short boundaries. Brought back memories of the 80s and early 90s.
Incredible ashes series he had. Quick, Accurate and had them truly scared for their lives. 5 Tests, 37 wickets @ 14
Thank Dennis Lillee. Johnson trained under Lillee during the preceding Australian winter and got his mojo back. Line, length, swing and control he hadn't had before, while still maintaining good pace and hostility. I think "Fot" may have also given him some tips on the care and maintenance of a moustache, lol.

I love commentators they keep us seat edge. Good work guys
That jump celebration thou. 🔥
This was the series of Johnson. No better description than that. Pure and unmatched dominance. Sheer aggression coupled with accuracy.
This Clarke-Hussey-Haddin-Johnson team was unlucky. Despite having many world class players they were sandwiched between two much greater eras of Australian cricket. They will never be remembered so fondly. Ponting's invincibles and Smith/Cummins' gentlemen. These will be remembered!
