I agree. Reality TV and fame is exploitative and traumatizing with ADULTS much less children. Like family channels, they can't really consent to being celebrities. It's like the Truman Show. Also, laws like the Coogan Laws that protect child labourers in film don't apply to reality TV. One of the Duggars had to sue to see any of their money. This is concerning.

Honestly Jojo’s first abuser was her mum, dying her hair as a toddler and pimping her out for stardom anyway she could, leading to the second abuser, Abbie who confounded it all and her mum who of course allowed any and every bit of it for the goal of stardom. They now continue this trend with the XO kids and Jojo does whatever her Mumager wants to keeps the career going and Jojo will defend both women with her life. It’s like the worst and weirdest type of Stockholm syndrome.

Yeah, cause she is being and has been groomed by Abby Lee Miller since she was a small child. It doesn't excuse her behavior, but like, when you're deep in it you literally cannot see outside of the world they create for you. You don't see them as abusive, or you gaslight yourself out of your feelings. Like she might genuinely not realize that Abby is her abuser, and cannot see that this is abuse. Because this is how she was treated, and that can't be abuse because then Abby would be abusive, and that conflicts with this world that your abuser creates for you, and you subconsciously shove that thought so deep down, until you truly believe they are not hurting you.

The JoJo "I'm not a kid anymore" era seems a lot weirder than Miley as she was a child star who got her start on Disney. JoJo independently built a brand of kids toys and accessories. It's like if Mr. Rogers turned up in a g-string, flipping us off. Uncanny valley territory. It would be more interesting to see her leverage her success into a more mature business model like fashion or something. I mean, she can't sing, but I'm assuming she learned a lot about branding over the years and could make the leap to doing something really cool and productive. This just seems like a big child overcompensating. Very much someone who didn't get to be a kid when they should have and now they're gonna be a weird, kinda inappropriate adult.

JoJo had all her branding through Nickelodeon (there was probably some independent stuff before that as they started with the bows). They were also the ones that backed her tour. They split with her after she finished the rescheduled tour, didn't help her cast that she publicly called out Nick for not wanting songs from The J Team in the tour (don't know who spilt with who, just telling that after the split she wasn't invited to the Kid's Choice Awards)

honestly while of course what JoJo said/did is bad (if it's true) the one who i really feel sick from in this whole scenario is Jessalynn. She bleached a toddler's hair, had JoJo do dance solos from like 2, 3 years old, dragged her to auditions from preschool age and forced her to sing basically, which JoJo hated. There was an absolute 0% chance of this going well and her avoiding the child star crash down. Now she's an adult herself and accountable for her own actions, but this girl never had a conscious moment that wasn't for fame and stardom and performing to the point of physical harm and i think that's something that needs to be taken into account.

Tbh I kinda see Jojo Siwa’s life as a case study. Someone who was born and raised to be a child start got older than the life plan her mom set up for her, what happens now? She does things that are absolutely messed up and abusive but it’s so glaringly obvious why she does those things that I can’t see it the same way as if it were someone else doing it. Like her defense of Colleen is so clearly because if Colleen grooms children, and was friends with Jojo when she was a child, then that would me Jojo was groomed, and that’s a hard reality to come to terms with so Colleen just wasn’t a groomer. I hope Jojo is able to wake up one day but if she keeps trying to be in the spotlight I doubt that will happen. I wish the best to all of her victims and the victims of those she supports.

As a survivor of grooming, I feel so fucking hard for her. Like, all the was I see her acting are very very clear signs that she is currently mimicking a lot of behaviors of her groomers, and she is likely so deep in it that she can't see out of it. Which happens. The things you believe when you are being groomed is kind of insane, you become a person molded to your groomer. The behavior on her show? Does that sounds like a certain dance instructor? Cause like the way she is treating these kids and their moms is *exactly* like Abby, her biggest groomer. And it's so haunting to watch, and I hope someday she gets out. I'm not saying this excuses her behaviors *at all* but, I think it's an important part of the conversation that gets left out

Not defending her actions but the future children tattoo thing could be a subconscious trauma response. Like the inner part of her being like "I want to take care of and raise a kid the way I wish I'd been taken care of/raised." Even though by all accounts she claims she was raised fine, I bet there's a part of her deep down that knows this isn't true and probably wants to "rectify" it by giving her own future kids a better life. EDIT: Okay after hearing about how she allegedly treated the kids on XOMG pop, there goes that theory out the window. I was just trying to have some faith in humanity 😪

The craziest part about Jojo clickbaiting her fans with the pregnancy content + the baby clothing hauls- is the fact that she has come out recently to say that she's "ready for kids" and wants to start a family, on top of saying in an interview that she already has a sperm donor for some reason (don't know if thats a joke or not). If that's not an insane form of foreshadowing then idk what is- also if her intent to have kids is actually real- that further implies/reinforces the dangerous cycle Jesslyn and Jojo are perpetuating due to Dance Moms

To be honest, like with the episode on Justin Timberlake, I don't believe the format of HTIFOOLW would be suitable for Jennifer Lopez, as her appeal does not align with the current cultural mindset of internet users; much of that material emerged after Trump's election. Lin Manuel Miranda, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Brendon Urie, etc. are definitely more of this current era of pop culture. Aside from _Hustlers_ and the halftime show, JLo's last significant surge in public presence was with "On the Floor" and _Love?_ , back in 2011. Now, she's pretty much a "legacy act", such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, Cher, Kylie Minogue, Mariah Carey, and Dolly Parton.

that's not bad. Loads of teachers do peer feedback so students can see how their peers perceive the and improve. Really important for someone who doesn't get a lot of feedback too. But it is key to also mix in good points as well which is what they did. It was probably a growth moment for her. If she'd had more feedback she might not have turned out this way

All I’ve gotta say is…poor Jojo. She had a very bad childhood from the start, and was definitely manipulated by the grownups when growing up. Now, she thinks it’s the right thing to do or doesn’t realize that what she is doing to the kids is wrong. Also, a suspicion is that the woman she is working with she might be scared of her based on how she treated her before, making her follow everything asked of her out of fear.

The "dressing up as a toy" aspect is quite common among kiddie stars. Check out every adult who made a career out of entertaining small children, they will almost always wear anything between pastel and neon when on the job and/or marketing their brand. Jojo was just a decade or three younger than her kiddie star peers. I once appreciated Jojo's existence because I think she was giving kidhood, especially girlhood, more room as an adolescent. She dressed up like a kiddie star when girls her age were immensely pressured to be sexy and revealing. But that fake pregnancy stint and the overall shitty grifting was 😬 That being said, Jojo is still an adolescent and probably doesn't recognize Colleen's grooming tactics. Wouldn't surprise me if she was also groomed, considering her upbringing left her with absolute zero defenses from it outside of her overly-controlling mom vetting them for her. It's really sad to see her trapped in the cycle.

I wanted to like JoJo because I saw her as an underdog, since everyone was hating on her for seeming childish and too big to be doing all that she was doing. And she's just kind of a bit much for me, then I stopped feeling sorry for her...

I actually thought she was really cute on Abby’s ultimate dance competition, and while she was very loud/obnoxious, she was also a kid. I feel like what leaves a bad taste in my mouth is how she repeatedly defends people that have done horrible things and just acts like everyone else is the problem. Or she’ll go after the other girls/moms from dance moms because they don’t like Abby. Like you can be grateful for your experiences without defending someone who abuses children and has caused severe trauma

I don’t blame her entirely because she’s been essentially used as a pawn by adults to make money for most of her life, but I think now we’re seeing in real time what happens to child stars who never truly breaks free from the entertainment industry. They become out of touch and too self involved.

Because she is now an adult, one with a lot of money. It is her responsibility to take care of these toxic behaviors. GO TO THERAPY. She can definitely afford it. I was severely abused as a child too, and I make far less than she does, and I went to years of therapy for this exact reason. No, you can’t control where you’ve come from and what you had to experience as a child. But you can control who you are and how you act as an adult. I get so sick of hearing this victim narrative from people when their negative behaviors are called out for being hurtful and wrong. It actually cheapens the meaning of the word victim because you are making it into an excuse to justify your abhorrent behavior and not do better. It’s disgusting, imo.

I never really cared for Jojo; she merely existed to me. I will say that I never grasped why people likened her to a modern-day Hannah Montana. While I recognize the "teen pop persona" she embodied, the distinction between Jojo and acts like Hannah Montana and the Cheetah Girls is that the latter were portraying characters. Hannah Montana was simply Miley Cyrus in a blonde wig, and Gabriella was just Raven Symone in a girl group. They starred in TV shows that demonstrated their abilities beyond performing-they could act and embody various roles. Jojo NEVER had her own show on Nickelodeon; she was just a singer-dancer for the network. This is strange, cuz after Jojo's time on the network, Nickelodeon now has Lil Tay Tay and Young Dylan, whom they are positioning them to follow in JoJo's footsteps, now giving them their own TV shows. Still, those poor children don't possess any personality or musical talent. Similarly, while JoJo is an exceptional dancer, her songs may not resonate as strongly when compared to the works of Hannah Montana and The Cheetah Girls. Being a teen pop star often involves adhering to a specific brand, and one must evolve from that. Jojo never did. Taylor Swift, although never an actor in a tween sitcom for Disney or Nick, still appealed to a young audience with her aesthetic. She successfully reinvented herself with each album; as she matured, so did her fanbase, allowing her music to evolve into more mature territories while maintaining its polish. Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears had their teen pop phases followed by their 'I'm a grown woman' periods, yet they managed to find some middle ground that facilitated their evolution. Jojo could have followed a similar path, but she chose not to. Her coming out and new haircut could have marked a new mature phase, and I recall her dressing more elegantly-meaning wearing pristine gowns and not looking like a Crayola factory explosion-but then she reverted to her previous style. The TV show she hosted made it apparent that the young participants were being molded into a replica of Jojo, complete with bows and glitter. Whether or not these accusations are true, such behavior wouldn't be surprising from someone who experienced similar, though slightly less severe, treatment in their youth. My heart goes out to XOMG girls, particularly the one struggling with a spinal condition. Learning about Leigha's experiences truly broke my heart. Regarding the upcoming episode, Nicki Minaj would be a fitting subject. I do wanna see an episode about Lizzo, because that was just a shock to her. Meghan Trainor would be an interesting one, as I've never understood the criticism towards her, despite her being "cringey" and oversharing shit; still, those are not really death sentences.
