The new (2019 and up) GLI shares all these same internal goodies with a slightly longer (more stable) wheelbase. So if you prefer a trunk to a hatchback you can get this same driving experience in a sedan variation. The VAQ system in conjunction with the DCC system makes these cars very fun and exciting to drive at any speed. With these systems these cars corner like no other.

No it doesnt, but muricans like their DSGs because they dont know how to shift (and as we all know, Type R only comes as manual). Also, golfs are everywhere, at least in Europe, I can spit through a window and hit at least 2 GTDs and 2 GTIs. Its like: I want a hot hatch, i dont know how to shift, I should get something that everyone drives because F*** being different, I should get a GTI. Ok so after all this rant, GTIs are not that bad, they are just not that fun comparing them to ST or Type R. If you are going from a normal car to a hot hatch, Golf can look great, but you should test drive the others just to see the difference. In my opinion, they are nothing special. They are like a second place forever. There is nothing amazing about them, but they arent boring either.

The Mazdspeed3 has equal length driveshafts. They specifically extended a shaft from the passenger side of the differential to a carrier bearing to make the length of the two main shafts equal and tuned their torsional stiffness to reduce torque steer present from having a mechanical limited slip differential and the typical scrub radius issues of a FWD platform. With an electronic diff like VW and the Ford Focus ST, you will not get torque steer because the diff cannot apply equal torque to each tire and instead relies on the ABS system to control wheel spin and power bias with the brakes. Torque steer is your friend because it means your actual LSD, rather than electronic simulation of an LSD, is functioning.

The FWD Dodge intrepid (I know, not a very Lovable car but making a point) came with a transaxle setup that had equal length axles (due to the setup) that made it have absolutely no torque steer. I know the intrepid's engine bay is bigger and the V6 engine is turned (like a RWD) but they fixed the Torque Steer problem a long time ago. Plus this transaxle transmission is strong enough that it's used in some 500+hp V8 Dune buggies.

Actually the 8ms shift is fake, its just a rumour, the actual upshift time for the DSG and PDK trans are actually closer to 200ms, making the lamborghini gearbox (60ms) the actual fastest

My dad bought a Golf GTI when I was a teenager and I would borrow it every chance I got. I think it was the first time that I realize that not all cars drive the same, that some could be really fun, and that I wanted to know me about what made them so fun

The GTI is probably one of my favorite hatchbacks ever. It’s perfect in my eyes. My favorite thing about it though is how VW sells it. All 4 trim levels have the same engine. 230hp, whether it’s $25,000 or $33,000. Higher trims get more luxuries sure, but I don’t *need* a sunroof.

Coming from someone that has a MK7 with a sunroof, I’d honestly pay to have it removed. They’re nice when they work, but they almost always have leaks down the line
