The 85th edition of the Tata Steel Masters is a 14-player single round-robin taking place from 14-29 January in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen heads a field that includes Ding Liren, Fabiano Caruana and teenage stars Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Vincent Keymer and Praggnanandhaa.
The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. A tie for first place will be decided by two blitz (3+2) games. If still tied, the players keep playing single "sudden death" games where White gets 2.5 minutes and Black 3 minutes until one side wins. The monetary prizes will be shared evenly. I agree. This game was next level. I feel like Ding is like Caruana plus creativity and occasionally more daring. Caruana is a machine but Ding has some soecial sauce. However, Caruana has really upped his daringness the last couple years so I can't hold that against him anymore. Anyway, I love Ding's games and style to. It's what I strive for in my own.

It’s early into 2023 and Agad’s already asking the important question
This is a spectacular win with the black pieces by Ding. And it was achieved against Gukesh too, who was one of the stars of the Chess Olympiad and has been playing well.
Gukesh was completely crushed here, impressive performance by Ding.
Fantastic game and fantstic coverage. Thanks a lot!
Extremely high level chess is such pleasantry to watch. thanks Agad.
Gukesh's fianchetto bishop and trepidatious king vs Ding's monster bishops and fighting king. What a game!!
Thank you for the video!
That's really high level chess! Very good analysis.
The question is in the title and the answer is YES
Ding's light square bishop was so strong the entire game and was almost untouchable. The A4 move makes sense as it was the only way to deal with it.

@@neerajtatikola4797 I suspect Keres was a cheat in that he would roll over in tournaments to give advantage but Petrosian just played an equalizing style. Petrosian was an alchemist over the chess board, playing into an equal position in 2p moves isn't cheating its great defense.

You guys are talking about two different Petrosians. Tigran Vartanovich Petrosian was a world champion in 60s, he was one of the greatest defenders, and I don't know about any cheating incident with him. Tigran Levoni Petrosian is a current chess player (and yes, his parents named him after the former Champion), and he was cheating in some high-profile online tournament.

Gukesh did not capture Ding's bishop, at 14:25 for free. And would not have lost anything, his knight would still have been defended by his queen. So that was Gukesh's big mistake, as far as I saw in that moment.

Superb
8:42 I had a different idea of rook to e3 but as soon as you showed pawn to f5 we both said "brutal" at the same time lmao that was really funny
Ding sacrificed his rook for the bishop at the end. Gukesh should have sacrificed for that monstrous bishop on d4.

Great game!
the usual comprehensive analysis as per
I've been watching Agadmator about 3 years, and this is the strongest game by Ding that I can recall seeing him cover. I was rooting for Gukesh, but Ding won me over by outplaying him straight through the game. I would never have seen F7-F5 if I stared at the board for a million years. And those "bishops from hell"! They kept Gukesh on his heels all game long.

I can safely predict that, Ding Liren is becoming a clinical surgeon of chess. When I look at his clinical precisions of disecting opponents defences. Just Wow, Amazing, and a Pleasure to watch.
Ding for world champion!
Amazing, so open this game
Gukesh future world champion imo
Ding plays like a peak Topalov
I'm still curious whether he ever plays Xiangqi
If Ding becomes world champion, he'd be the truly chosen one. He played in the candidates because Serge "couldn't". He's going to play the world championship match because Magnus won't.
Sucks to be Gukesh (only at this precise moment in time, overall, its a great blessing, these games Gukesh, will prove to be some of your best companions, because within the psychological circus of "success and failure", is when we most often subsequently grow exponentially!!!

wizard chess by ding

@agadmator At 6:45 why not white knight forks queen, rook and bishop by Nc7 ? Just curious.
What a way to play by Ding.
Nasty stuff
I always knew the dragon would return to its lair
After Ding goes Qh6 at 7:26 into the video. Why is Bf3 the only good move? I want to play g4 right away instead and my next move will be Ng3 and leave our light squared bishop on g2. Seems like there must be something wrong with that line but it prevents what happened in the game. Supi vs. L'ami game from the challengers group yesterday seemed like a crazy game. #suggestion
This is the Ding I know, every moves with a threat
Another immortal by Ding
And now I am going to sleep because there is nothing more to be done.
Ding is the next world champion
It's two edged question. It also asked how strong is Arjun Erigasi???
Ding the goat
I know you like to pronounce names correctly, Agadmator -- you should note that Liren would not be "lier-en", but actually "lee-ren" would be much closer, with the space deliberately between 'lee' and 'ren'. 'Liren', as a word, is a romanization of two characters, Li and Ren. Also Mandarin has tones, so there would be a very specific way of saying the two syllables (well, all three actually, including 'Ding'), though I don't know what the correct pronunciation is offhand.

Ding for president of earth!
Sorry if this was asked already, but after Black's key move f5, what about White's other option gxf5?
Are we gonna see Magnus vs Ding in the Tata Steel again ?
Brief answer : EXTREMELY
I am a little worried about Gukesh to be honest, he looks a shadow of a player that we saw in chess Olympiad, his last 4 tournaments have been shocking and he skipped world blitz and rapid championship to prepare for this tournament, I hope he picks himself up, his body language seems to be a bit meek these days.
@namdevp0707
Жыл бұрын
He's so young! He might be quite nervous...we can't actually tell what is going through his mind!! He is a talented player he just needs some experience of such situations.
I'll say it once and I'll say it every damn time Ding Liren is Magnus's biggest rival. Sure Hikaru is great but Ding Liren is one of the best most precise players to ever exist OTB
#suggestion: Tata B group, L'Ami x Supi
I believe Ding (if he really focuses) can get to 2900 with ease. I mean just look at his moves against Gukesh, CRUSHING!
@monstermagnet3150

He has to be more consistent
If Ding wins the WCC, then would his rating be higher than Magnus? Would Ding be 2900? If so, then maybe that will inspire Magnus to come back and take the crown?
