Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy has had one hell of a timeline when it comes to lowering the power cell count from it's intended 77 cells, all the way down to 8. In this video, we'll be taking a look at how speedrunners got past the massive walls the game laid out in front of them.
Special thanks to everyone who helped make this video possible. BobbyKaze, onetabloid, Kuitar, Ruh and more.

It took years of constant research, analysis, and pin-point platforming on invisible obstacles to reach this level of progress. So what's the next logical discovery to make? How to yeet Jak into the fucking sun at mach 10 by getting too close to a bridge that's having a nervous breakdown!

I love how everyone is psyched on getting beaten. True sportsmen.
Way back in the day, when we first learned about the glitch in Kingdom Hearts 1 at the final boss Destiny Islands where you can infinite jump out of bounds, my sister and I had a bit of a gag that doing things like that 'angered the video game gods' - and we feared them. But seeing stuff like this today, it is clear: The Glitch Hunters are the true gods of video games, and whatever planar beings my sister and I believed in as children would *COWER* in their presence.

Speedrunning is psychologically a very insular community. This is why it can be so toxic when someone goes against the grain (see: Narcissa Wright for example), but also very wholesome and supportive with its own in-group. A new perspective, fresh and outside the box, is often needed. TL;DR: speedrunning communities are a bubble/circlejerk.

I truely love the way you format your videos. You could simply make your videos a short story with the end result explained. But I really appreciate and think it is super neat how you explain what the mission or goal is of the game skip, who has attempted it, how the communities react to the results, how you go into the history and accomplishments of the person who discover the skip, and I really enjoy how you add a suspense factor that just keeps me tuned in the whole time. Thanks for awesome videos man! :D

This is by far the most amazing video about Jak and Daxter that I ever saw. Even if I wasn't interested in the game at the time those skips were found I can still kinda imagine how the whole community felt after these discoveries. As someone that likes seeing glitches but is not good at finding/using any it always blows my mind seeing the sorts of things people find. Only times I ever got out of bounds in a game (like Battlefield 4, its easy in the story missions) were pointless things that didn't save any time or just got you stuck somewhere lol.

I remember trying to skip the first zoomer section on foot when I was little, I didn't get very far and also called it impossible lmao
This game is 19 years old. It’s amazing how much has been done.
So that "idle deload" glitch/exploit is one of the few times wasting time doing nothing is actually beneficial to a speedrun...never thought I'd see that.

Accessing reason locked content is the best part about using a VPN yet the limited security aspect is what is often advertised most of the time. Listen before communicating with your ISP you already have cookies, browser, and your search engine tracking you. Using a VPN does not make you invisible.

Imagine if this was Jak 2. "Lmao just Hover over it"
Finally, the man himself made a new one. You don't know how much I love these videos. Thank you Ricky
It’s really gratifying to me that these skips are actually possible because as a kid I threw Jak into the lava of fire canyon dozens of times trying to cheese my way with some sort of completely theoretical infinite damage boost, and for the skip to be exactly that is amazing to me. I correctly theorized an actual speedrun skip as an 8 year old. I also tried to find the other skips mentioned, though I was as unsuccessful as the majority of the community in those cases too.
@skrtreynolds
3 жыл бұрын
It’s crazy cause all the skips that speed runners discover are exactly what every single one of us want to find out. We all wanted to skip the power cell count and just haul ass through the Zoomer areas, and it just so happened to later in life there’s people that find out how to do the exact shit every kid who played this game wanted to do since their first playthrough.
@gulfgiggleanimations4472
3 жыл бұрын
@@skrtreynolds Good point. Makes me wonder what kind of skips people never really looked for. The only thing that comes to mind is when you discover the skip by sheer accident. Had that experience with Spyro Enter the Dragonfly as a kid, where I just went straight through the elemental breath gates that block off the sections of the hub world.

I love that the only difference between speedrunners and kids with wild ideas mucking around is the dedication. They all start with the same idea, but the speedrunners bend the game to their will to achieve it 😂
