How Social and Emotional Learning Can Bring a Better World | Aritha Wickramasinghe | TEDxColombo

Are you worried about the future? Aritha went on to explain that within the next 15 years, we could have a critical, better thinking, equal thinking society. In fact, he was working on creating it right now. Watch on to hear how emotional and cognitive intelligence could bring us true peace. Aritha is an international banking lawyer, the founding trustee of the UN Human Rights Office endorsed education initiative- Think Equal; a new subject being enrolled into schools across Sri Lanka that teaches children values and skills; and a founding director of iProbono’s Justice Programme; n online tech platform that connects people who need legal help but cannot afford it.
Having formerly been a lawyer at Clifford Chance and K&L Gates in London, he also works closely with the Government of Sri Lanka on education reform, and has advised the British Government during his time in London on on how to use British business to promote human rights abroad and was also instrumental in setting up the Trans Equality Inquiry at the British Parliament.
For his work, Aritha was ranked No.1 Future Leader by the Financial Times in their 2015 OUTstanding List alongside Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Lloyds CEO Inga Beale. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Here's one of TedxTalks I have watched in recent time. With SEL, we will no doubt have to worry about what the future holds.

Ah !!!! WHAT AN INITIATIVE !!!!! Think Equal is to me, one of the best ideas ever, implemented as well amazingly !!! As Ammi and Appachchi pledged after the talk, if you need 'foot soldiers' for the cause, count us in. Was an honor, and a privilege to see you talk about it...

What this does is replace the value structure taught to children by the family and replaces it with values deemed appropriate to the state. It sounds wonderful when it is presented in a sugar coated talk like you see here but in practice it's public school teachers and administrators practicing psychology in class without a license. The focus is on CRT style equity, diversity and inclusion. It's meant to promote a collectivist mindset and their focus is to push this on kids from an early age while they are the most impressionable
