How Range Rover Went From Off-Road Beast To Status SUV

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Sport utility vehicles are all but taking over the automotive market in the United States and the luxury segments are no exception. The Range Rover - which celebrated its 50-year anniversary in 2020 - is one of the originals. It continues to be a strong seller that commands a lot of respect.
Brands such as Porsche, Lamborghini and Aston Martin are all making sport utility vehicles - that means that the rarified air Range Rover occupies could soon see some new entries that chip away at its market share.

The thing is that the people who use them to off road and know how to work on them, actually like them a lot. When they're working, and you're not affraid to scratch them, they're incredibly capable vehicles

@@pink_mellow4846 umm windows and android clearly haven’t caught up yet Apple still leads the way in mobile soc’s by a wide margin. and by releasing the M1 MacBooks they’re rattling Intel’s stronghold in the pc industry. i think Apple’s case is similar to Range Rover because their products are incredibly capable and push the limits of innovation, but Apple has now become more of a status brand in the eyes of consumers as opposed to a tech firm

@@user-gr6cy8nx3z yes apple has become more of a "status brand" thats why people keep changing it not because their phones don't last but because they want to have the newest apple phone, android has caught up alot in the years example the google pixels are as good as apple phones but again it's about what you are looking at both of them give different things, even samsung oppo etc have become way more expensive than what they used to be even dell laptops have become huge competitors on macbooks but people still think that apple products is more of a status with all those "last one to stop eating wins a iphone 12". also apple and windows use different chips like i5-i7 chips run same as the m1 chips

I’m absolutely in love with the car...it is just amazing in almost every way. At nearly 70K miles...never been in the shop. Even if it does require repair...I could care less....It’s “worth it”..

I doubt the info that Tata Motors is nothing without the Rover brand, its India's second largest producer of consumer vehicle and first in commercial with exports quite big. Post taking up JLR Tata has brought in very good cars for India too which puts safety first (unlike other brands) eg: Altroz, HBX(to be launched soon), Tiago, Tigor, Harrier and iconic safari coming back in line up. Harrier uses the same build architecture of Land Rover but at a smaller ticket price.

its reality tata motors is nothing without JLR. JLR is biggest portion of their sales, tata motors is just very small in front of it. Just dont be illogical that its tata so it gonna be big. tata motors dont even have 10% market share in indian passenger market right, just bec they launching cars doesnt makes them the best sellers. they are still behind maruti, hyundai who controls more than 50 to 60 percent of the market.

However, reliable cars that don’t cost a lot to maintain don’t need to be leased because you pay a premium to drive the car with free service but never truly own it. With a BMW, it’s worth it because if something goes wrong, you’re screwed, but leasing a Volkswagen is just throwing money away.

I’m fully on the SUV wave. Bought a model y this month and I’m loving the extra space. I think a mid size suv is just so much more functional for the average person than a sedan. Range Rover will definitely have an uphill battle towards electric I’m sure, but how quickly they adapt will dictate whether or not they make it. Car companies without flushed out electric options will be suffering come 2025. I love having an electric car and everyone is going to want one in a few years, especially with the luxury of at home charging (pretty sure Range Rover owners will have garages!)

  • @euandykes

That's interesting because I believe that once the car market is flooded with second hand SUVs the prestige status will burnish. Every thing about owning them is more expensive down the higher cost of the tires. I reckon their resale value will make them have a higher depreciation rate. Lot of car park buildings struggle to accommodate them. Compact SUVs have the interior space of a hatchback and the parking space of large sedan. Yer you sit higher and so you feel more seen on the road. Wait until there's the latex crisis and people skimp on having tires replaced and the class of vehicle starts to make a star appearance in crash statistics. Suddenly cars with 16inch wheels look appealing again. Also could see these types of cars being targeted by opportunists and insurance companies hiking up the premiums. Maybe that's why only the rich can afford them.

Two things: first I don’t care who is making them Land Rover is an iconic British brand. Second: there have been a number of really good American SUV’s over the years. The problem is they can’t leave well enough alone. Change for the sake if change is idiotic. I owned and drove a 1994 Chevy Suburban 2500 6.5 litre turbo diesel 2 wheel drive with all leather interior. I drove the vehicle for 21 years and loved every minute of it. In all that time the only thing I did other than regular maintenance was to buy two new batteries for it at the 10 year point. That vehicle took me and my family absolutely everywhere we wanted it to go. It got surprisingly good mileage both highway and around town. It had loads of power for passing on the highway and for off-roading. It handled well on dirt roads including crossing streams and going through mud. I used it for camping, hunting and general exploring and without fail it did it all. This was all done with only 2 wheel drive. I credit its weight (heavy) with a powerful engine for such incredible performance. Of course the first time it needed new tires I skipped over the street tires it came with in favour of some very knobby all terrain tires. That choice in tires made it perform off-road even better than before and yet it still got good mileage on-road. It had more room inside than any vehicle I’ve seen then or now. And it had the absolutely most comfortable seats in any vehicle I’ve ever sat in. When my family from the U.K. came over to visit they referred to it as an “estate” car lol. As we toured all around the Pacific Northwest they behaved as if we were in a Rolls Royce or Bentley lol. When my dad died in his will were instructions that said if I didn’t buy a brand new truck for myself then I wouldn’t get the rest of my inheritance lol He new I would probably drive that vehicle for another 21 years lol So I did what was required and bought the new truck, but I kept that suburban in the family lol. I gave it to my son who is now raising his family with that vehicle lol. He and his wife love that thing! lol. It had just over 200,000 miles on it in 2015 when I gave it to my son. Now almost 7 years later it has over 300,000 miles on it and the only thing done to it besides regular maintenance was to replace the batteries again lol. That’s what I mean about change for the sake of change in that they had the perfect vehicle but changed it anyways. It’s a darn shame too. At least I get to see it every time I go to my sons house or he comes to mine lol. And amazingly even the paint (champagne colour) has lasted all this time. That Suburban is now 28 years old and still going strong. You gotta love a well built diesel engine. Cheers

I recently bought an '08 Sport. It came with a meticulously documented maintenance history recording thousands and thousands spent in repairs and servicing. Some of the bills... Oh, lord. Scary. But I bought it anyway figuring that at least the former owner had been willing to spend the money. I get warning lights that come and go, a screen that disappears and reappears, wildly varying fuel consumption (quite acceptable on the motorway - 'disappointing' around town). But I really like it. I like the high seating position. I like that it looks a bit timeless. It's very comfortable / plush but also utilitarian. And all for under £6,000. I'm bitten by the bug and am now eyeing the 405 series. That or I'll wince when road tax comes around and move on to something else.
