This has been an uncomfortable, frightening experience for me. I have had two treatments and I'm beginning to feel like I'm not going to be able to continue. The injections take me out of my normal routine for two to three days and I usually have eye discomfort for up to a week, and these treatments are every six weeks. My first treatment, the doctor hit a blood vessel and my eye looked like I was a victim of spousal abuse. The second treatment, I had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic ointent they put in my eye, post procedure. When I called the office about it, the nurse said I was probably having seasonal allergies. I am highly allergic to Neosporin and stated that on my admittance forms. When I asked about the ingredients of the ointment they used, they wouldn't tell me. Also, I have never been counseled on the side affects of Lucentis but they do make me sign a waiver before each treatment. Edit: May 4, 2022: I had a third injection today. More redness than the second time, but not as painful in the post procedure hours. I asked the technician to do some extra rinsing with saline to remove the beta dine solution and the extra rinse seems to have eliminated the burning sensation that I had both previous times. I also requested a non Neosporin antibiotic ointment. I have noticed an odd thing. Even though it's my left eye getting treated, my right eye gets irritated too. It gets nearly as bloodshot as the treated eye and; right now; both eyes have little swollen rings under them. I'd like the experts to explain that one to me; some kind of parasympathetic nerve induction? For a brief time; in the afternoon; I had a black floater in the left eye. I hope that doesn't become a problem.Edit: I had my fourth injection on June 15, 2022. The doctor fumbled the device that holds the eye open, and injured my eye. Due to the numbing drops, I didn't feel anything. A few hours later, the numbing effects wear off, and I'm having pain so bad I can hardly stand it, and the tears are pouring out. The only thing I can do is lie down in a dark room and hold a warm, moist cloth over the eye. I am so discouraged.

*Your situation is concerning. I am not a doctor. Nevertheless, it is reasonable to suggest that you get a referral from your GP to continue your next eye injection with another vitreoretinal surgeon. Betadine 5% is known to cause eye irritation (akin to having soap in the eye). Aqueous Chlorhexdine 0.1% is found to be a better alternative. Both are antiseptics. The use of antibiotics is controversial and optional. Irrigation (rinsing or flushing) can irritate the eye depending on the type and amount used as well as the sensitivity of the patient. Have a frank discussion with your treating doctor. Please keep us informed.*

Your experience sounds terrible, but all we have to go through, it beats loosing our sight. Thanks for your long explanation of uour procedure.. I wish the best for you from now on.

What exactly do you inject? An antioxidant? Sounds like you’re relieving symptoms, not addressing the root cause, the underlying pathophysiology. How do you get rid of toxins such as drusen and lipofuscin? I’m so keen to find out how I can reverse my dry AMD
