    Hey Ben! This is Kenny from Malaysia. Love the transparency. Your total payout is so much better than the locals like myself. I think it's because you have audience from your home country, USA that's still following your journey. Tier-1 countries like US and UK have higher CPM compared to South East Asia. And yes, language matters a lot too in determining how much is the payout. Malaysians in general we love seeing foreigners come and experience our culture and food. Welcome to Malaysia Ben, have a good stay and all the best in your journey.

  • @benfishermin

    @benfishermin

    Ай бұрын

    Hey Kenny, yea the first month was all from Thailand content so I had those USA, UK, Australia and EU viewers mostly. Since then it went down since I don't get many of those viewers now, but the views are really picking up so it's starting to make up for the difference in CPM. Thanks my friend

  • @benfishermin

    @benfishermin

    Ай бұрын

    Yea the language is important for sure. The next biggest factor is definitely video length, those longer videos get way more watch time and so the CPM ends up being much more in my experience

  • @SaifuddinRehan

    @SaifuddinRehan

    Ай бұрын

    @@benfishermin technically it would be correlating to the number of ads that can be fit into one video, where longer video can have more ads in that video , hence each longer video can potentially get more revenue (provided that people continue watching throughout the length, which is why great youtubers are expert in audience retention hence watch time)

  • @benfishermin

    @benfishermin

    Ай бұрын

    @@SaifuddinRehan Yep, longer video = more ads = higher RPM, so I always shoot to make longer videos. A 60 minute video where people watch 15 minutes ends up being better than a 10 minute video even if people watch nearly the whole thing. Maybe the algorithm will push the 10min video more because of higher % retention but I find KZread values actual minutes watched nearly as much, since they can show more ads.

    @@ngatravelvlog Yea it makes a huge difference. As soon as I came to Malaysia and made a first impressions of Kuala Lumpur video, it got around 20k views which is way more than my Thailand videos. And immediately I had around 80% viewers from Malaysia, since they all speak english and can understand my content well. My videos in Thailand I get about 5%-10% Thai viewers only, because they just don't understand what I'm saying as well, so they either exit the video or they don't even click on it. That's why countries like Malaysia, Philippines, or India can be huge to grow the subscribers and views, since it's a huge population and english speaking, and those audiences love watching foreigners in their country, especially native-english speakers. But I never change my own home location in my account, it's always set to United States. So mostly it matters the location you're making the videos. Also in Bali I had much lower views in general and very low audience from Indonesia, since it's also not a huge speaking population.

    Thanks mate. It definitely seems the RPM is all over the place with my videos, some is $1 and some closer to $2. I do believe that KL videos versus more smaller town areas give a higher RPM, and Penang too gives a good RPM. I did a Malaysia vs USA quality of life video which is about $1.7 RPM, and when I put Thailand in the title for a comparison type video it also gets close to $2 RPM. At this point I'm happy just to get closer to $2 than $1, I do miss the RPM in Thailand which was more like $5-$9 because of so many US viewers and Aus/UK/EU. What are you earning per 1000 views for your stuff in Malaysia?

    I would NOT rely on KZread/Google - they constantly move the monetary goalposts further and further away from creators in their own direction + you need to be VERY CAREFUL what you say or you get shadowbanned or banned completely. Ultimately you need your own website BUT travel sites (the pics etc) will suck up alot of hosting bandwidth & that can get expensive... There is a global traveller who has a Substack - harder to monetize for travel stuff but he's also selling pics in addition to subscriptions...

    Telling you Ben you must watch some KZread videos comparing pixels to apples. Even the Apple people agree and these are the sales people. There are some situations where Apple takes better pictures and others. Pixel takes better pictures but overall you can trade in your phone twice as much and get way more for your money like that. One day I was watching you and you were worried about the water on the iPhone pixels. You can submerge them in the water. You do not have to worry about water and the pixel 9 is out and that blows the 13 away and even the 8 beat the 13. The pro Max some of the apps were better and there are more gadgets for 13s that I will give it.. You like me both need the action 4 DJI.. And is the translation any good on the pro Max?. Google does magic with translation and I can just point it as a sign and it will translate it.

  • @benfishermin

    @benfishermin

    Ай бұрын

    The thing is that I already have the iPhone. It’s carrier locked to the US so I just use it as a camera. The pixel has the exact same water resistance as the iPhone 13 Pro Max, they are rated the exact same in that regard, it’s called an IP68 rating which mean it can go underwater for up to 30 minutes up to 6 meters. But that doesn’t mean you should do that and it’s still possible to damage either phone, especially if the water has salt or dirt in it, although it will usually be just fine. I just can’t see realistically selling my iPhone to get a Pixel since I only use it for a camera, and my main phone for actual use is an Android. But I’m not a mega apple fan either, I just happen to have this phone already and I’m happy the camera + mic is quite good on it. The next upgrade like you said will be the DJI, either the osmo pocket or the action. The osmo pocket looks really solid too

    Nope the amount they pay is based on where the viewer is located and the niche you're in. They pay much higher for someone in the US for example because the advertisers pay way more, they show different ads to them. Since the salary and likelihood of them buying something is much higher, they can pay more for those viewers.

    What actually make the difference in per thousand pay? Is it your geographic or the viewers'? I think the language plays a big role in viewers number. Maybe english is not as widely use in thailand compared to malaysia, thats why you get more views and subscribers. It just depends which country the user is located in. It won't change based on where I am personally only the viewer. Yea in Thailand I have 5%-10% Thai viewership and in Malaysia 80%+ Malaysia viewers because of the language

    @@benfisherminso does that mean for example westerners from USA are more interested in videos about Thailand than Malaysia? My worth to you as a viewer is higher now I'm watching from Australia rather than when I was watching you from Thailand? It's very interesting. I have premium KZread so that's another factor but the where I'm watching from is very interesting. Does the number of subscribers add value to you or only the number of views per video?

  • @benfishermin

    @benfishermin

    Ай бұрын

    @@AuntyJack123 Yea Thailand got extremely popular now with westerners, both for trips and also moving there. Malaysia is still more of an underrated and lesser traveled place for us compared to Thailand. And since Thailand is way less english speaking, I just don't get much of a Thai audience there. Yea should be higher value now watching from Aus compared to Thailand for sure. If someone watches who has youtube premium we get some $ amount too, otherwise it's if someone actually clicks an ad, we don't get anything if someone just watches it through. Views actually matter much more than subscribers in the end. More subscribers can mean more views of course but not always, so sometimes it's more of a vanity metric, but it does have value when it comes to sponsorships, since a lot of companies value subscriber count more than they really should. A lot of channels build a huge subscriber count with shorts which doesn't translate at all to more views on long-form content. Actually it can hurt views because those subscribers from shorts don't end up watching the long-form videos, so youtube takes it as people not being interested and then shows to less people. So you end up seeing people with 50k+ subscribers getting less views than me for example since they built their subs with shorts

    Oops I should have made it more clear, you can film on the iPhone that won't matter but if the person donating used an Apple device while making the donation then Apple will get the cut. I use the iPhone 13 Pro Max for all of the filming for now, until I get a DJI camera is the plan. And yea I have an Android phone which I carry as well and use for hotspot to my US carrier locked iPhone. I shoot in 1080p so it could be even better with 4K, but the files are just too big and the editing lags too much on my laptop, so I just do 1080p. Yea the hotel in Penang is beautiful and way out of my actual budget lol, highly recommended though.
