How Much Is Your Invention Worth?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

(22) One of the most difficult parts of licensing your invention to others is determining the “right” price to charge for the use of your technology. Surprisingly, it is often not the price that creates the sticking point in negotiations, but rather the basis used to arrive at the price. This video teaches a simple pricing theory that inventors can use to get the discussion started when negotiating prices with manufacturers and other licensees.

    Been in the game for quite awhile. Another tip is when that light bulb goes on, you get an idea the first thing to do is try to knock it out. My first thought now is market size, a million dollar market is now trivial. Then figure out if it can even be manufactured at a reasonable cost and if it can support the needed markup to get anyone's attention. Then search for prior art, which is now quick and easy with the WWW. Ran into one guy who was out around 150K with no returns, never file a utility patent without a proven market, some lawyers will be glad to take your money, others will give you wise advice. And the only one's I know you can trust are Invent Right and Lambert & Lambert.

    Well explained with real world considerations of the manufacturer. My reply to the manufacturers objection regarding cannibalisation would be “how many sales are you going to lose if I deal with your competitor” 😊

    Thank you! A license agreement normally lasts the life of the IP being licensed although it could be for any length of time (there are some limited exceptions in various different States). Yes a license can be inherited. Good luck with your project!

  • @johnferrellesq.

    @johnferrellesq.

    Ай бұрын

    If you are taking on both roles, you should charge a profit to cover both the manufacture risk and the retail risk. One way to look at this is how much (what % of the retail price) would you need to pay a third party to handle each of these roles. You should price your product to pay yourself for these costs. Good luck with your product! -john

    @@johnferrellesq. If I hadn't engaged with an Attorney a few weeks back (we are in Pre Lit Investigation now) I would have called you re litigating my case. (My Patent/Product was infringed upon in late 2018 with Damages going back to Grant Date 2 years ago 700+days; Notabley, on Amazon). This video backed up what I did last week - looking at Profit margin to Royalties relationship and what part of the pie the parties doshould receive. I invented the IP and also created the mini Start UP and launched on Amazon, therefore, I'm entitled/looking for more than the Inventors single digit royalty. Your video on the Amazon Neutral Evaluation Programme made me laugh and cry! I didn't go for it two years ago because I wasn't thinking about licensing and what the Infringer had to lose (10k/week). Different mindest and knowledge on the situation now. Cheers John
